Samsung N150 10.1-Inch Netbook (Red) Review

Samsung N150 10.1-Inch Netbook (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
HI,
Back in May of 2009, i purchased my first Samsung Netbook, the N120. I purchased it because of the keyboard size and alleged battery life. I have been happy with it ever since. Battery life is as advertised.
I needed to get a netbook for my wife, and after much shopping, i decided that the Samsung N150 would be a good choice.
Same Keyboard size ratio, great battery life, and some updated features
1. Windows 7 starter edition
2. Pinetrail Processor
3. Same great battery life
Samsung has also made some good improvements with the mousepad. You can scroll, pinch & zoom, and rotate all with the mousepad.
The updated design is similar to the older n120, but nicer.
They moved the power button down to the front which is ok.
one of the USB ports stays powered on to charge your phone or device even during hibernation.
Keyboard is the same spacing and size, but now they are using chiclet style keys. Seems good. My wife may give me more updates on this later.
So far, so good!

Micro Connectors USB A Male to PS/2 Female Adapter Review

Micro Connectors USB A Male to PS/2 Female Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In reference to a previous review: OK, granted it's cheap, but it does *not* work. There is a working alternative, though: see later in this review.

My goal was to use an EluminX keyboard (a backlit unit available at a good price from Amazon) with my Playstation2, for use in chatting during Everquest Online Adventure sessions. Previously, I was using an old Gateway USB keyboard, and turning a desk lamp on when I wanted to say something-- not too handy!

For reasons that are shrouded in mystery, the company responsible for the EluminX chose a crusty old IBM-PC interface called PS/2. (And you can imagine the confusion when I asked sales clerks for a device to use a PS/2 keyboard on a PS2.) It's a Mini-DIN similar to the serial connector of an old Macintosh. No problem, though; all you need is a converter-- right?

But not this one.

When connected, the keyboard started glowing, showing that there was power to the device. But, I couldn't type a word. Trying it on a couple of USB-equipped Macs and a Windows computer, the results were the same-- light but no type. Plugging it into the Windows box's PS/2 port showed that the keyboard was, in fact, working.

Not counting those abortions that have dedicated sound volume knobs, or eMail, Web, and other keys, keyboards are as standard as AA batteries. If the Micro Connectors device doesn't translate that, how can it translate something more complex? Sure, I may have got a bum unit, but based on what most of the others here are saying I would consider this to be a waste of seven dollars.

But lo! there is hope! I bought a Radio Shack PS/2 to USB Adapter, part number 26-226. It cost about $13. It worked perfectly in all three places, and now I'm happily chatting while slaying monsters.

Buy the EluminX from Amazon, but buy your converter from Radio Shack.

iTech - i.OVAL 303 (Bluetooth Headset) Review

iTech - i.OVAL 303 (Bluetooth Headset)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very intrigued about this item doing as much different things as remote for movies, pad for games and keyboard for chat. I must say it took some time getting used to it - have to press the keys firmly but not too much or you'll repeat them, some keys on the top row sometimes don't work, when you launch a game, you have to first remove the sensor or your Sixaxis won't be detected - so if you don't have the courage of a few hors trying you could throw it away.
But as I liked the idea very much I persevered and now I love it! I see the mixed reviews so as it's an unknown Chinese company they may have had production problems (I must say the "y" and "o", bith in the top row, often have to be pressed 2 times to work) but some lucky people will have no problem.
As a DVD/Blu-ray remote :
It's really the strong point of it, all the needed keys are thre : play, pause fast forward, stop ... you can use triangle as on the Sixaxis to have the advanced menu to have the colored buttons for Blu-ray and other options. All the "remote" keys on top work flawlessly and easy to use.
As a keyboard :
I already told the problems I had the one I got, but I think other people could have problems with other keys or not at all. The keys are small but it has the size of a small TV remote so of course they're small! When you have spent about an hour using it, you'll know the good amount of strength to press the keys for good results. I can now send messages to PSN friends or in Home with ease (except as said earlier the "y" and to a lesser degree "o" keys.
As a controller :
I didn' play much games with it (Echochrome and pool in Home), but of course you won't use it to play Resistance or Devil may cry. For the Home mini games it's quite good, the right and left sticks seem a little too sensitive but as I said after a few minutes you'll do it right.
I really think the best "game" it will be used for is "Home", as it allows you to switch from game pad to keyboard with ease and have all the needed keys well mapped.
the good things :
- as the name implies, can be used as a Blu-ray remote, a game controller and a keyboard
- it looks classy shiny black like the PS3
- it's not too big
- after a few minutes of adjustment, you'll use it all the time
the bad things :
- some keys may work badly
- you have to spend some time adjusting the right strength to push the keyboard keys
- the slide to access the keyboard is not really comfortable
- when you want to play a PS3 game, you have to unplug the sensor first and then push the Playstation button of the Sixaxis
Closing comments :
For Home and viewing Blu-rays, it's really perfect. As a keyboard it can be awkward but you get used to it fast. I really enjoy it and use it everyday.

Bluetooth Mini Kb with Touch Pad Review

Bluetooth Mini Kb with Touch Pad
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The real advantage to this keyboard is its range, it works for 20-30 feet. The setup in XP with the IOgear GPU421 required the IOgear driver installation.
A Sony Z1WA laptop with built in bluetooth installation did not require any driver instalation.
Windows 7 beta 7000 64 bit installed without a hitch.
The only problem is that the mouse is a little slow and not as smooth as with the other wireless products mentioned below. I set the mouse speed very fast and turned off the "enhance pointer precision" option in Control Panel mouse settings and that helped some.
I have a microsoft wireless keyboard mouse combo and the Adesso WKB-4000, the range on the microsoft is very short, only a few feet. The Adesso is acceptable, maybe 10 feet, however sometimes it is shorter due to interference from other devices. Both have very smooth mouse movement compared to this Bluetooth keyboard (ASK-3962).

Works fine - I'm running 150 feet of Cat6e and it connects. BUT it is not USB 2.0 As it happens, I'm OK since what I'm using it for, the devices on the far end are USB 1.1 but I purchased for future proofing, but this was advertised as USB 2.0 when it isn't. Pretty poor. As a USB 1.1 device for $35 delivered over 150 ft - no problems and a deal - I'd still have bought it - just a con to say USB 2.0

Kensington 64354 Wireless Optical USB Desktop for Macintosh (Mac) Review

Kensington 64354 Wireless Optical USB Desktop for Macintosh (Mac)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At first glance you know you made the right choice in purchasing this keyboard/mouse combination.
It fits very well into the astethics of all Apple systems. The plug-n-play is great, and downloading the most up to date software is a breeze on the Kensington website. All hotkeys work flawlessly with Mac programs, opening/controlling iTunes and Safari/Mail, and you even have the option to program 3 keys to your liking.
The transmitter is also a battery charger and they give you 2 extra batteries so that you can switch them out with the mouse or keyboard when necessary, very nice option!
The only downside, use caution when removing the orange warning sticker off the keyboard, it leaves a residue behind.
I would recommend this product to anyone running an Apple system. Fits in well with my 12" PowerBook and 19" LCD monitor combination, and it allows the PB to sleep while running off the external montior, very cool to say the least.
As a side note, Kensington support is top notch as well. I have owned several of their products and if any of them have any problems they will replace it and allow you to keep the original, instead of requiring you to have "down-time" sending it back to them.
Also don't bother checking around, it ain't getting any cheaper then it is here! Great value, great product, great support, great looks.....what more do you need out of a purchase?!

I was so excited about this product, but it didn't do anything. My computer (Windows XP Home operating system) couldn't recognize the device. It was as if a driver was missing, but there wasn't any indication of how to get one. I poked arougd the Abrent website a bit and it wasn't helpful. Rather than mess around with product support, I decided to just return the thing. My Logitech mouse and old keyboard work fine with another adapter I have, and my computer didin't recognize this thing no matter what I had plugged in (including nothing), so the problem was with this splitter.

GYRATION GP1100-001 Wireless Rechargeable Rf Combo Review

GYRATION GP1100-001 Wireless Rechargeable Rf Combo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK. First of all I have to mention that the reason I bought this set is because of the mini size radio wireless keyboard.
I use it at bed and the light weight mini size keyboard is a lot easier to handle than a heavy full size keyboard, and I also like the tactile feel of the notebook type keyboard.
There is not a lot of other alternatives out there, given my requirement.
The logitech bluetooth set is 30% more expensive and requires a bluetooth stack to work, versus the gyration just works out of the box requiring no driver to be installed.
There are other taiwaness mini size keyboards but they either use outdated infrared technology or are more expensive than this set.
The gyrascope in the mouse works but is not exactly a pleasant experience to use.
It's rather cumbersome and you'd be frustrated soon except maybe using it to doubleclick-launch a program from your desktop or scroll a page or two on your browser. You'd rather use the mouse on a surface instead of in the air whenever you can.
The mouse movement is a lot faster than normal desktop mouse when using on a surface - I guess this is part of the engineering design which otherwise would make the gyrascope too painful to use in the air.
The mouse requires regular charging, which is inconvenient. Typical wireless mouse like the microsoft one can last months, so I guess that the gyrascope uses quite a bit of power to operate.
The metal charging contacts on the mouse wears off quite fast and you have to make sure that the mouse sits perfectly in the charging cradle otherwise it won't charge properly.
Also, the scroll on the mouse behaves quite differently than MS or logitech mouse. It's a lot less sensitive and you need to scroll a couple more times in order to cover as much ground as the MS/logitech mouse does.
One last bad thing I have to say about the mouse - I originally bought a used set from ebay and the gyrascope just doesn't operate properly. It turns out that the seller had once drop it on the floor from several feet - so beware that it's quite fragile compare to your typical "low-tech" wireless mouse.
There's only one thing I want to complain about the keyboard - the layout. Like the ibm thinkpad, the Fn key and the Ctrl key are misplaced. If you use Copy & Paste (Ctrl-C Ctrl-P) a lot like most people do, it's frustrating that you'll press Fn-C Fn-P all the time - which does nothing.
What I do to remedy this problem is to download a freeware program to remap the keys. Note that the Fn key is special that it's only "visiable" to the keyboard, your operating system won't know it when you press it. In other words, you cannot remap the Fn key. What I did instead is to remap the Caplock key to behave like the Ctrl key. A lot of unix users are accustomed to that (older unix keyboard have the ctrl key resides in where the caplock key is), so I'm trying to get used to it. So far it's working out for me.
I'd never imagine that I would drop that much of $ for a set of wireless keyboard and mouse (most I have spent on a keyboard/mouse is $50 max) and I'd still rather not if there are other cheaper alternatives.
To be fair though, when it says it works from 30ft away, it actually does. I'm now typing 5 feet away from the receiver and the gyration set works wonderfully, while my MS wireless explorer mouse skips from time to time (but still bearable, as I prefer to use it on a surface instead of the gyration mouse, given all the shortcomings I mentioned above).
Hope this helps for all potential buyers.

Creative Desktop Wireless 9000 Pro - Keyboard - Wireless - Mouse - USB Review

Creative Desktop Wireless 9000 Pro - Keyboard - Wireless - Mouse - USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you do serious typing for a living like me, this is NOT the keyboard for you. For some bizarre reason the Creative people decided to put two "\" (forward slash) keys on this keyboard. I barely used the one to begin with. To make matters worse, this redundant key is located immediately to the left of the letter "Z", which is traditionally where the shift key should be and the shift key is now two keys away from "Z". I typed one document with this keyboard and I hit that "\" key just about every time I wanted to hit the shift key. To accommodate this extra key, they shrunk the left shift key to half it's usual size and my left pinkie had to do an uncomfortable stretch to hit this shift key in it's nonstandard location. The other "\" key, which is usually located either above the enter key or next to the backspace key is now placed between the enter key and the apostrophe key on the "home row". And again, I am hitting that "\" key with my right pinkie instead of the enter key, which again, is an extra distance/stretch of my pinkie away.
The mouse also has a design problem. It has a "back" button on the left side of the mouse and a "forward" button on the right side. These buttons are located midway between the front and back of the mouse and almost flush with the top of the mouse. So when I grab the mouse to move it around I found myself accidentally pressing the "forward" button a lot and had to hold the mouse in an uncomfortable/unnatural way in order to avoid hitting that button.
It is unfortunate that they chose to play fast and loose with the standard QWERTY lay out as the ability to charge the batteries without taking them out of the keyboard or mouse is a nice feature. If you are a hunt and peck typist, maybe you can live with the changes, but if you going for speed and type for a living, this keyboard will frustrate you immensely.
Also, a personal pet peeve which is common to most wireless keyboards: The "cap lock", "number lock" and "scroll lock" indicators are located on the receiver and not on the keyboard. Are we suppose to glance 5 or 10 feet way everytime we want to see these things?

I bought the iConcepts so-called 'universal' wireless keyboard for my new Dell Axim X51v. These PDAs retail for +$500 bucks.
I was able to get an older driver to install using the ActiveSync software on my PC, but the keyboard never worked. I checked internal battery and it was good. It's possible the keyboards are being shipped defective, or they just don't work at all. Probably you should not buy online these keyboards but better to take a chance and purchase locally and get a warranty for a return.
I am not convinced that these ext. keyboards will work for the Dell PDAs.

Innovera® Wireless Keyboard and Optical Mouse Combo, 6ft Range, USB, Black/Silver Review

Innovera® Wireless Keyboard and Optical Mouse Combo, 6ft Range, USB, Black/Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this wireless keyboard/mouse combo, because I wanted a better keyboard for my laptop, to use at home with my external monitor. The key layout is not the same as most keyboards, the | and \ keys are moved, and the Enter key is large and takes the place where the |\ key should be, causing me to hit Enter instead of \ when running Microsoft Windows. Plus the mouse is very low resolution, causing jitters even when the remote receiver is placed a suffient distance from the monitor & laptop. I took the batteries out of the mouse and don't use it, opting for my Logitech instead. The keyboard does not come with drivers, just crappy software. The driver doesn't load correctly when I plug it into my USB Hub any longer. It did for the first week or two, but then quit working. Uninstall/reinstall and all the other normal tricks didn't help. I finally discovered that it I plug it into another USB port directly, it will work, but I worry, "for how long will it work?" My recommendation is to buy a better brand, and make sure the keys feel solid under your fingers. If they won't let you try it; don't buy it!

My 62 year old father just took up World of Warcraft after seeing my brother and I play. While it has been a great source of amusement for us to watch him trying to play (and get killed, A LOT) he really stepped up his game after getting the Z-board. He now frequently spends 8+ hours playing, and actually enjoys it now that he's not struggling with the keys.

Logitech Cordless Desktop Keyboard, Mouse, and Stereo Speakers Review

Logitech Cordless Desktop Keyboard, Mouse, and Stereo Speakers
Average Reviews:

I got a wireless keyboard, mouse, and wired speaker set for $15! and its also made by logitech..a great brand (imho). It a refub, and the box was in rough shape, but the item works great. I had to change the batteries and the keyboard and in the mouse, but for $15 it was worth it. The speakers don't sound the best, but there ins't any static/crackly noise, so they're good enough.
Everything in this package works great and worked the first time I installed the product. Would recommend to anyone wanting an inexpensive wireless setup.

Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 3000 Laser (967553-0403) Review

Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 3000 Laser (967553-0403)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been looking for desktop set to use with my laptop. I was thinking of an ordinary corded keyboard/mouse, RF or Bluetooth set. But with the attractive price of this MX3000 set, this is so tempting.
Connection:
This is not a Bluetooth so RF receiver is surely bigger than thumb-drive size, yet stylish design with 3 LEDs indicating cap lock, num lock and F-keys enhancement feature. Size of the receiver is not a big matter, you won't tend to carry laptop and keyboard around the house all the time anyway. Range?? I found that key board works best up to 4 feet before it fades at 5 feet. Mouse seems to work very well up to 8 feet before curser jumps around. But with this little laptop, 2 feet is far enough to see the screen. If you are not hooking the laptop up with on-the-wall huge plasma screen, you won't need farther range anyway.
Keyboard:
Nice, quiet, very solid build, plus `through holes' which implies that you could spill some coffee in and it will drain down its back. So many buttons with useful default shortcuts like zoom, scroll, side scroll, messenger, full-feature media control and many more. Don't like it? Reassign the function or disable it. Media control also works with freeware like WinAmp too. This is cool. Secured connection encrypts your data, this give you worry-free. I never have problem of echoing characters or lose control of the keys so far. Sleep mode does NOT delay the keyboard at all.
Mouse:
Nice MX600! It uses invisible infrared instead of red light but with the invisible intensity, you shouldn't look into its image sensor anyway. Mouse has about 20secs sleep timeout. There is less than half a second lag before it is reactivated. 60% of the time that scroll wheel can't reactivate it after a sleep. I personally thing this mouse has less accuracy than MS510 as I also own it too. But I'm not into a game business so this is still in a high satisfaction level.
Other things:
Very easy installation and device setup, very nice user interface. I found some bugs though... Many times I use zoom feature on the keyboard with MS Excel, it gets the runtime error when I close Excel program. It doesn't show up during the use and it doesn't give you a hard time losing your unsaved data anyway (already updated to the latest software). This is why I give only 4 stars although I love it pretty much.
Overall:
I would give 5 stars to the keyboard, 4 stars to the mouse due to some lag and its accuracy. But I would rate the whole set at 4 stars because of the runtime error in Excel which shouldn't happen at all.

Yamaha EZ-250i Portatone Lighted Musical Keyboard Review

Yamaha EZ-250i Portatone Lighted Musical Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We got this keyboard just before Christmas 2003. Due to the pace of daily life, I haven't gotten too deeply into it. But since it has been several months and no one else has reviewed it, I'll start the ball rolling. The reason why I purchased THIS keyboard because it has a touch sensitive (velocity) and lighted keyboard. The only other model that fit this description was the Casio LK-55. I just thought the Yamaha sounded a bit better and was made a bit better. It is also more expensive. The sounds are quite good. There is an XG lite implementation as well as the standard General Midi soundset. The lighted keys make it easy to learn.
I have been too busy to hook it up to my computer yet to try out the downloading of General Midi sequences, but I am looking forward to it. The supplied USB cable is too short unless your keyboard is right up against your computer.
I was disappointed to find out that the only MIDI implementation is through a USB interface. There are no midi in and out jacks, so I couldn't hook this up directly to my other MIDI keyboard.
I'd love for Yamaha to come out with a version that had regular Midi jacks, pitch and mod wheels and an audio input (with reverb) for sing alongs. I'd pay double the price for those additions. For what you pay, I'd say you get your money's worth and then some.
UPDATE DECEMBER 2004
We've now had this keyboard about a year. Since my initial review, I've solved the computer problems that kept me from loading the software that came with the computer. (The problem was in my computer, and not in the Yamaha keyboard.)
I love the sound-filer software. This software allows you to load general midi files from the computer to the keyboard. The built-in flash memory on the keyboard will hold about 10 new songs, give or take. You can remove them and replace them at will with the songfiler software. Once loaded into the Ez-250i, the sequences play back just as the built-in songs do, lights and all, but with one exception, you can choose which instrument sounds are assigned to the left and right hand regions of the keyboard. This allows you to learn any of the orchestral parts of the song, and to see any of the parts assigned to the lighted area of the keyboard.
The software also allows you to use the EZ-250i as a midi slave instrument to play back sequences played by your computer's midi player or sequencer. This means the EZ-250i will play back any of the midi files you have stored on the computer without having those files actually loaded into the flash memory of the EZ-250i. In my experience, most songs sound better played by the Yamaha keyboard than the computer's Microsoft general midi instruments.
I'm not that thrilled with the Konami game that came with the computer. It seems like a Japanese home market game that doesn't translate well to American audiences. My kids aren't even that interested in it. I had no problems getting it going though.
Since my earlier review, I've explored the depths of the sound engine. There is a lot of synthesis horsepower under the surface. There is dynamic digital filtering on the voices, something you don't see on el-cheapo keyboards. In addition, the keyboard can split and layer voices, giving you up to four distinct sounds playable from the keyboard at any given time. The sound engine responds well over midi to pitch-bend and even portamento (gliding from note to note). It's a shame there's no pitch-bend wheel or portamento switch for live playing.
Since my earlier review, Casio has come out with a new lighted keyboard, the LK-90TV, that competes directly with the Yamaha EZ-250i. I haven't seen this personally, but it has some interesting features. It has a TV output to display Karaoke lyrics from sounds loaded by the user. It also accepts smartmedia cards for user-loaded sounds, though, as I understand it, this is a read-only slot. In other words, you can't load the card with sounds while hooked up to your keyboard. The card must be loaded from a reader attached to the computer. Though I haven't heard it live, it appears the sound-engine is the same as the LK-55, which, to my ears, sounded distinctly inferior to the Yamaha's.
In summary, a year after my purchase, I'm happy with my purchase, and I'd make the same choice today. I think Yamaha should add the lighted keyboard feature to its upmarket products, including keyboards with microphone inputs, pitch & mod wheels and sound editing features.

A great starter and advanced instrument, Yamaha's EZ-250i touch-sensitive keyboard features the Yamaha Educational Suite and lighted keys to help you learn, and quality sound topped by a stereo-sampled piano voice with dynamic filtering--technology previously reserved for much more expensive, professional keyboards. In addition, you'll find that playing piano is fast and easy with Yamaha's Portable Grand function. One dedicated button brings up a great sounding piano, stunningly rich and authentic in its sound and exceptionally responsive to your playing touch. The 32-note polyphonic EZ-250i comes equipped with 480 voices that include all the sounds of the orchestra, synthesizer patches, 10 drum kits, and 2 sound-effects kits. It is both General MIDI (GM) and XG Lite voices, making it compatible with pretty much every MIDI file available anywhere. The EZ-250i also has many state-of-the-art features to make connecting as quick and easy as possible. These features include a dedicated PC button, which takes a snapshot of your MIDI settings so you can instantly return to them at the press of a button, and a USB port for transferring song data to and from your computer. In addition, the USB port acts as a MIDI interface, freeing you from having to purchase other MIDI peripherals like cables and adapters.Once you're done practicing, challenge yourself to a multi-level game against the computer using Konami Keyboard Mania software (PC only). Post your scores online and see and how well others are doing. And without even knowing it, you'll still be learning to play music. The software challenges you to find notes on the keyboard before they disappear from the computer screen. There are different levels and different tasks, such as practicing your timing as the notes drop or finding the actual pitch of the notes. In addition, there are variations that stop and wait for you to find the notes before continuing. You can choose any tracks of the music that you like (even the drum track) and load in new General MIDI songs that you download online with your computer. And no matter what your level of playing, you'll appreciate being able to build combinations of your favorite sounds. Pressing the "split" button divides the keyboard into 2 parts, allowing you to have 2 different sounds on the keyboard at the same time, such as piano on the right and bass on the left. "Layer" mode allows you to combine 2 sounds across the keyboard range. For example, you could layer piano and strings and play both sounds at the same time. With 480 voices to choose from, the combinations are only limited by your imagination. The EZ-250i comes with 80 built-in songs. But if you've never played before, where do you start? The Yamaha Education Suite, a set of music training functions. Seven types of lessons are included, as well as a convenient chord dictionary. You get 3 keyboard lessons for each hand, timing mode (you can play the melody or chord by pressing any key using the correct timing), waiting mode (playback pauses until you find and play the correct chord or melody note; keys illuminate to guide you to the correct notes), minus-one mode (mute the left-hand, right-hand, or both parts of a song and play along nonstop). Lesson grading monitors your progress as you practice each lesson, and the chord dictionary shows you how to play chords by lighting the keys. The EZ-250i comes with 100 built-in styles--it's like having a built-in band. Call up your favorite style of music like rock, big band, or country, press a chord or play single-finger mode, and the 250i will follow you through a piece of music, providing all of the drums, bass, piano, guitar, horn, and string parts. What's in the Box Keyboard, music rest, song book, CD-ROM, USB cable, a user's manual, and warranty information. Batteries and PA-C3 power supply not included.
