Micro Connectors USB A Male to PS/2 Female Adapter Review

Micro Connectors USB A Male to PS/2 Female Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In reference to a previous review: OK, granted it's cheap, but it does *not* work. There is a working alternative, though: see later in this review.

My goal was to use an EluminX keyboard (a backlit unit available at a good price from Amazon) with my Playstation2, for use in chatting during Everquest Online Adventure sessions. Previously, I was using an old Gateway USB keyboard, and turning a desk lamp on when I wanted to say something-- not too handy!

For reasons that are shrouded in mystery, the company responsible for the EluminX chose a crusty old IBM-PC interface called PS/2. (And you can imagine the confusion when I asked sales clerks for a device to use a PS/2 keyboard on a PS2.) It's a Mini-DIN similar to the serial connector of an old Macintosh. No problem, though; all you need is a converter-- right?

But not this one.

When connected, the keyboard started glowing, showing that there was power to the device. But, I couldn't type a word. Trying it on a couple of USB-equipped Macs and a Windows computer, the results were the same-- light but no type. Plugging it into the Windows box's PS/2 port showed that the keyboard was, in fact, working.

Not counting those abortions that have dedicated sound volume knobs, or eMail, Web, and other keys, keyboards are as standard as AA batteries. If the Micro Connectors device doesn't translate that, how can it translate something more complex? Sure, I may have got a bum unit, but based on what most of the others here are saying I would consider this to be a waste of seven dollars.

But lo! there is hope! I bought a Radio Shack PS/2 to USB Adapter, part number 26-226. It cost about $13. It worked perfectly in all three places, and now I'm happily chatting while slaying monsters.

Buy the EluminX from Amazon, but buy your converter from Radio Shack.

Sabrent SBT-PS2U USB to Dual 2-Port PS/2 Splitter Cable Converter Review

Sabrent SBT-PS2U USB to Dual 2-Port PS/2 Splitter Cable Converter
Average Reviews:

I was so excited about this product, but it didn't do anything. My computer (Windows XP Home operating system) couldn't recognize the device. It was as if a driver was missing, but there wasn't any indication of how to get one. I poked arougd the Abrent website a bit and it wasn't helpful. Rather than mess around with product support, I decided to just return the thing. My Logitech mouse and old keyboard work fine with another adapter I have, and my computer didin't recognize this thing no matter what I had plugged in (including nothing), so the problem was with this splitter.

I had an old non-netwoked workhorse mono laser that had been my primary printer until I made my laptop and a netbook my primary workstations. This adapter let that parallel cable printer still work with my newer equipment. So glad I found this! Works like a charm, and at a great price!

PS/2 Female to USB Male Adapter Review

PS/2 Female to USB Male Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to use it with my old Dell PS/2 keyboard (which was a genuine PS/2 product) This adapter has nothing to do adapting a PS/2 device into a USB port. Apparently it only works on PS/2 devices that originally come with a PS/2 to USB adapter in the first place (and you need this in the case where you lost the original one). Item description MUST state this fact but it doesn't. What you probably need is a $10-$20 range "real" PS/2 to USB adapter which probably has a PS/2-USB transcoding circuit.

Belkin F5U119-E PS/2 to USB Adapter Review

Belkin F5U119-E PS/2 to USB Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Assuming you've got an available USB port on your PC, and are running a USB-compatible version of Windows (Win98SE or higher, or Windows 2000/XP), this product does exactly what you'd expect it to. Simple to use - just plug your PS/2-style mouse and/or keyboard into the unit, then plug the unit into an available USB jack on your PC, and Windows will autodetect the devices.
This is an excellent device to use if you want to attach two PS/2 style keyboard/mouse combos to the same PC - for example, if you've got both an adult and a child-size keyboard you want to run on the same PC, and both keyboards have PS/2 jacks.
Device also works great if you want to attach a PS/2 style keyboard or mouse to a laptop which has only USB ports.

Cables To Go - 27225 - 1ft USB to Dual PS/2 Keyboard Mouse Adapter Review

Cables To Go - 27225 - 1ft USB to Dual PS/2 Keyboard Mouse Adapter
Average Reviews:

first off, the product definitely works. i can plug my PS2 keyboards into the keyboard connector and type. no problemo. that's fine.
however, all of the keys that manufacturers have been adding to the top of the keyboards do NOT work with this adapter. windows (xp) definitely knows it's a keyboard with those buttons, and i can change what the buttons do in the driver setup, but from what i can tell, the signal can't get to the computer - it's not passed through the USB conversion process.
this was not mentioned anywhere on the cablestogo site before i ordered (i checked). i emailed them about it and they very quickly responded "nope, it doesn't work" (uh, gee, thanks - i knew that already).
so if you just want to type, it works great. if you need those keys, if you're addicted to those buttons up there, they will not work.

I purchased this product specifically to work with a KVM switch, based on other user reviews. Unfortunately, the adapter did not work with the switch, although it did work as a direct converter for keyboards and mice. For the low price, it's still worth hanging on to.

I've amassed quite a collection of mice and keyboards over the years and they all were in perfect condition. The only problem was that they could not be used on my new laptop because the plug-thingies(Geek squad, please forgive my lingo) were round insted of flat like the ports in most new PCs. Instead of buying yet another mouse and keyboard, I purchased this adapter thingy and now I just plug the old mouse/keyboard into the round ends and the flat end plugs directly into my laptop. Perfect solution for a non-tekkie type

I tried this on both a Dell Inspiron notebook as well as a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop. On both computers the mouse would work but the keyboard did not.
I ended up with the Kingwin UPS2C(I could not locate it on Amazon, had to go elsewhere) and it worked fine. That was is only $4.99 and works perfectly even with a KVM.

Cables Unlimted ADP5210 PS/2 Mice and Keyboards To USB Port Adapter Review

Cables Unlimted ADP5210 PS/2 Mice and Keyboards To USB Port Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The adaptor, advertised as "the perfect solution for connecting your input device to other ports on your computer," does not work with a regular PS/2 keyboard connnector and a USB port on a Dell laptop. A customer support person from TigerDirect, which sells them, explained that the stuff they sell is not supposed to work "with those proprietary machines like Dell or Compaq, only with the machines made from scratch." Of course, such nonsense could never be included in the product description. The agent's supervisor said the agent was "incorrect," promised to speak to him and his manager (the possible content of that discussion was not disclosed), and offered a return authorization number, with reimbursement that does not cover the initial shipping. As that shipping cost more than the adaptor ($7.04 vs. $4.99), there is no way to recover the loss.

StarTech USB to PS2 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter (USBPS2PC) Review

StarTech USB to PS2 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter (USBPS2PC)

I have an old Dell ergonomic (split) keyboard that I really like, that still works great, but has a PS2 plug. I have a new Dell Optiplex 300 that only has USB outlets - no PS2. This is the perfect solution - plug and play. It just works. I was a little concerned after reading some reviews for similar products, especially after reading the mixed reviews for Cables Unlimited ADP-5210, for example. After reading another review for another product, I found this, ordered it, and am very satisfied. Highly recommended. In fact, I'm typing out this review with the keyboard connected through the adapter right now!

Replacement PS/2 Keyboard to USB Adapter - M/F Review

Replacement PS/2 Keyboard to USB Adapter - M/F
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, folks, listen up. There are two kinds of USB - PS/2 adapters. There's this kind, which simply changes one plug for another. It doesn't do any signal processing at all - it's just a dumb plug changer. For most of you, this will not work, because in order to use a PS/2 keyboard with a USB plug in the back of your computer, your adapter needs to change the signal somewhat. That's why you see the more expensive adapters - about $12 to $15. Those have circuitry inside them that actually changes the PS/2 output of your keyboard into a signal that the USB input of your computer will recognize. I learned this the hard way, too.
