Iogear 4PORT USB 2.0/FIREWIRE CARDBUS ( GUF202 ) Review

Iogear 4PORT USB 2.0/FIREWIRE CARDBUS ( GUF202 )

This unit works perfectly in my Toshiba laptop. I was stuck with USB 1 and couldn't read, view, or write to my external USB2.0 harddrive where I store all my pictures and personal movie clips. This cardbus unit allows me to do exactly that without waiting an eternity for the clips to download to my harddrive. I can access and run them with any viewer like Windows Media Player.

GUF202 is a combination CardBus adapter that features both USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connections on the same card. It includes two USB 2.0 Type A receptacles and two IEEE 1394 Type A receptacles. All USB ports support both USB version 2.0 and 1.1 devices. The two external USB 2.0 Type A ports can be used for external USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices such as scanners, portable CD-ROMs, portable drives, etc. The two external IEEE 1394 receptacles can be used for IEEE 1394 devices such as digital camcorders, digital cameras, etc. USB 2.0 will move data at a rate of 480 Mbps (Megabits per second), and is fully backward compatible with the first generation of USB devices. With the increase in speed, USB 2.0 will offer enhanced functionality, allowing more devices to share the increased bandwidth. The new USB 2.0 ports will allow you to take full advantage of the USB 2.0 technology on your current USB 1.1 systems. Users can take advantage of the scalability that USB 2.0 products provide.

Bluetooth CLASS2 Mini Adapter Plug-n-play 10 Range Review

Bluetooth CLASS2 Mini Adapter Plug-n-play 10 Range
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this adapter after looking at the fantastic reviews. The adapter does not work effectively with Windows XP. After following the half-baked instructions in the manual, I downloaded the so called drivers for USB50BT for windows XP. Turns out the drivers was actually a software called 'Bluesoleil'. Automatically the software registered itself as an evaluation copy which means it switches off itself after 5-10 minutes till you restart the software again to listen to the music or buy the full version of the software. The adapter does seem to work fine with the software and I could listen to the music on my Motorola S9-HD from my PC without any interruption but then when I checked how much the software costs to buy, it shows around 20 EUR which is crap. I think the merchant should notify the customers about the purchase of the software if they buy this doongle.
I am returning the product.Bluetooth CLASS2 Mini Adapter Plug-n-play 10 Range

Kensington K33902US Bluetooth USB Micro Adapter Review

Kensington K33902US Bluetooth USB Micro Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The unit works well with any devices that I personally have paired it with ie. cell phones, headsets, stereo headsets, and another computer.
However, when the radio is on when you turn the computer on, there are 2 processes TOSOBEX.EX and SERVICES.EXE that will take up most if not all your CPU cycle. This slows down the computer very much. This happens even when there are no devices paired with the unit.
I have installed the unit on 2 other machines with the same results. So, somehow the Toshiba Stack that comes with this unit takes up CPU cycles when the bluetooth radio is turned on. This happens on my laptop and 2 desktops.
Once those services are on, there is no way to turn it off except to reboot the machine. However, PRIOR to rebooting the machine, TURN the bluetooth radio off first. That way when the computer is rebooted, those services will not be on.
The one workaround that I did was to RENAME the TOSOBEX.EXE file to something else like BAD_TOSOBEX.EXE_BAD. That way it won't get invoked when you turn the bluetooth radio on. That means that you WILL NOT have OBEX capability.
Kensington Techincal Support so far has been USELESS. But, I'm still trying to get to people there who actually know what they are talking about.
Also, on the cosmetic side, the unit has VERY SHARP corners. Be careful when you are handling your laptop (if you are using it on a laptop); I have been scratched multiple times by its corners.

Targus PAUH217U 4 Port Ultra Mini USB 2.0 Hub Review

Targus PAUH217U 4 Port Ultra Mini USB 2.0 Hub

This is a great product at a great price. I bought one of these for my laptop to add to the number of USB ports available. I liked it so much, I bought another for my desktop to simply make the ports more accessible. The supplied cord is plenty long to reach the desktop on the floor and then I simply Velcro'ed the Targus to my desk to make plugging and unplugging USB devices much more convenient. The Targus works right out of the box, no install required and it works on every computer I've tried -- no problems. I must confess, the blue LED's look pretty cool too!

Kensington Ci70 Wired Keyboard with USB Ports, Mini-USB Connector (K64396US) Review

Kensington Ci70 Wired Keyboard with USB Ports, Mini-USB Connector (K64396US)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a pretty fast typist but the one thing I kept hearing while I was typing at home was "Why are you typing so loudly?" Hey, it wasn't me, it was just the keyboard responding to my fingers flying over the keys. I've always, for the most part, used an Apple keyboard hooked up to my Macs. You know, the big, almost sounds like a typewriter, keyboards.
Now when I purchased and started to use my new MacBook in January, there were no longer any complaints of my banging the keyboard to death. Why, maybe because of the change in the keyboard style from the larger keys to the shorter, chicklet-like, keys on the MacBook. So when the chance came around to get a new Kensington Keyboard, with added USB ports, for my regular desktop Mac, I couldn't resist.
Kensington's new Ci70 keyboard (wired) provides the user with a smaller footprint than most of the other keyboards. The keyboard has been reduced in size by 35% and presents a lower and much more laptop-like keyboard for the user. The keyboard is very lightweight, comes only in black and typing is easy and enjoyable. One thing you have got to know from the start, Kensington decided that one model fits all, so the keyboard also has Window keys (or to a PC user, it has Mac keys) and it has also been tweaked to prevent any wasted space. If you take a look at the picture below, you'll get a good idea of what I'm talking about in regards to there not being an inch of wasted space.

Here's the other interesting point of Kensington's Ci70 keyboard... they've added USB ports to the keyboard. I know, even Apple has USB ports on their keyboards. But Kensington's keyboard, besides the two standard USB ports (one on top, one on the back) also has a mini-USB cable that hides on the top of the keyboard under a sliding cover that permits a digital camera user to hook up directly to the keyboard without having to go searching for their USB cable to hook up and download pictures. Kensington has put the cable right up on top for you to hook up, download, disconnect and then continue with whatever you were typing.
Under the same sliding cover, you will also find five control buttons that, from left to right, permit one to open up their CD/DVD drive, conduct a search of their Mac, open up the default email program, open up the default web browser, and finally, open up iTunes, or whatever your default music app is. Speaking of iTunes, Kensington also has five controls on the right side of the keyboard, right above the number pad, allowing you to start/pause your music app, move up and down your playlist and finally, raise or lower your volume. As you can see above, the keyboard presents a very low profile. There are two small feet on the back of the keyboard to raise up the board, but it will no be well off the desk. However, I found it very easy to get used to and it did not present a problem at all.
Using the keyboard is great, it produces very little key noise. (scissor-key mechanism) Once you get used to the compressed keyboard, you'll really enjoy it. The one thing that threw me for a loop was the fact that there is no Caps Lock indicator. I thought maybe I had a bad keyboard so I checked. It seems the caps lock function was intentionally left out in the keyboard's design of a 35% smaller footprint. Once you get by that, unless you're typing in a password and you've inadvertently now gone into Upper case and you can't access what you need, it's okay and not a big deal. Hooking up a camera to the mini-USB cable is fast and simple, just be aware it's only five inches long so it will be close to your keyboard or on the top portion. I encountered no problems with syncing my iPod to my Mac. All in all, a great little keyboard.
So to review:
Pro: Easy to use, Mac/PC compatible, low profile, reduced size, provides 2 USB ports and one mini-USB cable. Looks good. Keyboard size: L 16.0" x W 7.0" x H 0.25"-1"
Cons: The only problem that I had with the keyboard was the lack of a Caps Lock indicator. (You'll adjust to it)
Warranty: Kensington 5-Year Warranty and free technical support.
Highly recommended!
My Mac rating: 4 out of 5

I use this every day to connect my PS/2 keyboard and mouse to my laptop's USB. The only problem is that the first key that I hit after booting up always comes out as gobbledeegook. However, once the cache or whatever is cleared it works great the rest of the day.
