(More customer reviews)I bought the F1U400 as a KVM switch substitute, allowing me to use a USB mouse and USB keyboard between two computers (I can't use a KVM for my monitor, due to RF interference).
The switch *blinks*. When a USB component is plugged into it, the box indicates this by blinking an LED for that component.The blinking is very distracting, and the design of the LEDs (lots of curves) would make it difficult to cover them up. I've ended up hiding the switch behind my monitor.
The box has four buttons to swap USB components among hosts. Pressing a button once lights up the current host. You then need to press it again to start cycling through the list. The box waits for input for five seconds; only after those five seconds are complete does it reconnect the component. Any other button presses in that time cancel the change. This means that switching from one machine to another is far more laborious than with a normal KVM (particularly if you're switching a keyboard and a mouse separately).
Because I'm operating in a mixed Windows/Unix environment, I haven't installed the Windows switching software.
The F1U400 is probably a reasonable approach for components like printers, mass storage devices and scanners, which won't be moving from machine to machine with nearly the frequency of keyboards and mice. You'll have to hide the LEDs, though.

I wouldn't purchase this item again for the same reason I purchased it; The brights are extremely bright. It lights up a room. The whole unit is lit with a bright blue light in the middle that flashes. It would be nice if this center light could be dimmed or switched off.
The port lights are steady and I have no issue with them, only the center light.
Perhaps I may need to attach this item to the bottom of the desk.

Belkin F5U301 CableFree 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub with Dongle Review

(More customer reviews)A wireless USB hub is very appealing. The implementation of this one makes it useless.
The software only runs on Windows XP. There are no Vista drivers. The hub does not work until you've logged in and even then, it takes a few seconds. Since you have to have log in before the hub will work, your mouse and keyboard can't be plugged in to the wireless hub. This also means that USB audio devices that must be plugged in at boot will not work. I don't understand why Windows requires USB audio devices to be plugged in at boot, but that's Microsoft's fault, not Belkins.
It gets better. Yesterday, we rebooted the machine and my brother logged in with his account. The wireless hub didn't work at all because the software wasn't installed for him. Why would the installer even bother installing this software for only one user? No problem, we installed the software on his account. Reboot. Everything seemed to work. Fast user switch to my account and the software freaks out because the software running on his account is using the device. The USB devices attached to that hub go offline.
To Summarize:
- No Vista support
- Can't use it for keyboard/mouse
- No support for multiple user accounts
- Fast user switching messes it up
However tempted you may be, don't buy this product until they address these issues. This product is not ready for prime time. On the plus side, it seems like all of these problems are just related to software. If Belkin decides to, they could probably fix all of these problems in software.

This particular USB numeric keypad has comfortable low-profile keys that are perfect for those who frequently need to work with spreadsheets or financial applications, the "number cruncher" among us. Plus it doubles up as a handy 2-port USB hub. Note: as one reader pointed out, the USB ports on the keypad are of the 1.1 variety, and good for devices like a USB mouse, etc.

Resolved the issue with this wonderful NEC PCI hub. No difference in system performance even when moving large amounts of data between internal and external drives or even between external drives. There may be better NEC USB hubs available, but for the money I'm completely satisfied.

When she plugged it into her computer, it shorted out ALL the USBs and the mother board had to be replaced! The company (HDE) said that in order for them to "make it right," they needed 100% proof that it was this device that caused the problem. Thank goodness it was still under warranty. The computer company determined the problem, which they said was plugging this device into the USB port, and they sent us a new mother board. Seems like common sense to me... everything is ok, plug the device in, nothing works! hmm. wonder what the problem could be? Then after asking them for a refund, it was not sent. I called HDE 2 months later to find out what happened to my refund. They said all my information was lost. I finally got the refund. I would not buy this product or deal with this company again if THEY paid ME!

I liked it so much, I bought another for my desktop to simply make the ports more accessible. The supplied cord is plenty long to reach the desktop on the floor and then I simply Velcro'ed the Targus to my desk to make plugging and unplugging USB devices much more convenient. The Targus works right out of the box, no install required and it works on every computer I've tried -- no problems. I must confess, the blue LED's look pretty cool too!

(More customer reviews)This thing just works - plug it in wait for windows to find the software, click accept a couple of times and before you know it - it's up and running. Don't even bother using the disk that comes with it.
I'm using mine to allow my XP Desktop and Windows 7 Laptop to share a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers - worked straight out of the box.
It's an attractive, functional addition to your desktop, very flexible and easy to use. The heavy base plate makes it very stable, despite the weight of the cables.
Shipping was a little slow (9 days) with Super Saver, but well worth the wait.

Kensington sd100s Notebook Docking Station with Stand K60721US Review

(More customer reviews)First off, I recently purchased a Dell M1530 laptop with Vista 32bit Ultimate. Unfortunately the computer does not come with a standard docking station, which I would have preferred as you can sit it down and be done. With the M1530 about 1" stick out on either side of the station but it works and looks fine. I also have the 9 cell battery which sticks out a bit in the back of the laptop and it still just fits without pressing any of the keys in the front which was another concern of mine, for normal laptops up to 1.5" thick or maybe even 2" you should be ok its just harder to slide the laptop in and out. But I'm convinced with some practice it will be no problem, I did knock off a key the first time when I was not being cautious but luckily it popped right back on.
I was looking for the next best thing, I didn't want to use an external monitor as that would add to clutter. Despite reading the other reviews citing issues with drivers I went ahead and purchased. Once it arrived I inserted the Windows Vista CD it came with and then plugged in the USB cord. It installed the driver (I believe only took the Ethernet driver off the CD) and internet/USB devices were working. Didn't notice any speed slowdown with the internet and I tested speed before/after the docking station. I nervously plugged in my speakers to the docking station but they also worked perfectly. NOTE: By default in Vista your laptop will use the new "USB Speakers" if they are connected, but you can change this simply by right clicking the speaker icon on bottom right of your taskbar, clicking playback devices, and setting your laptop speakers as default and then restarting the media program you are using.
So now I arrive home, put my laptop in the stand (this is the awkward part - for side-entry the best way is to slide it in without going deeper than the mousepad, then once its centered lower it until it hits the bottom - for top-entry its much more simple as you can just lower it from the top but my desk has a roof) and connect power/USB and I'm done. Though it is a bit odd looking its highly functional and kinda cool. The note holding is also very handy and my IR remote works nicely through the plastic at the bottom.

(More customer reviews)The Kensington 7 Port USB 2.0 Dome Hub is a superb piece of user-centred design.
For years I've used USB ports that technically did their job, but failed in other areas. Take the most recent that I've been using - made by GE, it suffers from design flaws that are truly infuriating. First, there is not enough space between the USB port sockets, so that USB leads that have fat plugs cannot be plugged in next to each other. Secondly, the unit is so light (despite being a seven-port hub) that it slides around my desk whenever I move one of the leads that are plugged into it. It might work technically as a hub, but as a piece of useful technology it's hopeless. It has quite clearly never actually been tested by a real end-user in a working environment.
The Kensington 7 Port USB 2.0 Dome Hub, on the other hand, is superbly designed. Its rounded shape means that the USB lead plugs are adequately separated and all the ports can accommodate a lead with a fat plug. One of the ports is conveniently located right at the top of the dome, perfect positioning for items that are frequently plugged and unplugged, such as pen drives. And, the unit is heavily weighted, and never slides around my desk. And, it looks superb as well. Highly recommended.

IBM Kbd with Integrated Point Device 3M Cable Black USB Rohs Review

(More customer reviews)My unit matches the image in product page, with minute differences in labels: instead of "ThinkPad", it says "IBM". But it is exactly the same layout and dimensions as pictured.
The key pitch is 100%, not "mini". Still, the lack of numeric pad saves a lot of desk space. The keys require a uniform effort, nothing is sticking. Both pointers work fine, althogh apparently the touchpad has no scroll function.
The keyboard includes a 2-port UBS hub (not seen in picture, ports are in the back under the volume buttons). You can stick USB storage or other peripherals into them.
