HP Mini 210-1030NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 9.75 Hours of Battery Life Review

HP Mini 210-1030NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 9.75 Hours of Battery Life
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this netbook because of the small size, excellent price, long battery life, and great customer service that HP is known for.
As far as the computer goes...
The computer itself is very light weight and easy to tote around. Not too heavy in a purse or bag and the size it great for concealing what you're carrying, say on a city bus or train.
I'm not a big Winblows fan so I changed the OS to Linux Mint 8 and that gave me back around 8 or 10GB of space that the old OS was eating up. There is plenty of room on the hard drive for a mid-sized music collection, lots of files, and plenty of pictures with room to spare.
The keyboard is great, but lacks a home key, page up, and page down. The touch pad gives you the ability to double click or single click by touch and there is a button on the keyboard for a right-click action.
The AC adapter is plenty long for most tasks and the battery life is excellent.
The webcam is fairly low quality but for basic things, such as using Skype or other conferencing methods, it will do the job. Speakers and mic are great and produce good quality sound for a netbook.
Customer Service...
After having the 210-1030nr for only two weeks, my hard drive went bad. No drops, no spills, no crazy room mates, just went bad. I called HP customer service and they were excellent! They're sending me the shipping materials to send the computer back and are footing the repair bill for me. Great customer service, just like I expected.
The 210-1030nr would have earned that fifth star had the hard drive not gone bad on me. I know, however, that this is a rare occasion for a netbook and sometimes things are not made properly or other issues occur that are beyond my, or any one else's, control.
This HP has performed very well up until the hiccup with the hard drive. My boyfriend was very impressed with the machine, despite his initial aversion to it's small size; he was worried it would be fragile or flimsy. He will be purchasing one for himself very soon.

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 15.4-inch Laptop (Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) Review

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 15.4-inch Laptop (Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium)

First, if you're looking for a laptop with all the bells and whistles, this version of Toshiba's Satellite isn't it. Still, it's a great unit. The screen is amazing. Crystal clear and sharp. Not overly glossy to the point where you can see who's standing behind you. Movies look amazing on it.
You can get by with the 1 gig of ram it comes with, but be prepared for it to be a little sluggish. Still perfectly usable, but if you really want to take advantage of the nature of dual core (i.e. multi-tasking) then you'll want 2 gig. I put 2GB of Kingston, (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 667 (PC2 5300), in the system and it has run flawless.
Very nice touch-pad on this unit and the left-right buttons under the touch pad are just right - not too mushy to cause an accidental click and not to stiff that they are annoying. Keyboard is laid out nicely with the "delete" key in the top right corner. Just the way I like it. Movies played perfectly and I was able to burn CD's right out of the box. Vista has a very cool drag and drop CD burning utility built into the OS. Sound system very nice, though speakers not adequate for movies - too quiet. But the simulated Dolby Surround for headphones works very well.
Other nice features that other laptops fail to include is a latching mechanism when you close the "lid" and a switch that let's you instantly turn off WiFi. This works very well by the way and stretches battery power when you don't need to be "connected."
The quibbles. If you are going to use this laptop for typing your next novel, you might want to try out the keyboard in your local PC store to make sure you are comfortable typing on it for extended periods. It's a little on the stiff side compared to some others. Another minor grip is no TV out. It does have a VGA out, but if you want to throw the image onto a TV you'll need a converter - a simple VGA to S-Video cable for example won't cut it. Also, it only has 2 USB ports. If you plan to use it as your desktop unit as well, you might need a USB hub.
These gripes are minor in my opinion because I don't really NEED them, but to me, it was worth the sacrifice to get this unit at so low a price point.
I'm very happy with the system. Nice to have a Toshiba. Great brand. Everything worked, right out of the box. This one is replacing a Toshiba that I've had for years without issue.

Stylishly accented with an onyx blue metallic LCD cover, the Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 notebook PC is a great blend of multitasking productivity, multimedia prowess, and efficiently powered portability. It features a large, bright 15.4-inch XGA-resolution LCD (1280 x 800)--perfect for viewing multiple application screens or watching widescreen movies on DVD. It's also great for using as a media center, with Toshiba's unique Express Media Player enabling you to bypass the system and access CDs and DVDs with a touch of button. The dual-layer/multi-format DVD drive also burns CDs.
This notebook is powered by the 1.5 GHz Intel Pentium T2330 dual-core processor, which provides an optimized, multithreaded architecture for improved gaming and multitasking performance, as well as excellent battery management. It also includes a 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB of RAM (2 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g), Intel GMA X3100 video card with up to 251 MB of shared video RAM, webcam integrated onto the bezel for video conferencing, and two USB ports.
This PC comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.
The Basics
Processor: The 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium T2330 dual-core processor delivers additional computing resources and help expand the PC’s capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly. Each core shares 1 MB of L2 cache, and they have a 533 MHz front-side bus. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.

Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB DDR2) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It provides two DIMM slots and has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity. It also offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.

DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x DVD+R DL, 4x DVD-R DL, 8x for both single-layer DVD+R/-R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 5x DVD-RAM, and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.

Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 86-key keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad. It also offers CD/DVD media player and control buttons (play, stop, next, previous) as well as a volume control dial.
Screen, Video & Audio This notebook has a 15.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (native 720p for high-definition viewing). It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 251 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3-D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3-DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion This notebook has an integrated Realtek 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (though no PCMCIA card slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. Here's the full list of connection options:

1 ExpressCard 54/34 slot

Stereo headphones/speakers/line-out
Microphone/line-in
10/100 Fast Ethernet
56K modem (V.90)

Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Apple Mac - Black (910-000673) Review

Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse for Apple Mac - Black (910-000673)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After years of faithful reliance on Apple mice I finally became fed up with the continuing need to clean the scroll ball on my wireless Mighty Mouse just to keep it working properly. But choosing a replacement was no easy task. I read tons of mouse reviews and user comments only to conclude that there's no one perfect mouse. Even after I had narrowed my choice down to the Logitech MX Rev Cordless Laser mouse I kept running across just as many user comments slamming it as I did ones praising it.
Well, I went ahead an bought the MX Rev anyway and am very happy that I did. I got the MX Rev for Apple Mac from Amazon and it has made me regret that I stuck with the Mighty Mouse as long as I did. The MX Rev/Mac works beautifully for me. It took me a few days to decide exactly which configuration best suited my needs, but since then it's been smooth sailing all the way. It's by far the best mouse I've ever had in all my years of computing.

If you get this laptop at a reasonable price I would not deter you from buying it, otherwise choose another laptop. I am not against HP's cause I've experienced others that do not suffer from the same 'defects' as this.
1)Don't put this laptop on your lap, you will get 2nd or 3rd degree burns
2)Do not expect exceptional battery life (although the same can be said about half the pc's on the market today) but expect to be connected to the power cable for the most part
3)It may run slowly at times but to be fair be sure the cause of that is not user based
All in all it is not a bad machine but HP definitely needed to iron out these issues before releasing this product

Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer ( M03-00001 ) Review

Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer ( M03-00001 )
Average Reviews:

Think about the following before buying...
If you read all the nice reviews here about this mouse, you'll find that most of them have some sort of issue with the mouse:
- The battery life is short (recharging cradle would be nice).
- The mouse makes noise.
- Return from power-saving mode is sluggish.
To me the last item makes the mouse nearly unusable. Often, I'll be reading an article and try to scroll after a few seconds, but the mouse will not do anything for more than a second. Additionally, the mouse senses if you have your hand "in place" before powering up, so if you ever move the mouse with just a finger or two (sure, it's not often, but it happens), it will not work because it doesn't power up.
UPDATED INFO (2001/11/25):
I've been in contact with Microsoft support. The customer service representative was very thorough in trying to remedy the delay in powering up. However, the final answer I get is, "Upon further research I have in-fact found what you are experiencing is a feature of the Wireless Explorer. This is by design to extend the battery life."
One person's feature is another's bug.

Logitech MX Revolution - Mouse - laser - wireless - RF - USB wireless receiver - gloss black Review

Logitech MX Revolution - Mouse - laser - wireless - RF - USB wireless receiver - gloss black
Average Reviews:

I payed about $100 for this mouse ... 4 years ago. Now, after years of dropping it, transporting it, and abusing it, my mouse has finally given out. For the first 3 years, things were great. After that, I noticed the battery life had declined a fair bit; I would have to charge it every day or two, as opposed to the entire week I would get when the mouse was new. I had a few problems with the charger base not recognizing the mouse, but a little lubricant (saliva) was enough to fix the contact points. Then, and this was the last straw, the left-click no longer worked. It would often double click or refuse to click-and-drag when I wanted it too.
I'm now looking around for a new mouse - but I'm not getting this one again. Why? I'm just tired of wireless. In the end, I like being able to use my mouse whenever I want, without having to worry about battery life. When I sit down to do computer work, and I realize that I forgot to put my mouse on the charger last night, it makes me wish I had a wired connection so I could ignore this whole battery issue. Still, the mouse worked wonderfully for 3 years, and sputtered along for another 12 months afterwords. Anyone looking for a solid, wireless mouse would be very wise to consider this as a top contender.

Logitech V470 Bluetooth Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks - White Review

Logitech V470 Bluetooth Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted a mouse for my Macbook that did not require me to plug in a dongle. Therefore, a bluetooth mouse was my obvious choice. I heard about this mouse some months before it was available for purchase. It has bluetooth and laser. I am glad I waited for this mouse - it is great. It does what a mouse should without having to fuss with it or deal with all kinds of uneeded "features". Logitech once again came up with a winner.
It was recognized easily by my Macbook and worked perfectly without having to tweak anything. Contrary to what some reviewers say about laser mice, this mouse is not too sensitive. Scrolling is smooth and accurate. There is a slight delay when the computer starts for bluetooth to recognize the mouse, but this is negligible.
There is an on-off switch to conserve the battery -- very nice! Also, it is white to match my Macbook. I have had this mouse about a week and have not discovered any negatives. I love it.

Toshiba Satellite 1135-S155 Laptop (2.0-GHz Celeron, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) Review

I almost didn't buy this laptop because of several reviewers mentioning issues with a "heat spot" where the right wrist would be when typing. This particular model had everything I needed, and some more to boot, and I knew I wasn't going to do much typing as I mostly use it for electronic circuit analysis which is 90% mouse use. So I bought a ... Kensington external keypad in which to facilitate entering in different component values without having to hunt an peck on the keyboard and burning my wrist badly.
For me, it is a fabulous set-up. It works well.
Oh yeah, I was curious about that hot spot, so I left the thing on all day and checked it out for myself. Just for clarification for the benefit of others, the heat spot is about 1 degree (fahrenheit) warmer than the rest of the keyboard area. There is just enough difference in temperature that our sensitive nerves can detect it, but it definately is nothing to write home about. In fact, I was disappointed. Where I live it can get chilly sometimes and I was thinking of using it as a portable heater. But alas, it is not to be so. But still, that Kensington keypad is so convenient as it comes with 2 USB ports as well. Because I thought I was going to be getting burnt by the heat spot, I also bought a USB powered fan. Now that is unique! I plug it into the little keypad USB port and the fan is positioned on a flexible, positionable rod and provides enough air circulation to keep me comfortable but doesn't blow my paper around the office. I haven't had to use it to cool down my wrist yet, but maybe with time the hot spot will grow and grow...until it is like a furnace. Then I will resolve to buy a summer time laptop and keep this one til winter. But for now, it's a winner in my book.

Based upon a 2.0 GHz Intel Celeron processor, the Satellite 1135-S155 clearly sports less raw power than its pricier Pentium 4-equipped Satellite counterparts, but Toshiba has matched this CPU with a whopping 512 MB RAM (expandable to 1024 MB), a capable 32 MB Intel 852GM graphics chipset, and an ample 40 GB hard drive. Consequently, the system is quite satisfactory for most common business and personal applications apart from high-end games and 3-D animation packages.
Furthermore, Toshiba has incorporated an array of features normally reserved for mid- to high-end models. The unit's viewing screen, for example, is a comfortably large 15-inch XGA display capable of 1024 by 768 resolution. Its integrated optical drive combines DVD-ROM with CD-RW technology to allow you to backup your data, listen to and burn music CDs and watch the latest movies. The system's keyboard features 85 full-size keys, 12 function keys and a TouchPad pointing device with scroll capability. And if you need future expandability, the Satellite 1135-S155 features two memory slots (both of which may be occupied) and dual PC Card slots.
The long list of connectivity options includes an integrated 56K modem for low-speed e-communications, a 10/100 Ethernet LAN for high-speed Internet and network operations, an S-Video TV-out, a printer port, a microphone and headphone port, and, most impressively, a trio of ultra-fast USB 2.0 ports. The system does not include an IEEE 1394 FireWire connection or high-speed data transfer from external devices such as digital camcorders.
The Satellite 1135-S155 is unexpectedly portable at 13 by 11 by 1.7 inches and just 6.2 pounds. Under ideal conditions, battery life is estimated at three hours.

Zoom 4314 Bluetooth Thumbnail Size Class 1 USB Adapter - USB - 3Mbps - Bluetooth 2.1 Review

Zoom 4314 Bluetooth Thumbnail Size Class 1 USB Adapter - USB - 3Mbps - Bluetooth 2.1
Average Reviews:

I am thrilled with this adapter. It is the full retail version not some non-OEM knock-off that does not include any software or drivers (and trust me you need the drivers & software to get all the features working) like many other sellers are pushing for a few bucks. This is the real deal and includes a copy of Bluesoleil BT management software which is dialed in for this adapter.
This adapter works great with my Motorola S805 BT Stereo Headset. It works fine with Skype as well as streaming audio to the headset. One caveat is that you need to remember if your BT device is not a Class 1 device then your range will be less for VOIP or other audio input needs. I can LISTEN to audio for almost the full 100m with no walls in between. But transmitting back to the system stops after about 20'-30' indoors. I can live fine with that range. But just remember the limiting factor is always going to be the device with the shortest transmission range.
My only concern is losing the darned thing!! It is teeeeeny which is GREAT it stays out of the way on my laptop.
Amazingly quick to ship...had it almost "before the check cleared"...;) Works like a charm with my Motorola S805 BT Stereo Headset.

HP Mini 110-1125NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

HP Mini 110-1125NR 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Small and compact, fits perfectly in my book bag and weighs less than 3lbs. The battery life that I have experienced has been awesome, mine came with a 6-cell battery so I am looking at around 8 hours of battery life, but I haven't timed nor tested this. I read another comment that was posted regarding the size of the netbook with the 6-cell battery in place. I agree that the pictures do not illustrate this, however, we're talking an extra inch...maybe...in height on the backside. A plus to this extra inch is that the netbook now tilts forward which makes it easier for typing, kind of like the little "stilts" underneath a desktop keyboard. FYI, with the 6-cell battery in place it still fits in my caselogic 10.3in case/sleeve that I bought for it.

I have had my netbook for about a week now and I am really enjoying it. It gives me everything I need for school and now I don't have to move around a cumbersome laptop, not to mention the battery life is about 2.5 times longer than most laptops.
Perfect for taking notes in class, working through excel, viewing PowerPoint, and checking email. I plan on putting it in the kitchen when I am done with grad school so my wife and I can store recipes or anything else we may need. With the wireless hook up and the compact size for $350 this netbook is a great addition to your home network.
One thing to remember, most netbooks (if not all) do not have CD/DVD Drives, so loading software such as MS Office will require you to purchase an external Disc Drive, about $100, or you will have to borrow a friend's to load your software. The other option is downloading the desired software program off of the internet and loading the software that way.
*UPDATE* I've had my netbook for a few weeks now and it has proven to be one of the best electronic purchases I have ever made. The ability to type and organize my notes while in class is amazing, I will never go back to taking notes by hand. Also, the independent operating system that you can access without booting up the full windows 7 is phenomenal. It allows me to turn on my computer and be up in running in less than 8 seconds. I can access music, email, pictures, skype, chat, and the internet all from this quick boot-up feature. I simply can't say enough good about this netbook. Pure and simple - A Great Buy!

Logitech MX 610 Cordless Laser Mouse (931350-0403) Review

Logitech MX 610 Cordless Laser Mouse (931350-0403)
Average Reviews:

Ok, I've seen a lot of complaints about the Email and IM buttons on the MX 610. First, I don't see how these buttons should make it or break it for you anyway. If you're looking for a reliable mouse with lots of customization options, then you shouldn't even care about the Email and IM buttons. But, if you are concerned, as some seem to be, then simply download the latest driver, restart your computer and everything should work just fine...that's what I experience anyway. I own my own business and constantly receive email. Let me tell you, the flashing email indicator is a nuisance that I quickly shut off the option and recustomized the button to do something more productive.
I also want to correct another complaint. Someone mentioned you can't customize the Email and IM buttons - that's completely false. You can customize ALL 12-buttons - that's a FACT!
Ok, here's why I gave this mouse 5-stars. The ergonomics of the MX 610 should be the standard for all right-handed mice, it just feels natural in your hand. The weight with the AA batteries installed gives it a solid feel. 12-button customization makes my computer tasks so much faster and simpler. I do a lot of copy/pasting, minimizing/switching multiple windows, referencing key websites, and the MX 610 does it all! I use 2 easy to reach buttons for the copy/paste features, I use the middle wheel button to minimize my windows, I use the left/right motion of the center wheel for switching windows quickly, and even have a button that pulls up a customized window (that I created with the included software) that I can select programs and websites from! Anyone that gives the MX 610 a low score is simply not using this mouse for productive purposes, or simply doesn't understand how to customize it to fit your needs and style.
One last thing: I have a lot of wireless products nearby and this mouse hasn't hickuped yet. The wireless technology in the MX 610 is superior and I can see why Logitech focuses it's media attention on it.

Kensington PocketMouse Wireless Mini Travel Mouse ( 72214 ) Review

Kensington PocketMouse Wireless Mini Travel Mouse ( 72214 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good news is that this small, cordless mouse will definitely work out a lot better than the full-size, corded mouse I had been using with my Mac PowerBook. (Whenever possible, I prefer to use my PowerBook as a kind of pseudo-desktop computer by connecting an external keyboard and mouse.) The small size of both the mouse and the receiver will make them much easier to pack up and take along with the PowerBook when it's time to go away on vacation, and the absence of a cord is already making life a lot easier in my somewhat cramped work environment. And now that I've figured out all its quirks and gotten past all its roadblocks, this mouse is very easy to control.
The bad news is all those quirks and roadblocks.
Most of them, I can help you avoid, but there's one I can only warn you about and tell you to persevere. The first thing you gotta do is insert two AAA batteries into the mouse. The batteries are supplied -- and in my case at least, they were Energizers -- but the battery cover is very difficult to get off. All I can tell you is -- keep pressing down and forward, like the instructions say, and eventually you'll get it. You just might sweat off several pounds first.
The next issue could have been avoided if the instructions had simply told me what NOT to do. (I subsequently emailed Kensington and WAS told NOT to do it.) To connect the cordless mouse, you plug a tiny receiver into the USB port in lieu of a cord. But you MUST use a port on the computer itself. You CANNOT plug the receiver into a USB hub. If you try to, the receiver's pilot light will light up, but you won't be able to establish a link with the mouse.
(I'm not sure whether it would have worked if I'd plugged the receiver into the external keyboard that was connected directly to my PowerBook. The shape of the keyboard and the receiver made this connection physically impossible. In order to continue using the external keyboard without sacrificing the hub, I had to plug the hub into the port where the keyboard had been, then plug the keyboard into the hub. Fortunately, the keyboard DID work in conjunction with the hub.)
With the receiver properly connected, establishing the link involves simply pressing a button on the receiver, then pressing the "connect" button on the mouse. When you press the receiver button, the pilot light starts to blink. When you establish the link, the pilot light glows steadily, but flickers each time you move the mouse. The linking procedure is simple enough, except that the `connect" button is recessed into the bottom of the mouse, and thus needs a pen or some similar object to press it.
After doing all this, I still thought the mouse wasn't working properly, but to be fair, this issue WAS covered in the instructions. This optical mouse is picky about the surfaces you use it on. It turns out that the worst surface to use is a black, reflective one -- which exactly describes my computer table. After putting the mouse on a sheet of white paper, everything was fine. I have to say, though, that this was NOT an issue with the optical mouse I'd been using -- which is probably why I glossed over that part of the instructions.
Well, now I'm "cooking with gas," as my third-grade teacher used to say, but there are still two quirks I occasionally have to deal with. The first one concerns the ability to turn the mouse off to conserve the batteries, which you do by pressing the scroll wheel, then pressing the connect button while holding the scroll wheel down. The same procedure turns the mouse back on. Most of the time, this works fine, except for the need to use a pen as described earlier. But occasionally, when I turn the mouse back on, the link is broken. This problem is solved by repeating the procedure used to establish the connection initially.
The second quirk would be a problem if I didn't have a cat and a three-year-old daughter. But sometimes, one or the other of them pressed some unknown combination of keys that causes the PowerBook to refuse to respond to the mouse. This problem is solved by unplugging and reconnecting the receiver.
So if you can avoid most of the problems I ran into, you should be up and running with this mouse in no time.

Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse Review

Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Up until now, I've always used Microsoft mice (and wired ones, at that). I've been trying to replace my old Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer because it was generating spurious mouse-clicks. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a local, wired, version of that mouse. So, in desperation, I bought this Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse. I was very surprised that I liked it. It's about the same size and heft as my old Intellimouse, and I don't have to mess with a cord. Its tracking seems to be dead on. I've tested it on my old, black, somewhat fuzzy mouse pad, various parts of my desk, different types of paper, and my tummy. It's worked perfectly in all cases. The only things I can characterize as being negative are that 1) I had to remap the Back and Forward buttons to ALT+Left Arrow and ALT+Right Arrow so that those buttons would work properly in Mozilla Firefox (my browser), and 2) I wish the charging base got its power via the USB connection instead of from yet another power transformer.
After another reviewer mentioned it here, I did notice that the "scrolling focus" behaves differently in different applications. In my case, Internet browsing is probably where I'd see that the most. But, Mozilla Firefox behaves "properly." So, I'm ok. Since this behavior depends on the application, I'm guessing that it's a difference in how the applications are coded and not something to do with the mouse. Purely conjecture, though.
Again, surprisingly, I highly recommend this mouse.

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse Review

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a Logitech gaming-mouse user/lover for a long time. In fact, the last four mice I've used with my gaming rig have been the MX510 (Blue), MX518, G5 (1st version) and now the G9.
The G9 is the perfect combination of the old G5 (precision, accuracy and on-the-fly resolution adjustments) and the MX revolution (with that killer mouse wheel), stuffed into in a customizable, comfortable and easy to control form factor.
Pros:
-I really like the new weight style much better than the G5. The weight "tray" is hidden under the grip so there is no way it can just pop out like on the previous generation mouse. For me, a properly weighted mouse is key in FPS. Too light and you are all over the screen. Too heavy and you are too late.
-Not only can you change the weights, but you can also change the grips to suit your playing style and the color of the LED indicators. I prefer the Wide Load grip for my big hands and the blue LEDs to match my Microsoft Reclusa Gaming Keyboard (Black).
-As long as you are a "righty", it's very comfortable, even after some marathoning. Like all previous Logitech mice I've owned, ergonomics and comfort are never lost in the design.
-Another great addition is the ability to save up to 5 profiles to the mouse's internal memory. No drivers or software needed to load up your custom mouse settings. There is a switch on the bottom that lets you toggle through your profiles. Perfect for LAN parties when you might not be gaming on your own rig.
-Scrolling with the Micro Gear is a blast when not gaming. There is a switch under the mouse that lets you toggle between what I call the "click" mode (a must for weapon changing in FPS) and the "scroll" mode (a must for scrolling web pages and long documents).
-The gaming-feet surface is much improved. I use this mouse with a SteelSeries SteelPad QcK+ mouse pad and it is smooth as butter. I eventually plan on moving to a solid surface pad as I've heard they can improve accuracy with less friction.
-There are two thumb buttons on the left side. I know this was added to newer model G5 (my older version didn't have this) and it's a warm welcome. These are a must for forward/back functionality when you browse the web.
Cons:
-The Setpoint software is a little flaky. I chalk this up to being an early release. It took a couple reinstalls to finally get it to work correctly. Its possible previous software versions on my PC caused this issue. Everything works now.
-I can't use my wrist pad with this mouse. I know it sounds weird, but the back of the mouse isn't as long as the G5 and it slopes downward in a way that forces your wrist to touch your mouse pad. Because of this, it works best without an elevated wrist pad behind it. If you do try to elevate your wrist/forearm, it can be pretty uncomfortable. No biggie, I'll make due.
- $100 price. Ouch, but I've gotta have the latest and greatest.
So there you have it. I'll update this review as I put it through more testing.
Be sure to check out the customer photos section. I took some photos of the G9 side-by-side with my old G5. Enjoy!

Acer AZ5600-U1352 Touch Screen All-in-One PC (Silver) Review

Acer AZ5600-U1352 Touch Screen All-in-One PC (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am very pleased with this unit and really enjoy the 23" screen. The clarity is excellent; its speed is very good; it is super quiet and I have not run into any snags since installing it on February 2nd, 2010. The touch screen is sensitive and you need to beware of old habits of touching the screen to point out something to someone else or to even brush lint from it as you will activate its ability to move things around.
Also I find that when I open a screen if I try to move it to one side, it will often expand it to fit the full screen. So in trying to use it as a split screen, you have to stay away from the borders because they are sensitive and will react by supersizing the screen you are working on. Not a problem, just something for retraining your brain.
Coming from a Microsoft wave type keyboard I find this one cramped and I therefore hit the wrong keys constantly, but that is my personal problem due to my flying fingers and again I need to retrain my brain. I like the sleek looks of the keyboard and mouse and it is such a pleasure to not deal with all the wires. It is a very streamlined unit and I am still adjusting to its features which are many.
I had not heard of Acer but must say I am very happy with the quality and trouble-free set up right from the box. I do recommend this all-in-one unit because it has features the others do not that make it more versatile and expandable. Better than a comparably priced laptop for my money and the touch screen is so much fun!

Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse- Blue Review

Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse- Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is just great!
Everything worked as was promised. I do not know why other people are having complaints. I have Windows 2000 SP4.
Before installing the software, left-click, right-click, scroll-wheel, and internet back and next buttons worked.
I installed the software manually (just cancel the installer that comes when you insert the CD, or press and hold shift key when inserting the CD):
1. Installed Setpoint 2.22 (latest) (Logitech.com)
2. MediaLife software from the Logitech CD (\Programs\3-MediaLife\Setup.exe)
Did not install any other thing that was on the CD. It has a load of stuff that looked scary.
Everything worked fine. Media buttons all worked fine. Internet Back/Forward buttons still work (one review complaints that it did not after intalling the software).
One review complaint that "Mute" button is missing from the mouse. Well, "Pause" button does exist and works. Besides, volume buttons exist and work fine, you can just lower the volume!
Pros:
- Great shape and size.
- Functionality is unbeatable. Mediaplay functions are great.
- Controls several media players, I tested Winamp 5, MediaLife.
- USB receiver to be plugged behind the computer is small.
- Comes with all stuff you may need to use the mouse:
---- USB-to-PS/2 convertor plug
---- USB extension cable to be used if not enough signal.
- Installation instructions are trivial. So was the installation!
- Mouse looks great. Has lighted media keys which look great.
Cons:
- Boy, there is really none!
- One minor thing, all logitech drivers are somehow 50MB stuff. Webcam driver was also like that. So is the mouse driver. But nevertheless, the software did NOT slow the computer down.
- MediaLife software "looks" good and works fine. Bad thing is that you cannot specify your own music directories, it will only "search" your hard-disk for music. They don't understand that hard-disks are delicate!! Anyway, I'll just use my Winamp.
Other good features which not advertized clearly:
- It's optical. Word "optical" was not clearly mentioned.
- There is an on/off button to save batteries.
- Forward/Back buttons can be interchanged via software so that you can choose the setting that is easier on your thumb. I use only back and not forward!
I am impressed.
One complaint (not about this mouse). They do not sell cordless keyboard without a mouse, and do not sell mediaplay mouse with a cordless keyboard!

Macally RFMouse USB Wireless Optical Mouse Review

Macally RFMouse USB Wireless Optical Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As the owner of an iMac G5, I found a need to replace the keyboard and mouse that came with the machine - and this is the mouse I've finally settled on - and it's perfect.
In the past week I've tried out the Logitech Cordless Duo Mouse, the Kensington Wireless Optical Desktop mouse (both part of a keyboard/mouse package) as well as the optical Macally iceMouse, and I wasn't please with either of them - primarily from an ergonomic standpoint.
But after orienting myself to how I would work with my machine at home, I realized I didn't have a need for a wireless keyboard, but a wireless mouse would be a huge benefit. So I returned the iceMouse and purchased the RFMouse, and it's awesome!
Here is a quick run down:
[PROS]
1. Excellent ergonomic design - extremely comfortable to hold.
2. 3-buttons and a scroll wheel, which is all I need.
3. Wireless w/ rechargeable (4) batteries included.
4. Battery charger located in the receiver, which is a nice bonus.
5. Color coordinates with the iMac.
6. Very smooth scroll wheel, with great tactile response.
7. Power switch ON the mouse so you can reduce battery consumption - brilliant!
[CONS]
1. Scroll wheel seems to sit a little higher up toward the hand than the previous mice I've tested - definitely easy to get used to, it just means moving your finger up a little more to scroll and click.
2. That's it!
It's a great compliment to the Macally ICEKey Keyboard, which as a combination is a perfect replacement for the stock Apple products. Granted, everyone has their own preference when it comes to mice, but after testing out 3 mice that appear to be the leaders that cater to the Mac line of computers, the Macally RFMouse is stellar.
Enjoy!
P.S. To the reviewer who gave the product 1 star because it is right-hand biased - how is that review suppose to help anybody? the majority of mice on the market are for right-handed people - and it's been my experience that if a mouse is left-hand oriented, THAT is printed on the packaging - I think most people assume it to be right-handed.
