Plextor PX-TV402U-NA ConvertX PVR Personal Video Recorder for PC Review

I was nervous about getting any converter after reading reviews of quite a few of them here. I have never done any video conversion or editing before, and I had about 2 days to transfer an analog videotape and clean it up for a work project.
The Plextor installed and ran perfectly under XP with absolutely no problems. Since I had the unit, I also took the opportunity to convert about 15 VHS tapes I had to DVD :) with no problems on any of them, even older ones. Specifically, I had no video or audio sync problems with anything, commercial or non-commercial origin. If I could give a separate rating to hardware, I'd give it a 5 and give the included software a 3.
Intervideo's WinDVD comes with the product and is generally usable, but has installation issues, at least one persistant bug even with the current update, and a generally non-intuitive interface (YMMV). Please note that, contrary to common practice, the product serial number contains the letter "O" and alphas *must* be in upper case. I couldn't get font size changes on title screens to stick--they looked right on author playback, but reverted to the default (huge) size when the DVD was actually recorded. Otherwise, most basic stuff appears to be there if you click around, and the help isn't bad.
Completely met my needs. Thanks to prior reviewers for the info I needed to make my decision.

Sabrent SBT-CPS2 USB to Dual PS/2 Converter Cable Adapter Review

I've amassed quite a collection of mice and keyboards over the years and they all were in perfect condition. The only problem was that they could not be used on my new laptop because the plug-thingies(Geek squad, please forgive my lingo) were round insted of flat like the ports in most new PCs. Instead of buying yet another mouse and keyboard, I purchased this adapter thingy and now I just plug the old mouse/keyboard into the round ends and the flat end plugs directly into my laptop. Perfect solution for a non-tekkie type

TRENDnet USB to PS/2 Converter TU-PS2 (Blue) Review

I tried this on both a Dell Inspiron notebook as well as a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop. On both computers the mouse would work but the keyboard did not.
I ended up with the Kingwin UPS2C(I could not locate it on Amazon, had to go elsewhere) and it worked fine. That was is only $4.99 and works perfectly even with a KVM.

USB MIDI Input Output Cable Converter PC Notebook Review

USB MIDI Input Output Cable Converter PC Notebook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At first I was very hesitant about trusting a cable so inexpensive. But, being on a tight budget, and trying to build a make shift "woodshed" to study music in, I needed SOMETHING. It's going between my midi capable keyboard and my computer to use under CubaseLE4 with some VST instruments. Plugged in the cable connections as directed, tinkered with a few settings (read the tips at the end), and everything worked beautifully. Very inexpensive, and does exactly what I was looking for. Not much more I could expect than that.
Tips:
#1. If you're setting up your computer to use midi instruments, with a cable like this, uninstall any USB devices with audio capture on it (i.e. a webcam). When I first installed this cable, NOTHING would recognize my keyboard being attatched. It took me about 4 hours of trial and errors and some googling to find out that my Logitech webcam was preventing the cable from being recognized as an audio input. So, uninstall that stuff first, THEN try using the midi cable.
#2. Once again after hours of trial and error, and some googling, I found a catch with CubaseLE4. If you're using midi to make drum tracks, guitar tracks, etc. (Kore Player, EZDrummer, etc.), you have to add the channel as a VIRTUAL instrument, NOT a midi instrument. I don't know why they changed it in LE. But, I do know that it was a confusing lock out for me. Hopefully I saved someone a little frustration.

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboard Window Win Vista XP, Mac OS Review

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboard Window Win Vista XP, Mac OS

I bought a cheap yamaha keyboard about 6 years ago. It had the option of midi connection with computers, but at the time Yamaha wanted like half the price of the keyboard for the connecting cord! So I didn't get it. Now I was looking at this and the price is such a steal in comparison I thought I would try it. It worked! I have a piano program, and the cord connects to both my Vista computer and my XP computer without trouble -- just plug it in. Remember to plug the "In" into the "Out" and vise versa. It comes with instructions specially says to do that, and I messed up anyway. Silly me.
Good deal, I recommend it. But do remember that you need a piano program to make things happen, the same way you need a word processing program or something before you can type something on the computer with a normal typing keyboard. You can find freeware piano keyboard software such as Anvil Studio on the internet.
