But, given the low price, I suppose it was worth it. I got around 4 years of problem-free use out of it. Weird how it just died one day. I don't think I did anything wrong or out of the ordinary. I don't know what would have given way inside this simple little box.

Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface Review

Note that if you're running a newer Mac (I have a MacBook Pro) you have to download the latest driver from Yamaha. And another gotcha is that you have to completely uninstall the driver they give you in the box before the new one will work. It's annoying as all get out, but the instructions for how to do the uninstall are on the CD so it's not -too- bad.
Anyway, once the right driver was installed this cable worked perfectly. I can record myself in GarageBand now while playing my DD-55 drum kit.

This Yamaha UX16 USB-MIDI Interface features a MIDI IN Cable, MIDI OUT Cable. Many people that purchase keyboards would love to be able to save and edit their songs in the computer, the same way that they use Word Processors. Having a graphical display, whether you choose the Piano Roll view or Notation view, makes it very easy to fix any errors you may have made playing your song. Of course, composers like the fact that they can print their masterpieces. Once you are connected to your computer, you will need some kind of music software. There are many kinds of software available for handling music, from very inexpensive to thousands of dollars.

USB to MIDI cable Review

USB to MIDI cable

i really like this cable because it's heavier than any other MIDI to USB cable i've seen, including those in the $40-$50 range. all the others use really chintzy thin cable. this isn't super heavy but the insulation is thicker and looks like it would actually survive being stepped on, unlike the rest.
it uses the win32 plug and play MIDI driver, so it will work fine w/ 32 bit operating systems. it will NOT work w/ 64 bit operating systems.
great value for the money, couldn't be happier.

M-Audio USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface Review

M-Audio USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a good adapter for home use. Having been a roadie, I can pretty confidently say the Midisport Uno's build quality isn't roadworthy -- the attached MIDI cables are about as thin as the RCA cables that come with most home audio equipment, nowhere near as tough as patch cords for a stage rig. But the average home user, who's not plugging and unplugging in a hurry and stepping on the equipment and such, should have no worries. I have one, and it works fine.
A note about appearance: My Uno's body (the oval part, smaller than an average computer mouse) is a deep translucent blue, rather than the opaque color in the current photo here on Amazon. Also, the cables are all one color, black, though the IN and OUT plugs are clearly labeled in molded lettering. There are three green LEDs: one that lights up when the computer recognizes the adapter, one for MIDI in signals, and one for MIDI out -- handy for troubleshooting.
I bought the Uno to connect my Roland alphaJuno-2 to my PowerBook and play with GarageBand. I took it out of the packaging (a rare treat: a molded clamshell-type plastic package that isn't heat-sealed, so it doesn't have to be cut to shreds to open) and hooked it up, and nothing happened. I initially thought that Mac OS X would recognize it automatically, so it took me a few minutes to realize I needed to install the driver software. Although there are drivers on the included CD-ROM, I downloaded the latest version from the manufacturer's web site, installed, and the Uno instantly lit up and GarageBand informed me (because I already had the Roland powered up) that a MIDI device was now connected. It's worked flawlessly since.
Simple to use; no extra cables to attach -- I think this is the perfect USB MIDI adapter for GarageBand users or anyone else connecting one MIDI keyboard to a computer at home.

USB Uno 1X1 USB Midi Interface Review

Average Reviews:

If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 chances are it will NOT work. The company is still in the process of developing drivers that work and it is completely hit or miss (MOSTLY MISS!)
The Uno was developed for XP and works for that system.
Beware - check out the forum and judge for yourself.
According to the M-Audio website, my uno should just connect to my Vista 64 bit OS without ANY needed driver.
Needless to say it DID NOT WORK. Even trying 32 bit drivers did not work. Completely frustrating. NOT RECOMMENDED. UPDATE:
I ordered a generic "USB MIDI Cable Converter" PC for Windows Vista by HDE from Amazon at 1/10 the price! According to several reviewers it works for Vista 32 and 64 bit! It worked for me on a Vista 64 bit system out of the box without a problem. I am using Band in the Box 2004. Now why can't M-Audio do the same?

Received the product quickly, which was packaged in a plastic sealed bag shipped in a bubble-wrap envelope. The components seem sturdy enough - not particularly cheap, nor fancy. Read the directions in about two seconds (the type is MINISCULE), connected it, according to directions, to my Yamaha NP30 Portable Grand keyboard and my 2010 13" Macbook Air. Garageband immediately recognized an additional midi input. Selected a new track, and a grand piano voice, and bing, worked. No problems whatsoever. And I personally noticed zero latency. I also didn't notice any driver installation on my MBA. I want to stress there was no latency and no weird problems with updating drivers: it just worked right off the bat. I don't leave a lot of reviews, but perhaps this will help others who are skeptical of the price decide. The alternative, for me, was an obviously overpriced $40+ solution. Thanks!

I got this for my new iMac with an Intel processor and it is completely plug and play. I didn't have to download anything, my computer recognized what it was and identified it by name automatically. The only little thing is the cable marked MIDI IN goes to the keyboard's MIDI OUT and the cable marked MIDI OUT plugs into MIDI IN on the keyboard. Slightly confusing but it makes sense after you think about it.

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboard Review

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboard

Having read many of the reviews of this little midi interface I decided to buy one. I was a bit worried about the product working with my Windows 7 X64 because of conflicting reports about 64 bit systems. To cut to the point . . . I plugged it into an old Casio keyboard and into my laptop's USB and my computer found drivers that worked instantly with my midi music software.
Remember that the 'MIDI out' plug on the product mates with the 'MIDI in' on the Keyboard and the
'MIDI in' plug mates with the MIDI out socket on the Keyboard.
It makes sense that the output of one is the input to the other and vice versa.

USB MIDI Input Output Cable Converter PC Notebook Review

USB MIDI Input Output Cable Converter PC Notebook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At first I was very hesitant about trusting a cable so inexpensive. But, being on a tight budget, and trying to build a make shift "woodshed" to study music in, I needed SOMETHING. It's going between my midi capable keyboard and my computer to use under CubaseLE4 with some VST instruments. Plugged in the cable connections as directed, tinkered with a few settings (read the tips at the end), and everything worked beautifully. Very inexpensive, and does exactly what I was looking for. Not much more I could expect than that.
Tips:
#1. If you're setting up your computer to use midi instruments, with a cable like this, uninstall any USB devices with audio capture on it (i.e. a webcam). When I first installed this cable, NOTHING would recognize my keyboard being attatched. It took me about 4 hours of trial and errors and some googling to find out that my Logitech webcam was preventing the cable from being recognized as an audio input. So, uninstall that stuff first, THEN try using the midi cable.
#2. Once again after hours of trial and error, and some googling, I found a catch with CubaseLE4. If you're using midi to make drum tracks, guitar tracks, etc. (Kore Player, EZDrummer, etc.), you have to add the channel as a VIRTUAL instrument, NOT a midi instrument. I don't know why they changed it in LE. But, I do know that it was a confusing lock out for me. Hopefully I saved someone a little frustration.

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboar Review

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is, by far, the cheapest option right now for a comparable length USB MIDI interface cable: a measly $6. For those who want a straight answer: yes, it works. For me. If yours doesn't, HDE has a great return policy.
PROS:
- Very easy setup, driver installs automatically within seconds
- Windows XP, Vista 32 and 64-bit compatible
- Very cheap, while offering an authentic USB MIDI interface
CONS:
- Cord is a little too short for me--about 5 feet
- High latency. Latency is the time it takes for input from your keyboard to reach your computer, and in my experience the latency for this interface is really high--around a quarter to three quarters of a second. This makes it very hard to play live accompaniment to background music you've created. However, if you disable MIDI playback in your sequencing program and just listen to the notes as they're played on your keyboard, you can shift all of the notes in your program after you've finished and it works just fine. It's a couple extra steps per song, or a couple dozen more dollars for a faster cord :3
- Those lights on the converter are annoying!
NOTES
- When setting up, if you are getting no sound, try switching the MIDI IN/OUT ports on your input device. On Yamaha products, "MIDI IN" goes into the keyboard's "MIDI OUT" port, etc. so you can't just match them up!

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboard Window Win Vista XP, Mac OS Review

USB MIDI Cable Converter PC to Music Keyboard Window Win Vista XP, Mac OS

I bought a cheap yamaha keyboard about 6 years ago. It had the option of midi connection with computers, but at the time Yamaha wanted like half the price of the keyboard for the connecting cord! So I didn't get it. Now I was looking at this and the price is such a steal in comparison I thought I would try it. It worked! I have a piano program, and the cord connects to both my Vista computer and my XP computer without trouble -- just plug it in. Remember to plug the "In" into the "Out" and vise versa. It comes with instructions specially says to do that, and I messed up anyway. Silly me.
Good deal, I recommend it. But do remember that you need a piano program to make things happen, the same way you need a word processing program or something before you can type something on the computer with a normal typing keyboard. You can find freeware piano keyboard software such as Anvil Studio on the internet.
