D-Link DKVM-2K 2-Port KVM Switch, Desktop, Built-In Cables Review

I have also encountered the freezing mouse problem (but only on the rare ocassion).
I usually only use one computer at a time (Both running XP Home) but have on occasion used both switching back and forth.
To reduce the need for two monitors, mice and keyboards; I think it is money well spent.
[Edit]
One of my computers was an always powered Mother Board and it would always default to that computer and would have to switch back. This is not a problem with the switch and I did not dock points for that but I am sharing this for your information.

SOHO 4-Port KVM Switch; VGA & PS2/USB Review

SOHO 4-Port KVM Switch; VGA and PS2/USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In my company, we have used the Raritan KVM switches for many years. The 4 computers under my desk are used to switch between different computing environments. Unfortunately, we got 24" monitors which required 1920x1080 resolution. The Raritan couldn't handle that high a resolution and dropped it to 1400x1050. I searched for reasonably-priced KVM solutions which a was a big hassle. Lots of things to support in the coming years and many users' reviews to read about their satisfaction.
Criteria:
Front panel access to select computer. One push should select the computer
4 ports that support ps/2 and usb
Vga video port as opposed to DVI
2048 x 1536 supported resolution
Include 4 sets of cables in price
I narrowed the choices to: Belkin f1ds104j, Triplite b0006-vu4-r, and Iogear gcs1734 and selected the Belkin.
I waited to see if the KVM would work as advertised and it did. Make sure you follow the short instructions and the video worked great. The only minor flaw is the keyboard repeat rate seems slightly slower.

IOGEAR 2-Port USB DVI-D Cable KVM with Audio and Mic GCS932UB (Black) Review

IOGEAR 2-Port USB DVI-D Cable KVM with Audio and Mic GCS932UB (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this KVM. Here are a few thoughts after using it for a few days:
REASON I BOUGHT THIS ONE: It had two USB 2.0 ports, and no PS2 ports. IOGear has had some great customer reviews for this, and other KVM products. I liked the fact that I plugged my own DVI cable into the switch to my monitor making cable length irrelevant. And finally, the one negative review I did see here was answered directly by an IOGEAR representative attempting to address the problem.
PACKAGING: Nice cardboard box, foam wrap around all internal components, manuals were in color and in plastic bags, the manual content is complete but concise in English.
QUALITY: Everything seems to be made of sturdy high quality components. The cables are thick, well insulated, and are generous length. You would only need to be concerned with cable length if your two machines are over 10 feet away from each other. There are plastic caps that cover the stereo cables if not in use and the cables themselves are color-coded. The cables plug into the switch ports firm and secure.
HOOK-UP: Couldn't be easier. There was no need to look at the manual, everything is intuitive enough. There is a mini stereo jack cable for your left/right speakers and then one for your microphone. I have a 4.1 surround setup and I don't have a need for a microphone. Well, good news for those like me... just use the microphone stereo port for your rear left/right and you will have full 4.1 surround through the KVM. This was a great surprise, and it works.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: One problem I ran into was that my Logitech MX510 mouse has 5 additional buttons. When run through the KVM it only detects a standard three button scroll wheel mouse. I never really used these buttons anyway, but it required me to reconfigure the mouse driver to speed up the cursor movement again.
I hid the KVM switch behind my desk and only see the slim remote button. The bottom of the button has a no-slip rubber pad, so you can lay it on your desk flat and it won't really slide anywhere. The button itself is easy to find and press without having to look at it.
Everything else worked great right out of the box. Since this is a digital KVM switch, you don't have to worry about quality of the signal. Either the signal arrives or it doesn't. You get perfect clarity or nothing at all. In my case, it's perfect. There is absolutely no difference in display quality when compared to directly connected the computer to the display.
MY SPECS: Computer #1 is an older XP machine with a ATI 9800 graphics card. The other machine is an HP running 64-bit Windows 7 with a GeForce 260. The mouse is a Logitech MX510. The keyboard is an older Microsoft split ergonomic PS /2 keyboard. I used a USB adapter without any issues at all. I hooked up a PC Works FourPointSurround (with subwoofer) through the two mini-stereo ports. Like I mentioned earlier, you can use any equipment that uses two mini-stereo ports, it doesn't have to be a microphone.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I am completely satisfied and this product has met my expectations. My opinion of IOGear has increased a few notches. When looking for future hardware, I'll certainly give IOGear a favorable consideration.

StarTech 4-Port Professional VGA USB KVM Switch with Hub (SV431USB) Review

StarTech 4-Port Professional VGA USB KVM Switch with Hub (SV431USB)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This KVM is advertised to work without a power supply under Mac and PC (as specified on the startech.com website) but doesn't. It has a 5v recepticle but doesn't even include a cheapo wall wart. The 5v voltage is not even common enough for Radio Shack to carry them so they are expecting a lot from the end user.
The specific problem is I get a warning from my Macs about too much power being drawn and then the keyboad and/or mouse gets disabled.
I have 2 differnt setups where it fails to work. One consists of a PowerMac G4 and a PowerBook G4 with a ViewSonic 20" monitor, Apple Pro keyboard, and Microsoft Optical Mouse.
The other setup consists of a PowerBook G4, Old Micron Linux box, Sony 17" LCD, Apple Pro keyboard, and a Logitech Optical mouse.
These seem like common configurations so I am wondering if it is defective or unrealistic about its power requirements. I have written startech.com about this issue. I will update this review once I get a response.

============
UPDATE

Startech sent me the power adapter needed when connecting to Macs. BTW, its not included. Seems to work as advertised but I have noticed that if I don't switch to a Mac for an extended period it wont wakeup.

Cisco-Linksys KVM2KIT ProConnect Integrated KVM 2-Port Switch Review

Cisco-Linksys KVM2KIT ProConnect Integrated KVM 2-Port Switch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used many KVMs in server rooms. These industrial-strength boxes are big and expensive because they're designed to allow you to control large number of servers.
Another feature of server-oriented KVMs is that they give an audible "chirp" when you switch to a new machine. That's helpful in noisy server rooms when you are switching between servers that have desktops that look mostly alike.
But when I wanted a KVM to switch between 2 PCs at home, I wanted something small, inexpensive, and quiet (I most definitely don't want a loud "chirp!" waking up my kids at night).
This Linksys is just about perfect. Because it has cables molded in, it is very compact. It switches silently (no chirp), and the video signal is clear and free of jitter or noise even at high res (1280x1024) with high refresh rates.
Another customer said that he had some compatibility problems, but I haven't had any. I use a Microsoft optical USB mouse with a PS2 converter (it's a little adapter plug that came with the mouse) and I have used the KVM with a normal Dell keyboard, and with my current ultra-ergonomic Kinesis Classic keyboard.
I would have given this unit 5 stars, except that I think the cables would benefit from being just a bit longer. As it is, the unit works well, has excellent compatibility, and is an incredible value.

IOGEAR 4-Port MiniView USB KVM Switch with Audio and Cables GCS634U Review

IOGEAR 4-Port MiniView USB KVM Switch with Audio and Cables GCS634U
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I liked the handsome unit, solid build quality, rubber non-stick base, etc. but I had problems using this switch with USB keyboards. In the end, I either used a PS2 keyboard or monkeyed around with PS2->USB converters to plug in a USB keyboard. I had no problems with my USB mouse.
But because this unit can only switch ports via the keyboard, it made it difficult to use a new USB keyboard that I liked (Logitech Dinovo Edge). Either the keyboard switching worked or the keyboard's driver worked, and I needed the driver to support the volume and touchpad controls of this fancy keyboard. So in the end, I had to buy a simpler USB switch that had a physical button to switch ports (and found that the other switch, the Belkin Flip, even supported the fancy USB keyboard drivers *and* keyboard switching).

Belkin F1DG102U Flip 2-Port KVM Switch with Audio Support (USB Connection) Review

Belkin F1DG102U Flip 2-Port KVM Switch with Audio Support (USB Connection)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just what I was looking for - an easy way to run a desktop server and docked laptop with one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse.
A few things you should know before plunking down for this -
1) Make sure you are using a keyboard and mouse that are either BOTH usb, or BOTH ps2. If you mix and match, you'll need an adapter for one of them, or have to replace the one that doesnt connect. They sell this product with usb or ps2, so you can pick. My keyboard was not usb, but I bought the usb version, since my next one probably will be.
2) Switching back and forth isnt instantaneous. It take about 5 seconds for it to adjust before you can use your mouse, which is also accompanied by some "recognized hardware" noises, but mercifully, no popup announcements.
3) Another issue, is your screen resolution. Supposedly this supports up to 2048 x 1536 at 65Hz. However, after hooking it up, my resolution has been degraded. The settings are the same (1280x1024) at highest 32 bit color and 65Hz refresh, but the screen is noticeably more blurry, which is a bit irritating. Perhaps I will figure this out, but so far, no luck.
Aside from these issues, nice product. No software required, so you just plug it in and go. Some people have mentioned that this doesnt work with a scroll button on a mouse, but my MS mouse two-button with scroll works the same as ever.
Will repost if I resolve any of the above issues...

I bought a Starview 2-Port KVM Switch Kit with Cables (PC/Mac) and everything works great. When switching to the imac mini there is about a 0.5 second delay and when switching to windows there is a 2 second delay, can't complain. Also all 5 buttons and the scrollwheel work on the Starview. I would recommend anyone if you don't mind pressing a button on the unit to switch.
I originally had a IOGEAR GCS632U and had nothing but problems. Couldn't get it to work with my Windows XP. See the GCS632U page for my review on it.
I wish I would have bought the Starview to begin with. 5/5!

Average Reviews:

I initially dismissed this product because it looked cheap, and seemed to be priced accordingly. But after reading some of the reviews, I decided to buy it and risk a whopping 24 bucks. It was a great buy.
What it does - It switches your VGA monitor between two computers, along with your USB keyboard and USB mouse. It has two buttons on the device to control the switching. It has two USB ports that go to your keyboard and your mouse. It has three VGA ports. One goes to your monitor (you use the cable you already have). Two go to your two computers. Interestingly, the KVM-to-computer cable, a special cable that is included (two of them), also carries the USB signal. The cable splits at the computer end and you connect the VGA connector and the USB connector to their respective ports on your computers.
What it does not - It does not switch audio. It is not designed to switch additional USB devices, although it may work for some devices that do not need high bus-power, if your keyboard acts as a unpowered hub. The device itself is powered by the computer's USB bus and it does not have a separate power supply.
This is exactly what I needed. KVM stands for keyboard, video, and mouse. That's all I wanted to switch between two computers (a Mac and a Linux PC laptop). I considered other KVM devices, and they had more features such as audio switching and special software, but they cost much more than this simple device. The package comes with software for switching, but it is for Windows only. The docs say it has a hot key, the scroll lock key hit twice in succession, that controls the switch. However, it did not work for me, probably because of my Mac keyboard which does not have a dedicated scroll lock key. However, the device is sitting next to my keyboard, and I just hit the appropriate button (1 or 2) to switch. It is quite small. The switching is nearly instant. What could be more simple than that?
A few things I have tried... It works fine at 1600x1200, 75 Hz. My normally used Mac resolution is 1280x960 at 75 Hz. My Linux laptop is old and can only externally output 1024x764 at 60 Hz, which also works fine. I do not see any degrading of picture quality going through this KVM. My monitor is 19-inch CRT.
In summary, the Trendnet TK207K 2-Port USB KVM Switch works great at a great price. If a simple two-way KVM for VGA/USB is what you need, I recommend this one.

This switch simply works. No complicated setup, no software to install. Just turn off both computers. Plug the shared keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers and microphone into the switch, connect the included cables into the switch and the two computers. Then turn on the first computer, the one you want to designate as #1. After the first computer boots up and everything is okay, then push the #2 button and boot the second computer. That's it. From then on, you just push the button #1 or #2 to make the switch. It switches instantly, if both computers are not asleep. If one is asleep, it gives the signal, and then the PC takes only a few seconds to wake up.
I read a lot of reviews and I'm glad I did. Other switches seem to need software to work well, and rely on keystrokes to change. Because this switch has a button, it just truly switches over without any need to install software, making it the most generic. For PCs, you can use the scroll-lock+scroll-lock key combination to elicit the switchover. But it's simpler just to teach my kids to select button 1 or button 2.

I have an old Dell ergonomic (split) keyboard that I really like, that still works great, but has a PS2 plug. I have a new Dell Optiplex 300 that only has USB outlets - no PS2. This is the perfect solution - plug and play. It just works. I was a little concerned after reading some reviews for similar products, especially after reading the mixed reviews for Cables Unlimited ADP-5210, for example. After reading another review for another product, I found this, ordered it, and am very satisfied. Highly recommended. In fact, I'm typing out this review with the keyboard connected through the adapter right now!
