Gateway SX2840-01 Desktop PC (Black) Review

Gateway SX2840-01 Desktop PC (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Gateway SX2840 is a terrific value, and this cannot be understated. With its i3-530 processor (which is very highly rated and supposedly easy to overclock), 6GB of DDR3 Ram, the H57 mobo, 1TB green HDD and Windows 7 Home Premium, you could expect to pay $700+. An equivalent computer from Dell or HP runs $720+, as does one built yourself through NewEgg. With the addition of an HD4650 or a 9800GT (low profile), this can be a competent gaming rig as well.
The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is purely to do with Gateway. I haven't purchased a pre-made computer in years, and now I remember why. Gateway does not include recovery disks, instead provides software to burn them (3 DVDs of Windows 7 and bloatware). However, you can expect a dozen or so disks to fail the burning process. I called asking how to clean install, and after taking 30 minutes to register me, forwarded me to a "software help line" that wanted to charge me. I called again explaining that I could not burn recovery disks and that this was a common problem according to the internet. The tech agreed, and said they would send out physical copies, but they are not available yet. She requested i call back in a few weeks. I e-mailed Gateway asking how to do a clean install of Windows 7 without bloatware, and they responded with a form letter on how to use the recovery partition (to factory default).
If you're a casual or HTPC user, you cannot beat this value, and you will likely have no problem living with the bloatware that Gateway, or any other manufacturer puts on. If you are more of an advanced user, with ideas of doing a clean install, expect drama. I got a Windows 7 disk from a "friend", and entered my product key, but this required calling Microsoft's help line. If you follow this strategy, remember to enter your product key when it first asks, don't click next and install without.
I purchased this computer for its parts, not the Gateway name, and saved nearly $200.
May 24, 2010: I recently installed an HD5570 video card, and highly recommend it. I now have the following Windows Experience ratings: Processor 6.9, Memory 7.0, Graphics 6.7, Gaming graphics 6.7, Primary hard disk 5.9. For the price, this is still unbeatable.

eMachines ET1831-05 Desktop (Black) Review

eMachines ET1831-05 Desktop (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, I just purchased this eMachines ET1831-05, but I have been incredibly impressed. The shipping was super fast (and, no sales tax here in PA!), and setup was a breeze. The computer is fast, quick, and easy to use. Granted, I have had the computer up for less than a day, but it seems to work perfectly so far. Honestly, I don't know why you would need more computer than what this eMachines offers - maybe if you are in to some really intense video games or complicated video editing, you need something greater than this, but don't think because you want to upload a few pictures or videos sometimes that you need to spend hundreds of dollars on a computer. This computer is replacing a Dell that we have had for a good 4 or 5 years, and it is so incredible how much faster, smoother, and quieter this new computer is. Really - just love it so far.
Also, the keyboard and mouse are both very nice. I had wondered whether or not the keyboard had the tabs to make it stand up or whether it was just flat - it does have the tabs to make it stand up if you prefer. Also, the mouse is optical, so no complaints there. Of course, if you didn't already realize it, remember there is no monitor, speakers, or system discs with this computer (I really wish computer manufacturers could just give you the system discs when you buy a computer, but I realize eMachines is not alone in doing this). Again, absolutely no complaints - a great computer for the money.

Gateway DX4840-37 Desktop (Black) Review

Gateway DX4840-37 Desktop (Black)
Average Reviews:

I saw the two previous negative reviews and was concerned but realized that out of the many who had bought it, only two complained. Having a previous positive experience with Gateway, I took the risk. It runs just as expected and advertised and is a great computer. Only problem is that the monitor is just a tad too wide for my desk. Otherwise, this is a good machine and I recommend it for the same reasons I bought it - good RAM and expandable to 16 GB so it can keep up with program size creep as well as a 3.2 processor and a 1TB hard drive. It just doesn't get any better!

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6040 TruBrite 16.0-Inch Laptop (Black/Silver) Review

Toshiba Satellite A505-S6040 TruBrite 16.0-Inch Laptop (Black/Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This computer is an absolute great price for what it offers, and it delivers. I am a photographer who needed to upgrade to a computer with a faster processor and one that could handle the workload I put on it with CS4, and this one is great. Compared to my old laptop, this one zips right through loading enormous raw images and and processing in photoshop with ease. I spent a while looking to find a computer that offered everything this one does in a price range I could afford and also had a bigger screen size. My old laptop was a 17", so this one was a little bit of a downgrade in regards to screen size, but its still good enough and an acceptable trade off for the specs of the computer itself. I also do a bit of gaming, WOW particularly, and it runs better than my husband's computer in regards to graphics..which he isn't necessarily too happy with. :)
As for two other reviews about some negative aspects of the laptop:
One reviewer mentioned the DVD drive was extremely noisy. It is a little loud, I will attest to that, but I wouldn't say anywhere near as loud as I took from their review. I did not find it overly disturbing or distracting, and I could certainly hear the sound of the music or movie I was playing over it.
Another reviewer mentioned how he hated the computer because of the keyboard. I think the keyboard is great. I have no trouble feeling which key is which. Its bigger than normal though, or maybe, just the letter/numbers on each key are bigger than normal. I felt like I had ordered something designed for an older person or someone who may not be able to see well at first glance because of the size of the letters. The "L" is approx. 4-5cm long. So that was something I sort of laughed about at first, but now I don't notice it at all. I am picky about how my 'keyboard' feels, and normally would go to store and test out all the laptops, and if the keystroke didn't feel good to me, I would reconsider a purchase of any particular laptop. But I really like this keyboard, and I like the back-lighting, which I didn't have previously.
Overall, I think this computer is a steal what what you are getting.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Most current netbooks have a lot of similarities--with the same processor (Atom N270), similar size hard drives (most new with 160 GB) and similar LCD panel resolutions. The HP Mini-Note 2140 is no exception to most of these base tech specs except for the LCD panel resolution of 1024x576 (instead of 1024x600 like most others in the 10" range).
So why is this 2140 my current marginal favorite in comparison, after trying out friends' and those available in stores?
- Unlike most manufacturers, HP really got the keyboard right. The shift keys and enter key are large and where you expect them to be. Unlike other manufacturers, things are in place for productive touch typing and the 92%-size of standard laptop keyboard is pretty easy to adjust to.
- The exterior casing is made of solid-feeling aluminum instead of plastic. The netbook feels more durable and looks beautiful in comparison to most netbooks which can look a bit cheap in my opinion. The aluminum adds a few ounces to the weight, but mine is still under 3 pounds with the 6 cell battery.
- The netbook has a good selection of ports and connectors on the outside. It comes with an ExpressCard/54 slot which no other netbook currently does as far as I'm aware. Most of the other connectors are similar to other netbooks. It also has 2 USB ports, an analog (vga) monitor out jack (see below for my complaints about it), an SD card slot and separate mic and audio out jacks.
You would think I would be raving about this netbook, but I ran into some problems with my computer that make it less usable.
I am unable to get any resolution above 1024x768 on any of the three external monitors I've tried it on. Two of the monitors are 1280x1024 resolution and one is 1440x900. This is even with ONLY the external monitor enabled. At the same time, my 4 year old notebook and my desktop detect and make correct resolutions available for the 1280x1024 monitors (my other monitor is a slightly odd resolution). Updating drivers seems to make no difference (the one from HPs site or the Intel drivers). The monitor will not detect correctly and free software (Monitor Asset Manager) that bypasses the windows registry to query the plug'n'play monitor properties directly cannot detect the external monitors correctly on this piece of hardware (works fine on both my other computers).
It seems other people are not having the same kinds of problems that I am encountering, so I was either the lucky recipient of a computer with some highly ingrained software or hardware problems, or it has difficulty playing nice with some monitors that have pretty standard resolutions.
Unfortunately, HP support is somewhere between awful and abysmal and has not chosen to make any reply to my support request email aside from an automatic confirmation they received it (and it has been over two weeks).
A more minor quibble is that the built-in LCD panel resolution is only 1024x576 instead of 1024x600 like most other netbooks. Though it's only a 24-line difference, on this small of a screen every pixel counts more than on a larger monitor. At least the resolution is properly advertised so you know what you're getting.
The touchpad also has it's buttons on the side, which some people dislike but didn't bother me.
It's overall a good netbook. If HP would fix my external monitor issues, I'd probably think it was the best one currently available. As it stands, it's a good, but mine is flawed and my experience with HP's support has been very poor so far.

HP Pavilion Elite M9500F Desktop PC Review

HP Pavilion Elite M9500F Desktop PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My review is mostly for Enthusiast/Professional Photographers...
I needed a new powerful desktop with 64-bit processing. My Sony Vaio desktop that once was cutting edge two years ago,is now not able to keep up with many of todays demands. Especially my updated versions of Photoshop CS, and Lightroom 2.3 which works native in 64-bit.
64-bit allows windows to accept, use and maximize a computer with 4+ gbs of RAM. The HP Pavilion Elite M9550F comes pre-installed with a maxed out 8gbs of ram.
So for a photographer using high end software, and downloading large amounts of files. This computer works swiftly and effortlessly.
On my older sony desktop, it took about 15 minutes to download 4gb off of a compact flashcard. I could not do any other task while it downloaded, or risked data loss or the download not completing.
It takes about a minute to download with the HP, and I listen to music and/or check emails with no detectable slow down in the system.
On my old desktop, if I changed modules in lightroom, or did any form of editing it took a few seconds to see the changes. I sometimes had to hit Ctrl+Z so I can see the before image. With my new HP,... It's so fast that I miss the changes if they are not drastic. The screen appears to blink, because it responds so fast to my commands.
The onboard 1TB of storage is another huge plus. There are still very few desktops on the market with an internal 1TB drive. I have purchased three 1TB external hardrives, with two mirroring the HP's internal drive. There is a bay available that can be used for an additional internal drive, and you can purchase a HP Media Drive up to 1TB to plug right into a special bay. No wires, or software is necessary.
I distribute CD's to models and clients often. The LightScribe technology that is part of the CD/DVD drive lets you etch custom labels and artwork right on a LightScribe-enabled CD or DVD. This allows you to look professional and a cut about the rest.
There are several ways to hook up a monitor, so I have the VGA attached to my old CRT monitor, and HDMI port attached to a 30inch flatscreen. Using dual displays is just a few clicks, and takes your image editing to another level.
There are a lot of features that I'm sure I missed, but these are the standout features to me, using it for photography.

Apple Mac mini M9687LL/B (1.42 GHz PowerPC G4, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Mac Mini was released in January 2005 at Mac World, and was then updated, for the first time, in July 2005. This Mac Mini is the result of that update.
Improvements - The $599 Mac Mini now sports 512 MB of DDR SDRAM, which is twice the memory the original Mac Mini included. This is a significant upgrade. The majority of users can now buy, out of the box, a machine that performs beautifully and allows a fair amount of multi-tasking. The Mac operating system, Mac OS X Tiger, thrives on memory, and 512 MB helps to create a speedy experience, for users.
Bluetooth - Bluetooth is a great wireless technology that Apple heavily backs, and it is included with this Mac Mini, an addition, from the original Mac Minis, when bluetooth was an optional add-on, at Apple.com, for $50 more. Purchase a bluetooth keyboard or bluetooth mouse, and they will work wirelessly, with your Mac Mini. It makes for a very clean and uncluttered desktop. There are also many mobile phones and PDAs, which utilize bluetooth technology, which you can sync to your mac using isync, included with Mac Mini.
Airport Extreme - This is the wireless networking card now included with the $599 Mac Mini, after being a $70+ upgrade at Apple.com, on the previous model. Do you have a wireless-b or wireless-g network in your home? If so, the Mac Mini will be able to connect to it, without problem. Again, making the computing experience simpler and less tangled.
The Good Things that Continue to Shine with Mac Mini - A buyer of the Mac Mini will continue to enjoy Mac OS X Tiger, which is the best consumer operating system in the world. It works with the hardware beautifully to provide a simple, fast, elegant, and reliable experience. One of the favorite descriptions of Mac fans, to describe Macs, is simply, "it just works."
The Mac Mini continues to include iLife '05, with great applications such as iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iTunes, and Garageband. These are all included, with every Mac Mini. You will be challenged to find any PC that includes applications that come anywhere close to the iLife suite. Manage thousands of your digital images in iPhoto, create home movies in iMovie, and create professional music in Garageband.
Appleworks is included for simply word processing, spreadsheets, etc., but you might want to pick up Microsoft Office for Mac. A student/teacher edition is available, for just over $100.
Speed - The 1.42 GHZ PowerPC G4 processor makes the Mac Mini a very capable machine. This will satisfy the horsepower needed to complete tasks in the iLife suite, included with your Mac Mini.
Hard Drive - 80 GB is a significant-sized hard drive, so you will be able to store thousands of photos and songs.
ComboDrive - The Apple Combo Drive allows you to burn music and data CDs, plus you can watch DVDs!
Drawbacks? The $599 version of the Mac Mini no longer includes a modem, if you want this version of the Mac Mini with a modem, you will have to custom-order it at Apple.com. However, the ethernet port is included on the back, to plug into a DSL or cable modem, plus you have the Airport Extreme, for wireless connections. However, if you don't have broadband, you'll need a modem for dial-up, so you will either need to order a custom-built Mac Mini at Apple.com, or buy the stock $499 model, which includes a modem, but lacks the wireless components.
Overall, Apple has created another fantastic product, with the Mac Mini, and the July 2005 update only made it better. You get more memory, plus wireless connectivity via bluetooth and airport extreme. This Mac Mini really includes everything the average user needs to enjoy the internet, manage his or her digital life, and have fun doing it all.

I picked this Gateway up as an addition to our HP gaming laptop, but didn't want do dish out another 2 grand for something top of the line.
This is a "bare-bones" gateway model. What this means is you're going to get the best performance for the buck, with little else in terms of frills. Consider this a computer you would buy if you want the power of a quad-core, a lot of RAM, and a dedicated video card without having to pay an arm and a leg for it. I walked out of the store paying just under 1100 for the tower, 22-inch HDMI monitor, and an all-in-one printer. You can't beat a deal like this in any retail store (unless you're thrifty at newegg).
Pros
-Quad Core at 2.33, 4MB L2 Cache; decent processing speed for the price
- Dedicated Nvidia GT 120 video card with HDMI output, 1G memory and dual screen capable. The GT120 benchmarked about 30 fps on Crysis with normal settings. When running on high modes on Spore, WoW, and Crysis, the frame rates dropped considerably. Expect to be able to play any retail game out now, just don't expect incredibly detailed video settings to play with.
- 64-bit Vista. As a computer junkie I've regularly hated Vista; and still do. For a casual computer user you'll like the speed and ease-of-use 64-bit vista brings. It loads a lot faster too.
- 8GB DDR2 memory; not the newest technology but we're talking about a 18% slower response time than DDR3. If you don't know what that means then I wouldn't worry about it. Multiple programs were loaded with no load times after it's initial startup. Cons:
- The tower is huge and ugly. Weighed in at just under 40 lbs. Have fun finding space for this hog!
- No wireless ethernet card
- No second DVD drive
- Realtek HD software sound was faulty right out of the box. Required a reinstall. The same problem happened with the hard drive when it tried to install RAID. There is only one hard drive on the computer, so why is RAID trying to install itself? Logitech software wouldn't install, had to use previous versions. Some old computer perpetuals don't work on the 64-bit version, and created unknown errors with trying to rollback the drivers for 32-bit.
- 640GB seemed a bit small for a multimedia labeled computer. Uncompressed video reaches 100GB in a matter of minutes. I would have expected something at or near a terrabyte. We're living in a recession, so good deals are more important now than ever. With the LX 6810, you get what you pay for and in this case its a good thing. Don't expect overpriced accessories to accompany this massive beast, just expect a good quality engine under the hood.

I ordered this Dell XPS8100 last weekend using the FREE shipping option (5-9 business days). I received the PC and a Dell Monitor (Amazon via [...])yesterday. Very fast delivery. I've just started setting things up. I had an initial concern regarding the speed of the memory, however, after running a couple of different diagnostic programs, I learned that the memory was as advertised, 6GB, DDR3, 1333Mhz. The PC is much quieter than my previous one, and also runs considerably cooler (about 85 degrees F). I don't know about the primary hard drive other than it is a SATA. Most XPS PC's come with a SATA II 3 Gb/s. For $699, it appears this was a good deal.

I've been peddling along with an old HP that had 80gb hard drive and 1gb ram. I ordered this computer and have been thrilled with it's performance, speed, quiet, and boot-up is so fast. I was a little leery of Windows 7 but now love it. I went to you tube
and [...] and watched several tutorial videos prior to receiving desktop which made it so much easier to use. Windows XP is now a stranger to me. There are so many things about Windows 7 that make computing so much easier.I found top-windows-tutorials extremely helpful Amazon is a great place to shop. For anyone out there that is thinking of picking this up. It does work on Windows 7. The installation is a little tricky but it does work.
To install you must do the following:
1. Open cd in explorer window.
2. Go to Software folder
3. Right click on InstallGB.exe and select properties
4. Go to compatability tab
5. Select run in Windows XP (SP3) and run as admin press ok
6. Go to Intervideo folder
7. Do the same for setup.exe
8. Go back and run InstallGB.exe
9. Plug in device when asked and follow install prompts.
Should work just fine now. I had no problems with my install. Worked on the first try. I never was able to get this thing to work properly on XP or Vista due to lack of PC power. Runs beautifully on my Win 7 system. Quality of video capture is nothing to write home about but it does the trick.

Lenovo Ideacentre Q150 Series 40814AU Desktop (Black) Review

Lenovo Ideacentre Q150 Series 40814AU Desktop (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this for a home theater PC to watch downloaded videos on my LCD TV. I had looked at the Mac Mini and other options, but chose to buy this. It has the same nVidia 9400M graphics as the Mac Mini and it's about the same size (maybe smaller). The only difference between the two (other than $350 in price) is that the Ideacentre uses a dual core Atom instead of a Core 2 Duo processor.
The dual core Atom D510 is surprisingly zippy. With the ION graphics, it has no trouble handling 1080p video (x264 with DTS for example). Out of the box HDMI video with audio over HDMI worked like a charm. It was really plug and play. Has optical digital audio out on the front (SPDIF) if you need it. Runs quiet. Even has the VESA bracket to mount it to the back of your LCD TV!
The included remote is very good overall. Took me a few minutes to realize that the USB transceiver was stored in the battery compartment of the remote. Once I found it and plugged it in, it worked great. Only (trivial) complaint is that there are no function keys.
If you need a small HTPC that will play anything, give this little guy some serious consideration!

IOGEAR 2-Port USB DVI-D Cable KVM with Audio and Mic GCS932UB (Black) Review

IOGEAR 2-Port USB DVI-D Cable KVM with Audio and Mic GCS932UB (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this KVM. Here are a few thoughts after using it for a few days:
REASON I BOUGHT THIS ONE: It had two USB 2.0 ports, and no PS2 ports. IOGear has had some great customer reviews for this, and other KVM products. I liked the fact that I plugged my own DVI cable into the switch to my monitor making cable length irrelevant. And finally, the one negative review I did see here was answered directly by an IOGEAR representative attempting to address the problem.
PACKAGING: Nice cardboard box, foam wrap around all internal components, manuals were in color and in plastic bags, the manual content is complete but concise in English.
QUALITY: Everything seems to be made of sturdy high quality components. The cables are thick, well insulated, and are generous length. You would only need to be concerned with cable length if your two machines are over 10 feet away from each other. There are plastic caps that cover the stereo cables if not in use and the cables themselves are color-coded. The cables plug into the switch ports firm and secure.
HOOK-UP: Couldn't be easier. There was no need to look at the manual, everything is intuitive enough. There is a mini stereo jack cable for your left/right speakers and then one for your microphone. I have a 4.1 surround setup and I don't have a need for a microphone. Well, good news for those like me... just use the microphone stereo port for your rear left/right and you will have full 4.1 surround through the KVM. This was a great surprise, and it works.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: One problem I ran into was that my Logitech MX510 mouse has 5 additional buttons. When run through the KVM it only detects a standard three button scroll wheel mouse. I never really used these buttons anyway, but it required me to reconfigure the mouse driver to speed up the cursor movement again.
I hid the KVM switch behind my desk and only see the slim remote button. The bottom of the button has a no-slip rubber pad, so you can lay it on your desk flat and it won't really slide anywhere. The button itself is easy to find and press without having to look at it.
Everything else worked great right out of the box. Since this is a digital KVM switch, you don't have to worry about quality of the signal. Either the signal arrives or it doesn't. You get perfect clarity or nothing at all. In my case, it's perfect. There is absolutely no difference in display quality when compared to directly connected the computer to the display.
MY SPECS: Computer #1 is an older XP machine with a ATI 9800 graphics card. The other machine is an HP running 64-bit Windows 7 with a GeForce 260. The mouse is a Logitech MX510. The keyboard is an older Microsoft split ergonomic PS /2 keyboard. I used a USB adapter without any issues at all. I hooked up a PC Works FourPointSurround (with subwoofer) through the two mini-stereo ports. Like I mentioned earlier, you can use any equipment that uses two mini-stereo ports, it doesn't have to be a microphone.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I am completely satisfied and this product has met my expectations. My opinion of IOGear has increased a few notches. When looking for future hardware, I'll certainly give IOGear a favorable consideration.

Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV5 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Fusion X2 Finish in Charcoal) Review

Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV5 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Fusion X2 Finish in Charcoal)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I absolutely love this laptop! I have owned it for about a month now, and never looked back or questioned my decision.
Let me start off by saying that I am an IT professional, so I not only buy equipment for myself and my family, I also influence purchasing decisions of hundreds at work, and work with equipment of every brand.
I researched laptops for about 2 months before I bought this item, but I had made my mind up after the first month - I was just shopping around for different versions after that. This is an absolutely GREAT value for the money. This laptop retails for 1299.00, and every other store I checked locally (Dallas, TX area), as well as several different online stores, were all more expensive. Amazon was (when I purchased this) about 150 dollars cheaper than average, and 50 dollars cheaper than the next cheapest.
On to the features... I am an avid gamer, and primarly settled on this laptop because of the nVidia 3D Vision. I also use this laptop as a work computer, for when I am not going to be in the office, or simply don't want to be tied to my desk that day. This laptop not only has the discrete graphics, but also has a screen that supports 3D Vision. It also comes with a pair of nVidia shutter glasses. I couldn't really determine ahead of time, but this laptop has the IR transmitter built-in. This is both good and bad. It's good that you don't have to have a USB cable attached to a little pyramid just to use the 3D, but there is a down-side: Those external IR emitters have a little wheel on them to adjust the 3d effect. From what I've read, some laptops with intergrated 3d have a key combination to do the same 3d adjustments, but there is nothing in the Toshiba documentation about it. This adjustment is important, because (if you haven't played games in true 3D yet) you will notice that not all games render 3d correctly. There is an information popup whenever you start a 3d game, telling you the nVidia rating for the game, as well as any issues that particular game has. Some of them will render objects either too close or too far away. If you have an external emitter, this is no big deal - just move the wheel, and you are good to go. If you have a Toshiba laptop, you are out of luck. Now, this isn't a big deal, as it doesn't happen that often (doesn't happen much at all with brand-new games), and even if you are playing an older game that is a little off, it doesn't ruin the effect, it's just not a totally perfect effect.
I called Toshiba about this. The agents are in India. I'm not a big fan of outsourcing, but I know that it's not the agent's fault that companies want to oursource, and it's also not their fault that they get crappy training. Anyway, she didn't have any idea what I was talking about - I'm not even 100% sure she knew that this laptop supports 3d, and was quick to tell me that they only support the hardware - not games themselves. I assured her that I only wanted the shortcut keys - not help with games. She gave me a link to a URL, that was just a list of all the shortcuts, and there is nothing there for 3d adjustments. So, I'm still in limbo to see if this adjustment is even possible on this laptop, and if so, how it is done.
Now, to the other equipment... The hard drive is massive. This model has a BluRay ROM (not burner) and a DVD Burner. There are other versions that include a BD burner, but they are much more expensive. The laptop is really speedy. Game performance was really horrible when I first got it. I updated the video drivers to the latest version, and everything started working perfectly. I can play any game I have tried with all the settings totally maxed out, in 3d, except sometimes I have to turn Anti-Alising down to 2x or 4x to get good framerates.
The model of video card included in this laptop (when purchased) was one of the few mobile video cards that supported 3D BluRay. It also comes with (along with all the usual bloatware) Corel WinDVD BD. Don't let the name fool you - this app supports 3D BluRay. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, though - mostly due to the fact that Netflix doesn't offer 3D BluRays yet. The wireless is Wireless-N, and is really fast. The keyboard has a keypad, and that's a good touch. The keys are little chicklet-style keys, but the placement and size of them are normal, so it doesn't really take any getting used to. The screen is glossy, and can produce a ton of glare, so that's the second negative thing. Battery life is horrible, but you should be expecting that if you are looking to get this much power in such a little package. On the same note, the laptop is really heavy - you could easily kill someone with it. One thing you might not expect, is that this laptop doesn't really get very hot on the bottom, so you can actually use it in your laptop - even gaming. It does a great job of routing the heat out with the fan.
Overall, the only 2 negative items I have are the lack of 3d effect adjustment, and the glare. Neither of these even come close to taking away from the 5 star rating I am giving this product.
If you are a gamer, like I, you will absolutely LOVE this laptop..

ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Netbook (Black)
Average Reviews:

I just got my 1015PEM on Friday. I created a USB install of Ubuntu and installed a 2GB DDR3 stick of RAM I had.
I'm running the latest Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick 64 bit beta, and it's fantastic! Everything works buttery smooth and is working right off (for those of you also using Ubuntu/Linux, the wireless drivers use the Broadcom STA drivers, just install via ethernet connection at first)
The keys and palmrests of smooth, not shiny, and extra comfortable to type on. I transitioned from a full-sized Mac keyboard to this little guy and had no problems adjusting.
The speakers are LOUD at full volume, for such a little thing. Far outshine my Acer 3810t with 'Dolby Experience'.
The power supply is superbly small.
I've been able to watch hulu, etc, just fine.
Last but not least, youtube 720p flash is a little jittery, but some updates in the future may fix this (this is after all, linux. Flash runs MUCH faster in Windows). Given that, there's really no need for 720p as the screen's resolution maxes out at 1024 by 600, so 480p looks (and works) just fine.
Finally, the battery life is outstanding :)
No regrets!

Average Reviews:

I chose this mouse for my laptop because it is cheap and it has good reviews. I like how it feels in my hand. It works very accurately and the pointer is not jumpy. Unbelievable that they can make this for $8.00! I enthusiastically recommend this mouse to anyone who needs a replacement.
