Microsoft Trackball Explorer Review

Microsoft Trackball Explorer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sleek, silver and glowing - I have this space-age thing on my desk that delights me. It's improved the position of my hand so that my CTS has ebbed, though I still need a wrist rest and frequent breaks. All the buttons, including the wheel button, are programmable, bringing the total of moving gizmos to 5 buttons a trackball and a wheel. This alone is reason to fiddle endlessly with it, trying to come up with the best combination of programming to suit the natural play of your hand. If anything, there are too many possible combinations of function, and you may spend a week or more playing with this puppy before you find a workable group of settings.
The functions are smooth, and reasonably reliable, depending on the position your hand takes. I find the left-hand buttons difficult to hit correctly with my thumb, thanks to some nerve damage so I reprogrammed them until I found a way that was comfortable for me to work. I strongly suggest you do the same.
If you're running Win XP, you'll have to d/l the newest Intellipoint drivers, but that's not a big deal. Installation is a snap with Plug 'n' Play.
I never thought I'd find anything that pleased me as much as my old Logitech trackball, but I have to say that I think this one might do it. Time will tell. But right from the start, I found it worth the investment.

Unlike the mechanical-trackball "mice of yore" that skip, stick, and need to be cleaned, the Microsoft D68-00007 TrackBall Explorer introduces an entirely new trackball featuring optical sensor technology. Reading through dirt, dust, and fingerprints, the optical sensor tracks the movement of the ball 1,500 times per second, giving you smooth, precise control. The Trackball Explorer comes with two additional buttons located on the side of the device--for a total of five buttons--for moving forward and back quickly in your browser, or you can program them. It also features a wheel for efficient scrolling and zooming and is ergonomically designed to support the natural position of your hand as you use your index finger to control the trackball.

Logitech Optical USB Mouse Review

Logitech Optical USB Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a notebook with a touchpad and I've been very happy with it until recently when the buttons starting crapping out. I started looking around for a mouse and was overwhelmed by the dizzying array of different ones out there. This is the 6th one I've tried and think it may be the one.
I tried wireless and it was okay but I'm much happier with the performance of the corded ones. Then there were some that had so many buttons I couldn't figure out what to do with them all; I kept hitting them accidentally and they usually ended up disabled. Some felt cheap and I thought the scroll wheel might actually fall off of one.
That brings me to this one. For me, this is a perfect mouse. It's not the most attractive one around but it's not really ugly. I have medium-sized hands and it fits nicely. There are no rubber grips but the plastic around the bottom is textured so it's easy to grip. The buttons are quiet and very easy to click. They are solid and don't feel like they might fall off as some of the cheaper ones do. The scroll wheel is great; it's a solid black rubber and rolls smoothly but clicks slightly too. It also has a tilt-wheel for those interested in that feature. The performance is fabulous.
You can use it without the Logitech software but if you want full use of all the features you have to download the software. If you have a slow connection this can be a real pain as the file is quite large. I ended up going to the public library and downloading it to a stick memory; it took all of five minutes. On my system (Windows XP) I found that I also have to keep the software running in the background if I want to have use of the tilt-wheel and the middle button; but you can disable it and still have use of two buttons and the scroll wheel. Really, unless you need the tilt-wheel and the middle button there is no reason to even download the software unless you have the same problem I do. When I switched to a USB mouse, my Windows Mouse settings started acting funny; they won't stay where I set them, even if I click 'Apply.' Whenever I restart, all the settings go back to Default. I don't have this problem though when I use the Logitech software.
If you want an inexpensive mouse that's easy to use and works great for moving your pointer around, and also has some additional features should you choose to use them, this one can't be beat!

Bamboo Fun (Small) Black Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software Review

Bamboo Fun (Small) Black Tablet with Pen, Mouse and Graphics Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wacom has brought this technology a long way. Many shopping for Wacom tablets probably have owned similar products in the past. This product is more affordable than the higher end Intuos3 models, yet powerful enough for many pros.
For me, the small size is perfect. The "medium" sized tablet is suited for hard core graphics people who need to work at the pixel level for large images. Those using this for the mouse also may prefer the medium size. However, most users will find the small size probably fits their needs. Either way, the tablet maps to your screen size for any of these models.
This unit comes in a variety of colors and configurations. I prefer the look of the black tablet, but there are silver, white and blue ones also.
Bamboo Fun (Medium) Silver Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software
Bamboo Fun (Medium) Black Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics Software
Bamboo Fun (Medium) Blue Tablet with Pen, Mouse & Graphics SoftwareUpon plugging in the device, the mouse worked immediately! The pen also works as a mouse or as a pen/brush for drawing applications.
The mouse is nice because it allows you to free up a USB port if you're using a USB mouse. Power users will need more from a mouse though. If you're anything like me, you prefer a mouse with many more options than this one provides.
Installing the drivers and software allows you to access the settings and tools that make this device versatile and customizable. The Bamboo software also allows you to customize the buttons. Left-handers will greatly appreciate this! Be prepared to spend some time tweaking this unit to your likes.
The software included with this device is a nice to have. Many people who buy this will already have or need full blown Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Elements gives you everything casual users need. The Corel application is nice to play with. But other than a few "macro" type functions I have yet to find anything I can't already do with Adobe. Perhaps newer users may find the Corel product more user-friendly.
Pros
+ USB connection
+ Works on XP and Vista almost plug and play - before software installation
+ Nice customizable software
+ Nice bundled applications - Adobe Elements and Corel Draw
+ No additional power adapter needed
+ Traditional or pen mouse for casual users
+ Small size is perfect for users not using the mouse
Cons
- The scrolling zoom function does not work uniformly on all applications
- The mouse with this model will not suffice for power users
- Default settings require a lot of adjusting for graphics editing
- The tablet would have been ideal with several additional USB ports
Overall, the graphic artist or visual junkie NEEDS one of these. If you are a casual user, it is worth getting one on sale. The small model with pen only will meet most users' needs.
Enjoy.

Kensington 5.0 Expert 4 Button Mouse Review

Kensington 5.0 Expert 4 Button Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own three of these - one for each computer I regularly use. They last forever, and never even need cleaning as they never get jumpy. There is never any slippage, so it works much better than a ball-based mouse for things like Quake where you may want to make fast but precise movements.
There are four buttons which can be programmed to do whatever you want. For example, I set one of the extra buttons to be the back button in my web browser. Now I can move through web sites one-handed without having to move the pointed up over the back button constantly. This also allowed me to switch my IE toolbar to use small icons with no text labels, freeing up screen space.
The only possible suggestion I can come up with is that it would be nice if they added on a scroll-wheel like all the new mice seem to have.
I'll never go back to using regular mice as long as Kensington keeps making these.

DigiPro WP8060 8-Inch x6-Inch USB Graphics Tablet with Cordless Pen (Silver) Review

DigiPro WP8060 8-Inch x6-Inch USB Graphics Tablet with Cordless Pen (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using this tablet for two years now, which I originally bought on ebay. It is beginning to get worn out and may need replacement, so I'm assuming a 2-3 year average life span on this product because I do use it rather often.
This was the first tablet I ever owned; purchased because of the low price, and it has been just fine for me. I use it on a laptop with Windows XP and Photoshop7 and despite a few quirks and occasional minor glitches it functions just fine. I had no trouble with drivers or software.
In using the product I've discovered a few quirks in working with it.
* Pressure sensitivity only works if the device is plugged in before the program you wish to use is started.
* Cannot start the computer with the device plugged in, must plug in after start up is complete.
* Pressure sensitivity can stop if the tablet is left plugged in but unused for too long, although I have not experienced this for a few months now.
* Recently, occasionally the tablet will stop recognizing the pen while working on something, but a quick tap to the keyboard will fix this. May just be a result of being old.
As this is the only tablet I have ever used I cannot compare it to more expensive brands, but I find that it works just fine for me. I use it exclusively for drawing on Photoshop7. Writing functions in Microsoft Word seem to work, but I have only tried once or twice.

Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical Review

Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Mouse technology catches up with PC technology.
I am responsible for order PC equipment for my department. I am constantly asked for a new mouse. The reasons are always the same - it won't roll smooth, it sticks, I have to bang it to work. The traditional mouse uses a ball the runs over an actuator. As the spring wares the actuator shift slightly causing the mouse ball to catch on the corner. With optical there is no mouse ball only a beam of light.
I have ordered every type in every price range with the same results. It is fine for a few months then in the garbage. Ironically, the ones that come with the new IBM Net Vista are the WORST.
I was so impressed with my new optical mouse I immediately order 20 more. It feels very comfortable in your hand. My people liked them so much they ordered them for their home PC's. It has been a month now and no problems. I plan to order an additional 40 more before year end.
The only OS I've tried the optical mouse on is Windows 2000. There is no need to load additional software. We also swap out the mouse while the PC's are running. No need to reboot.

Microsoft has replaced the old-fashioned mouse ball with the Wheel Mouse Optical, featuring an IntelliEye optical sensor to provide smooth and precise motion. Without a mouse ball, there are no moving parts to clean or wear down. The IntelliEye optical sensor is sealed in to keep out the dirt and lint that can cause a traditional mouse to skip or jam.
The Wheel Mouse Optical comes with a scroll wheel for scrolling and zooming. Move through documents by simply rolling the wheel forward or backward instead of clicking on a scroll bar. Use the wheel to see either close-up or big-picture views without having to use menus or toolbars (in compatible applications). The mouse also features an ambidextrous design for comfort. Whether you are left-handed or right-handed, have a large or small hand, the design of the Wheel Mouse Optical feels comfortable.
The Wheel Mouse Optical's IntelliEye optical sensor scans the desktop 6,000 times per second, delivering smooth, precise motion on virtually any surface, even through dirt, dust, and fingerprints. The IntelliEye sensor performs best on surfaces with detail to track. It will not function on surfaces without visible detail (e.g., glass) or surfaces where it will see its reflection (for example, mirrors or glossy surfaces). The sensor may also have difficulty tracking on highly repetitive patterns (for example, some printed photographs from magazines or newspapers).
Microsoft offers a three-year warranty on the Wheel Mouse Optical.

Average Reviews:

Finally, a mouse that does what I want. This mouse has the usual right and left click buttons with a mouse wheel. This wheel not only rolls, it tilts right and left to act like two more buttons and can be pressed down to act like a third button. Then there are the two additional side buttons (e.g. forward and backward). It is called a five button mouse, but it is more like a seven button mouse. I have been unable to find another mouse that does all that this one does, and is reliable and easy to use. The only down side is it is an optical mouse, not a laser mouse, so it is not as precise in its movements as a laser mouse. But with a bit of care and patience, I can still make my one pixel tweaks on artwork.
Caution: this mouse will not perform well unless you get the Dell Mouse Suite software to drive it. The Mouse Suite software lets you configure the buttons to do what you want. I own three of these mice and use them on XP, Vista and Vista 64 bit operating systems without any problems. I found the (free) R140482.EXE Mouse Suite driver download at the Dell web site at:

You no longer get the SBF-96 that is advertised (which would also be a ps/2 mouse, NOT usb). I have the SBF-96 & wanted more. The SBF-96 is an excellent mouse. The mouse they send you is the UAE-96, which is a cheaper lower quality USB mouse. The UAE-96 sells for as little as five dollars. Also, it will NOT work with USB to PS/2 adapters. We already HAD a UAE-96, & it is nothing but problems with freezing for example. This WOULD be a great deal if it was actually the higher quality SBF-96. We sent the first UAE-96 back, & got the SAME for replacements after telling them the return was because of the MODEL they send us. We returned the second set also as they are NOT worth the money being charged (UAE-96) bad.

Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8-Inch Pen Tablet Review

Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8-Inch Pen Tablet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spend about 10 hours a day working in Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and other design related programs including 3D Studio Max. I've been using a Wacom tablet for about six years now, and I love it. It would be impossible for me to create the designs and illustrations that I do without my Wacom. As an artist and designer, I used traditional mediums for years, and then spent another couple of years trying to figure out how to use a mouse in a way that would permit me to create quality images and designs on the computer quickly and in a way that resembled traditional methods. The Wacom tablet has been my solution and the solution of dozens of my colleagues. I use the old Intuos at home, and I use the Intuos 3 at work. The new Intuos features a USB connection that permits hot-swappable, on-the-go design. Also, the new Intuos pens are much more comfortable to hold that the old plastic pens because of the rubber coated grip. The tip on the pen seem much more "springy" and responsive. The pressure sensitivity is amazing and allows me the complete control over the virtual medium that I am handling (airbrush, pencil, ink, paint, etc). Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash are all designed to work with the pressure sensitive pens, and the level of control is amazing. Photoshop's new custom brush palette, combined with the Wacom tablet, permit me to create custom brushes to simulate the appearance of color pencil, pastels, and chalk in such a realistic manner that it's difficult to discern what is real and what is digital. Both of the tablets I own have the 6x8 drawing surface, which I find to be an adequate size for me to accomplish all of my design-work and illustrations. It also is a convenient size to fit into my laptop bag (outer dimensions are about 10"x13"). I absolutely love my Wacom, and I'm ashamed that I didn't place a review for this superior product before now. Several of my coworkers and friends have purchased less expensive versions from competitors, but have regretted the purchase and have switched to Wacom. I was helping a coworker select a Wacom tablet for her desk this morning (as a replacement for another brand) when I decided to write this review for the Wacom tablet. Bottom line for the Wacom 6x8: convenient size, excellent pressure sensitivity, durable construction, excellent value for the price. I would consider this a must-have for any serious digital illustrator or designer.

Logitech TrackMan Marble FX Trackball Review

Logitech TrackMan Marble FX Trackball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Once upon a time I got sick of the gunk build up on all the mice and trackballs I had used, it got to the point where they would bump and jump on the mouse pads. I was intrigued when I saw the technology used in the Trackman line, detecting position using the tiny dots on the ball. Now having used the FX Trackman at home and at work for over 3 years, I find that it is the still the best input device of its kind, including the new MSFT optical mice. Once one gets used to the button placement and develops the dexterity to utilise the trackball, constantly smooth and consistent movement will reward them. With no moving parts for the tracking assembly the user only rarely [once a year?] has to pop the ball out and clean the sensors. This trackball does very well in digital art work with Photoshop and is especially excellent when used to play classic trackball arcade games through Mame32 emulation, Missile Command, Tempest, Centipede, Arkanoid, etc. The tertiary buttons are recognized and used as scroll wheel counterparts in Win2k; it's a nice fluff feature. My only wish would be that Logitech eventually upgrade them to use USB so I can plug them into my MSFT keyboards. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2) Review

Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Logitech Marble Mouse Trackball is possibly THE most intelligently designed pointing device for PCs and Macintosh personal computers. First of all, in spite of its name, it's a trackball, the superior successor to the computer mouse. Unlike a mouse, it sits in one place and your fingers guide the pointer. You click on menu selections, icons and such with your thumb. It takes mere minutes to get used to this method of moving around the screen but after you do, using a mouse will seem cumbersome and quaint (which it is).
Beneath that black-dotted burgundy ball lies the secret of the Marble Mouse's responsiveness, longevity and reliability. An infrared emitter and optical pickup track the movement of the ball, not mechanical rollers which quickly become gunked up with skin oils and dust. You'd have to let a really thick layer of crud accumulate on the ball before you'll see an impact on the Marble Mouse's performance. Small enough to tuck into your notebook, laptop or PowerBook's carrying case, the Marble Mouse is pure computing bliss compared to jittery trackpads, wobbly finger sticks and erratic rollerballs.
PC users running Windows XP and earlier can simply install the PS/2 adapter and plug the Marble Mouse into the PS/2 mouse port without installing any software. With Windows 98 and later, you can pop off the PS/2 adapter and plug the Marble Mouse into a USB port. Macintosh owners running Mac OS 8.6 or higher will need to install MouseWare from the included CD-ROM and disable the Macintosh Mouse control panel in the Mac OS Extension Manager.
Unlike its more expensive TrackMan siblings, the Marble Mouse is fully ambidextrous, with equal-sized buttons on both sides. The included Logitech MouseWare (also downloadable at www.logitech.com) makes the Marble Mouse behave like a 3-button mouse on PCs (you press BOTH buttons together to access the functions of a third button) while giving Macintosh users one-finger, one-click access to content menus (shades of Windows, eh? :) ). Windows users also benefit from the new page up/page down buttons located just above the main buttons.
Finally, though the price might seem steep compared to a $5 mouse you could pick up at Best Buy or CompUSA, recall how many of those cheap little rodents you've owned and thrown away in the course of a single year.

Logitech's Optical Marble mouse gives you the familiarity of a mouse with the convenience of trackball navigation. Designed for comfort in either hand, this space-saving, four-button trackball boasts Logitech's innovative optical tracking system to deliver superior precision and smooth motion with virtually no maintenance or cleaning required. You get two ways to scroll: click two small buttons for page up and page down, or click one of two large buttons and use the ball for auto scrolling. The trackball gives you precise fingertip control, and the included WebWheel software enhances your Internet browsing. I have been using graphics tablets for my art for about 8 years now, and for the price and size this is a very good tablet to get. At first it was a little bit tricky to install on windows XP, but after that it work flawlessly.
For those of you who don't know it isn't limited to widescreen monitors. I have a normal 5:4 ratio monitor and it works good.
There is only one thing that I noticed that most other graphics tablets have, and that it tilt functionality. This basically allows you to tilt the pen to create softer lines. I really never took advantage of this on previous tablets I have owned so this isn't such a big deal for me. But I do know that there are others who use this function. This tablet does not have that.
If someone is intersted in something that I drew with this tablet here is a link. [...]

Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet Review

For as cheap as this little tablet is, it does a GREAT job! I purchased it to have an extra travel one; I have a larger Intuos that is PHENOMENAL (I won't lie, it is much more sensitive and because it is larger it is much, much, much more precise) but the problem is that it is totally unsuitable for a mobile lifestyle. This little cutie works excellent for the things I do on the fly.
Considering that I am a professional digital imaging specialist who uses my tablets constantly, I hope you'll take this advice: for those of you who are weekend enthusiasts or whom are just getting started and perhaps may have never used a tablet before, this is a good one to purchase. It does just fine for most applications and is sensitive enough to do the average things. Once you've totally become addicted to it and know for sure that it suits your needs, maybe then save up and get a larger Intuos.

Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (USB/PS/2) Review

Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman (USB/PS/2)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used Logitech mice before and this one tops all of the ones made by Logitech. I've read many reviews before purchasing this and read some of the drawbacks to this mouse and some advantages to this mouse. Logitech outperformed itself once again, with amazing features, support, and performance.
Disadvantages:
1. The styling of the mouse could have been better designed. It takes a little getting used to using the trackball with fingers other than your thumb.
2. Logitech erred in the device drivers. I repeat, please do not install the drivers shipped with the package. Go to Logitech.com/support and download the 9.75.0 verson and install it, not the 9.60.0 version as it will damage your compatibility with other mice already installed.
3. The price of this mouse will set you back and have you looking elsewhere. But, the advantages of this mouse far outweigh the little-bit-above-customer-expectation price ...
4. This mouse requires a learning curve, as its design and the use of a trackball may not be familiarized with everyone's use. For those of you who have never used a trackball or is used to using a trackball with your thumb, this mouse does take a day or two to get totally used to.
5. Use the initial orientation/setup process seriously. Because of the nature of the styling of this mouse, the way you position the mouse on your desk while orienting/setting up the mouse will have an impact on usage.
Advantages:
1. RF frequency is used to the best capabilities in this mouse. I've used mice from other manufacturers and this one tops all of them. Using digital radio technology, this mouse allows you to place the RF receiver pretty much anywhere you'd like up to 20 feet away from the computer.
2. The many buttons on the mouse help you to minimize use of keyboard. It has Back/Forward, scroll, Drag Lock, Fast Scroll, and conventional buttons.
3. The compact receiver helps to minize clutter on your desktop and helps when you want to carry it and the mouse around (if you're blessed like me to have a laptop).
4. Customer support is one of the best in the industry, with lifetime phone support and a 5-year warranty.
5. Installation was a breeze. a) Download Logitech Drivers version 9.75.0 or above b) Install drivers c) Connect hardware d) Press Connect button on the hardware for 20seconds - 1minute e) You're Done! Enjoy!
6. This mouse comes shipped with a serial port adapter, giving you total flexibility to connect via USB or serial - I strongly recommend using the USB ports due to the advanced nature of the hardware and the reliability of USB ports.
7. The name of Logitech speaks for itself.
All in all, I recommend this product wholeheartedly to you.
If you do purchase one, buy from Amazon.com as they did an excellent job of fulfilling my order the same day.

Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball Mouse 64327 Review

Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball Mouse 64327
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using an Expert mouse for 7 years (and a Turbo Mouse on my Mac before that), but finally the left click button has expired. I decided to give this trackball a try since it was an optical.
It is well made, and has a nice heft. However, I am disappointed for several reasons. First is the ergonomics. The ball is significantly smaller than the Expert Mouse's, which is makes precise control more difficult. But more significantly, the relationship between the trackball and the buttons is poorly done. When I positioned my hand for optimal trackball control, I found it difficult to double-click quickly and would have to move my hand again. The buttons need to be more towards the user's wrists.
But the biggest complaint is the stalling, reported in a previous review. I don't think it's dirt--I think it's the pattern on the trackball. There is a cool pattern of silver and black swirls, except at one spot. This spot is black, patternless area about 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) in diameter, and I think the optical sensor has difficulty in picking up movement in that area. Every time it stalls, I look at the ball and note that this area is over the sensor. Microsoft optical trackballs are completely covered with a dense pattern.
Yes, it is only 1/3 the cost of the Expert Mouse. But all these complaints aren't a reflection of its lower price, but rather, design flaws.

Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser (967558-0403) Review

Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser (967558-0403)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned every top of the line Logitec cordless keyboard/mouse combo's since they began making them.. about 3 years ago. I'm not stating top of the line out of ego but more to let you know that I havent owned the more economical packages they have to offer and cannot comment on how they compare.
The previous version I owned was called the MX700. It was a cordless optical mouse and cordless keyboard that use FM to communicate to a base station/charging station for the mouse. They keyboards all use AA batteries. Funny thing was the first iteration of logitec keyboards took 6 batteries then they learned a little and the newer revisions only took 2.
The MX5000 brings in a few techie changes:
Laser tracking on the mouse
Added bells and whistles to the keyboard
Bluetooth communication and simpler interface to the computer
I just picked this up 4 days ago so I'm not really sure what all the extra stuff on the keyboard is for. But its back up to 4 batteries now. There is an on keyboard LCD display (non-color) that shows its status and other stuff. Lighted sliderbars and media player controls on the left side. This kit is pretty much the top of the line keyboard/mouse setup you can buy today.
Things I like:
Laser mouse tracking seems to have a higher DPI rate (accuracy) over the old MX700
Onboard mouse battery power meter
Bluetooth connection plug is much better than the old ps2/usb connectors.
Updated tilt/scroll mouse, back fwd browser nav thumb buttons.
General functionality of keyboard/mouse can be attained in Windows XP without installing drivers (I hate installing drivers when I dont need to and load my systray with junk programs)
It all just plain looks cool.
Things that kind of bother me but still ok:
The keyboard seems to have a sleep mode thats fairly short. I havent timed it but it seems like 30 seconds to 1 minute. It saves battery life but the fist key you type is delayed around 1/2 a second and you can notice the delay between keypress and when it registeres. Could be a problem if you're playing a game and use more mouse than keyboard.
Rechargeable mouse batteries are no longer easily accessable. On the MX700 version, I had to replace the rechargeable AA batteries after using it for 5 months. With the new battery meter, i can more accurately guess when I need to put the mouse on the charger so I can do a better job of charging (rechargeable batteries die after so many charges).
From the previous sets that I owned, I normally wear the mouse out in about 8 to 9 months and thats with one battery refresh. The keyboards seem to have no issue whatsoever and I never even have to replace the Duracel Alkaline batteries that come with it out of the box. Its always the mouse that I have the problems with. The recharge contacts become corroded. Sometimes the plastic around them gets warped from heat during the charge processess. The plastic guide feet on the bottom all wear completely off. The silver finish on the top of the mouse always wears down to bare black plastic.
Keep in mind though, I use my computer an average of 3500 to 4000 hours a year. So I am very hard on mice.
To sum it all up, I really like this keyboard/mouse combo. I like everything about it except the non-serviceable mouse battery and they short keyboard sleep delay. I think the majority of people that buy this setup, will never run in to the problems I do so you can consider this a 5 star product. Honestly, I dont really use any of the other offerings. I've seen them at the store, but the similiar offering from Microsoft, i hate the way the mouse feels. Actually I really dont like the way anyone elses mice feel. Plus, for cool factor.. Who else makes a laser mouse??? Sure it doesnt have any higher DPI resolution than the next down Logitec optical, but who cares.. Its like sharks with laserbeams!

Kensington Pro Fit USB/PS2 Full Size Wired Mouse (Black) Review

Kensington Pro Fit USB/PS2 Full Size Wired Mouse (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like this better than Apple's mouse. It's larger than most mice, which is more comfortable for me. I usually had to accentuate a right-click on Apple's mouse, and this one I don't. The Apple mouse trackball got quickly dirty and unusable. I never could clean it well enough, as the Genius Bar recommended. This one has a trackball that's larger and gets better traction. I don't expect to ever have a problem with the trackball. Overall, this mouse is very comfortable. It seems to be well-built; however, I've only had it for a month or so. I've worked with computers for almost 20 years and never used a better mouse than this.
