(More customer reviews)This is a great remote for controlling an HTPC. It's not going to replace your TV remote (nor will it even be able to turn on/off your TV), but it lets you control and launch media applications like a pro.
I use an application called "Eventghost" ([...]) to trigger actions based on which buttons I push. This is how I use the remote to launch Mediaportal, for example.
Once inside your application, it has very sane defaults for controlling playback.
It sends 4 or 5 different key combinations with each button push; there is no native software to control that. But paired with Eventghost you have customization, which is a good thing.
Being able to control the mouse as well is also a win. It's kind of slow, but it works just fine and it's great to have that versatility.
There are three different zones on the remote: mouse (bottom), control (middle), playback (top).

I prefer touchpads to mice in that they require less space and are easy for me to use either left or right-handed. Touchpads are a personal thing and I find that people's opinion of them are quite polarized. If you're the type that enjoys using them, then this is a pretty good option. The surface is quite responsive and by clicking up in the right-hand corner, you can easily simulate right-click buttons. The lower horizontal edge and the rightmost vertical edge provide horizontal and vertical scrolling.
If you install the Adesso software, then you can also use the leftmost vertical edge for zooming and the upper edge for back/forward functionality (e.g. can be used for internet browsing). I believe there are a couple of other features that can be customized with the software, but I skipped it altogether and just settled for the mousing action with right-click and scrolling capability. For me, driver software can clutter and complicate a system and the added features aren't important to me (I take the same approach with Logitech and Microsoft keyboards/mice in that I prefer to just use the device without the drivers). If you are looking to use the extra features, make sure you check the vendor website to determine if drivers exist for your OS.
The size of the unit is larger than other similar models from the same maker and to some, it may feel like there's a lot of wasted space. For what it's worth, I also own the "EasyCat" model (Adesso USB EasyCat 2-BTN Touchpad Black Cirque Glidepoint Technology ( GP160U-121 )) which I believe is inferior to the "BrowserCat" for a number of reasons. While the touchpad action between these two units is identical and the smaller size of the "EasyCat" makes it more portable, it's also more difficult to balance on a variety of surfaces than the "BrowserCat" and its buttons are unusable (too hard to click). The "EasyCat" cord placement (right side instead of top side) also limits its ability to be used left-handed without requiring extra space. Finally, this "BrowserCat" unit has a small stand in the back allowing it to be propped at a slight angle (the "EasyCat" does not have this). This stand combined with its size allows me to place the unit squarely over the number keypad on my keyboard (this allows me to sit the keyboard on my lap with easy access to the touchpad without the use of a lapdesk or other surface). All that said, this "BrowserCat" is my standard pointing device at home and the "EasyCat" is my portable device for road use.

(More customer reviews)I have been using graphics tablets for my art for about 8 years now, and for the price and size this is a very good tablet to get. At first it was a little bit tricky to install on windows XP, but after that it work flawlessly.
For those of you who don't know it isn't limited to widescreen monitors. I have a normal 5:4 ratio monitor and it works good.
There is only one thing that I noticed that most other graphics tablets have, and that it tilt functionality. This basically allows you to tilt the pen to create softer lines. I really never took advantage of this on previous tablets I have owned so this isn't such a big deal for me. But I do know that there are others who use this function. This tablet does not have that.

(More customer reviews)The potentially corruptive touch-tapping feature/bug cannot be disabled. This causes unintentional button clicks and possible data loss.
I have contacted Adesso, and they replied that there is no way to disable this behaivior.
Touch-tapping is especially harmful when in a browser or word processing program, where a unintentional click can mean accidental deletes or purchases.
I recommend against purchase of this device, and recommend to Adesso, that this behaiviour be disabled by default, and only enabled via software/driver.

USB 87-Key Mini Keyboard (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)I was very disappointed by this keyboard. First, my computer didn't recognize it, then I noticed the 3.5 inch floppy disk in the box containing the drivers. The last time I owned a computer with a floppy drive was about 5 years ago. There is absolutely no manufacturer's name on the box so no way to visit a website to download a driver. I finally located a computer with a floppy drive, and copied the driver to a USB drive and from there installed it onto my computer. After that all keys worked except the middle row (ASDF;LKJ). So the keyboard is useless. And at 7.99 + 8 for shipping, it's not worth sending back. Just another one for the landfill.
For the record, I bought this from geeks.com through the Amazon website. I live in San Diego, and geeks.com is in Oceanside, about 30 miles up the coast. The product arrived the day after I ordered it. That was the good part of the experience. It was downhill from there.

(More customer reviews)This keyboard is rediculously small. Take a sheet of notebook paper, fold it in half, and you have the footprint of this keyboard. It is nearly perfect for where I'm using it. I needed a keyboard for my CarPC. The CarPC touch screen is handy, but a wireless keyboard with a built in mouse is more effective for other tasks including entering navigation directions and or accessing the computer BIOS.
The keyboard is a QWERTY style keyboard with all the keys where you'd expect them. The layout is very similar to that of a laptop keyboard. There's a small inverted T cursor tree for navigation that really helps. There is a full compliment of function keys as well as the specialized windows key. The trackball is a great addition, but it is a little hypersensetive, so dial back the sensetivity in Windows to make the mouse more controllable.
PROS

1. Small size for use in areas / situations with limited stowing options (CarPC)
2. Built in trackball mouse for navigation.
3. Wireless RF connection, doesn't require line of sight to work. 10' ft range.
4. The USB RF adaptor fits securely into the keyboard base, so it won't get lost.
CONS
----
1. The trackball ball doesn't fit firmly in its holder, so the movement isn't quite as smooth as it could be.
2. The keys are quite small if you have large hands like me (6'2", 250lb), but it is better than the Logitech Dinovo Mini.
3. Pricey. While it is nearly half the price of a Dinovo Mini, it is still pricey for a nitch item.
4. No dedicated on/off button which could save battery life.
OTHER

A tweak to the keyboard layout could have made the keyboard smaller and the keys larger. Too bad they didn't place the trackball in the upper right corner and the mouse buttons in the upper left corner like on Microsoft and Adesso wireless media keyboards I own. There is quite a bit of wasted space in the curent design.
All in all, this is an excellent solution for people with specific needs, like my CarPC. I can simple store the keyboard in my door pocket and pull it out when either myself or my passenger(s) need to use it.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this keypad for the purpose of gaming and performing live electronic music, not data entry.
It just arrived today, I opened the box, plugged it in and popped up metapad to try it out. So far, I'm quite pleased. However, the pressure required to press the keys is about four times what is needed on a normal laptop keyboard, and about twice what is needed on my klunky, classic desktop keyboard.
That said, I still love it. I wouldn't want to spend 2 hours punching numbers into a spreadsheet with it, but I'm confident it will perform quite well for my intended purposes. But, I am hoping that it breaks in a bit with use. Also, the flat, ribbon style, retracting cable works like a charm, and it's exactly the size and weight I'd hoped (I'll post a customer picture soon).
This thing is going to be great plugged into my laptop at shows, and I'm looking forward to playing my favorite space sim with a joystick in each hand and this thing just in reach without a full keyboard in the way. =D

Adesso Mini Multimedia Black PS/2 Internet Keyboard ( MCK-91 ) Review

(More customer reviews)In my search for a replacement keyboard for a old vaio laptop I once used, I'd tried both zippy keyboards and now adesso. The MCK-901 (similar to this one) is also close to what I want, but all the keyboards I've used lack something. The primary problem with the zippy was the spacebar height, which is a similar problem with this keyboard. The height of he spacebar forces you to type at a tilt (towards you) in order to press the spacebar. I guess I'll just glue something on top of the spacebar to fix that...
The major problem with this keyboard is the forced tilt. Most keyboards can both lay flat or tilt. This one can tilt and then tilt even higher. There's no laying flat. Using a tilted keyboard only increases the stress on your hands and wrists when typing. Other than those problems, it's a pretty solid keyboard.
The software footprint mentioned by the previous reviewers isn't a problem. Just forego the software and only load the driver.
If I cut out part of the front border (in front of the spacebar and laid only the front bottom on top of a second surface to raise it up, this keyboard would be nearer to the mark. Except for the rather tiny function keys, I've nearly no problem with the key setup.

Although I have the USB RF receiver in the front USB port, I am able to type and mouse as if it were a wired keyboard/mouse even from my kitchen 25 feet away. This is the best purchase I've made for my entertainment center. I love the trackball on the right and the scrollwheel under the left trigger spot. My only complaint is that the RF times out after a short while (5m perhaps), but it comes on with any keystroke (and it still registers that keystroke). When I need to use the mouse, I just hit the shift key and it functions again. This is probably a good feature because it should be saving battery life. I've been using the same batteries for three months and have not had to re-register the keyboard to the USB receiver.

1. Don't forget to hit a key twice (recommend SHIFT) to wake it up.
2. If you are dropping keys or have choppy mouse movements:
A. Try swapping with known good batteries.
B. Reposition the USB adapter. I got much better range by using an USB extension cable to relocate the adapter. Just moving the adapter six inches away from the computer case made all the difference. It eliminated keyboard dead zones.
C. Avoid wireless conflicts between the keyboard and wireless router by locking your router to a different wireless channel. Try channel 11. I found lower channels would conflict with the unit. Conflict issue is indicated by choppy mouse movements coinciding with wireless activity. Possibly wireless phones or microwaves could interfere too.
D. Switch wireless router's operating modes away from 802.11b. Try 802.11g-only or 802.11n-only if possible. I was able to more channels wireless router channels when I changed modes.
E. If shortcut keys ( Alt- ) aren't working, it's because num-lock is on. I prefer to set the BIOS to turn off num-lock when booting.
F. 802.11 wireless activity will interfere with operation. Look for ways to reduce 802.11 activity.
G. Best to have a clear line of sight between keyboard and USB adapter. A couch's back or a body can greatly weaken the signal.
3. If the unit is dead, you may have accidentally pushed the USB adapter's tiny "sw" button. It's used to pair with your keyboard. Re-pair by pushing sw again and pressing keyboard's FN key within 15 seconds.
Thanks to the myriad of reviews, product works exactly as expected. Yes, it works well with Vista without drivers. Yes, it makes a great HTPC wireless keyboard. Yes, it has a flimsy feel. Yes, its a bit too expensive and needs competition.
I'm using a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Router. Excellent device. Recommended.
