(More customer reviews)Sleek, silver and glowing - I have this space-age thing on my desk that delights me. It's improved the position of my hand so that my CTS has ebbed, though I still need a wrist rest and frequent breaks. All the buttons, including the wheel button, are programmable, bringing the total of moving gizmos to 5 buttons a trackball and a wheel. This alone is reason to fiddle endlessly with it, trying to come up with the best combination of programming to suit the natural play of your hand. If anything, there are too many possible combinations of function, and you may spend a week or more playing with this puppy before you find a workable group of settings.
The functions are smooth, and reasonably reliable, depending on the position your hand takes. I find the left-hand buttons difficult to hit correctly with my thumb, thanks to some nerve damage so I reprogrammed them until I found a way that was comfortable for me to work. I strongly suggest you do the same.
If you're running Win XP, you'll have to d/l the newest Intellipoint drivers, but that's not a big deal. Installation is a snap with Plug 'n' Play.
I never thought I'd find anything that pleased me as much as my old Logitech trackball, but I have to say that I think this one might do it. Time will tell. But right from the start, I found it worth the investment.

Evoluent Vertical Mouse Optical Review

(More customer reviews)There's no doubt that the idea of a mouse oriented in this is a good idea, and helped with a lot of shoulder and arm pain I was having.
But I've had nothing but problems with this thing. After about a month of use, it started to behave erratically. The page scrolls up when I'm scrolling the wheel down (but only sometimes), or I roll just one little tick on the wheel and the page jumps to the bottom. I thought the wheel perhaps needed cleaning, but there is no way to open the mouse, no screws, no obvious place where it could be pried open without breaking it.
The most recent problem is that the mouse turns itself off after about 30 seconds (but only sometimes) -- and I mean completely off. The only way to get it to work is to unplug it from the USB port and plug it back in, which I am now doing at least a dozen times a day.
All of this would be fine if the company offered to replace it, or at least offered some decent technical support. But they are really missing in action here. E-mails go unanswered. A phone call put me into voice mail which was never returned. Obviously the other reviewers here really like this mouse, and I would too, if mine worked.
Buy it if you want, and hope you get one of the good ones.

My last mouse was a Microsoft Intellimouse, so I was looking for side buttons for back and forward. There is no software to load, so that is nice, except the back/forward buttons seem reversed to me and there is no easy way to change them. I have read about a driver that can be download from the web, but I found it easier to just live with the buttons the way they are...I actually like the back button up top, since its easier to hit and used 10x more than the forward button.

Razer DeathAdder - Gaming Mouse Left Hand Edition Review

(More customer reviews)This is the upgraded version of the Razer DeathAdder. 3500 DPI instead of 1800 DPI. This is the main difference, although I believe the newer version has a gold plated USB connector and obviously different drivers for each model. Either way both models are identical in physical shape.
The arc of the mouse is by far the most comfortable I've ever used, in that it actually follows the curve of one's hand how it instinctively would grab a mouse. It is also a right handed mouse, sorry southpaws, which adds to the comfort and control of the mouse. I can't say I know what the mouse grip is made out of, but it is completely slip resistant and oil resistant/absorbent. The sides of the mouse are a hard plastic and between the teflon feet and light weight of the mouse there is almost no resistance to movement.
I upgraded from a Logitech Revolution wireless mouse and wireless mice, while convenient, can't compete with the accuracy and precision that a wired mouse provides. My old wireless mouse would lag and skip across the screen and often when closing a program it would accidentally close the window behind it as well, which I never quite figured out why it did that (I'm guessing radio interference?). With the DeathAdder, I have not had that problem once and every click I make is exactly where I expect it to be.
I played with a Logitech G9 and MX518 as well as the Razer Salmosa, which all felt like solid and accurate mice, but they lacked the feel the DeathAdder has. The technical specs are important, but it doesn't really matter how accurate a mouse is if it still isn't comfortable to use. In short, I'm pretty happy I went this way. However, the Razer Salmosa was a close second, but it just seemed like a simple version of the original 3G DeathAdder.
As for gaming I haven't had a whole lot of chances to test it out yet. I've played a bit of Left for Dead with it and after some getting used to and tweaking the settings (independent X and Y sensitivity, button assignemnt, acceleration, etc.) it is way easier to shoot hoards of zombies in the head. I also have played a bit of Fallout, and while the mouse is definately smoother, I can't say it has affected gameplay all that much. I've tried this mouse on my desktop and laptop (Vista and 7 respectively) and both operating systems seem to run the Razer software perfectly fine. Windows recognized the mouse immediately and it works fine with the windows drivers, but I highly recommend downloading the latest Razer drivers for maximum performance. The level of adjustment this mouse offers is wasted otherwise.
Other thoughts:
The blue lights on the mouse wheel and the glowing DeathAdder logo are pretty cool. I can see them becoming annoying after a while, but they are easy enough to turn off in the settings.
The DPI and Polling rates can be lowered from the 3500DPI and 1000ms if desired, but I only notice a decrease in accuracy and performance so I'm not sure why you would.
My only real complaint is the "On-The-Fly" sensitivity switch is on the bottom of the mouse. I'm not sure how on the fly that is if I'm playing a game, which is the only time I would need to use that feature. Ultimately, it's not that big of a deal, but it is kind of false advertising in my opinion.
I can't stress enough how form fitting this mouse is, not to mention that is looks pretty cool at the same time. Something about it just feels "right." Granted it took me a couple days to get used to it, but now I don't think I could go back. If you already have a Logitech G9 (or something similar) I can't say I'd tell you to go replace it right now, but if you are looking for an upgrade this is the way to go.

Kensington Slimblade Trackball USB 2.0 for PC and Mac, K72327US Review

The pointer sensitivity is much improved, though still not as good as the pointer sensitivity module found in the venerable MouseWorks software.
On the other hand, the ability to customize the four buttons of the Slimblade Trackball is a welcome (and much needed) improvement. This device should have shipped with this software.
The advent of programmable buttons places the Slimblade Trackball in a category of its own. It surpasses by a wide margin the ergonomics and aesthetics of the Expert Mouse. The scrolling function is superb, a perfect complement to a trackpad device. I am surprised by how much the Slimblade Trackball just "disappears" while I am working with it.
My only complaint is that the buttons are sometimes too sensitive, something that can be avoided by adjusting how much resting pressure one places on the device's surface.
Those of us looking for an attractive and elegant multifunction pointing device need look no further. The Slimblade Trackball now has software worthy of its stunning good looks.

UPDATE (9 March 2009): After 4 days of continuous use. I am packing it in and reverting back to the Expert Mouse. If one needs either precise cursor control, programmable buttons or application-sensitive behavior, the Slimblade Trackball is unusable with the supplied software.
I've been using trackballs (mainly Kensington) since 1993 and am no stranger to change. This trackball simply was not designed with an expert user in mind, and I hope those who read my review will consider that it is written from this perspective. It is meant to inform professionals and expert users whose software and hardware demands are unusually high.
If you are an expert user who needs a pointing device to be application-aware, or if you need high-precision cursor control, this device is not one you should consider.
Tempting as this device may be for people frustrated with the terrible hardware design of the Expert Mouse, the Slimblade Trackball cannot replace the Expert Mouse.
============
The Slimblade Trackball is really a missed opportunity for Kensington. This device has so much potential but the software limitations make this device just barely usable.
The two major components of the Slimblade Trackball are the hardware design and the software affordances. Let's start with the good.
THE HARDWARE
==========
In order to understand what is amazing about the Kensington Slimblade Trackball, one should be aware of the last redesign of the Expert Mouse. That design is quite horrendous. The steep angle of the plastic housing strained the wrist tendons so badly that the device shipped with a faux leather pad that attached to the trackball to elevate the wrist. Besides being ugly, the pad kludge didn't work very well. Strained wrists are a common symptom among users of the Expert Mouse Trackball.
The Slimblade Trackball rectifies this situation. Big Time.
The low profile of the trackball housing is not only aesthetically pleasing, it also allows users to use the device with hand and wrist only moderately angled. The ball rolls smoothly (though it is an ugly color) and the buttons are very sleek as they are cut out of the housing. Clicks are unfortunately hollow-sounding, but the tactile response is superb, the buttons requiring a firm but shallow press for activation. The new device is a pleasure to handle physically.
The engineering of the trackball well is clever. Plastic bearings similar to those in the Expert Mouse Trackball keep the ball gliding smoothly, with the difference that these bearings are sealed in their sockets with only a portion of the bearing visible. The holes which contain the electronics that register ball movement do not appear to emit light. When the ball is rotated around its Y-axis (running through the top and bottom of the device), the electronics make an audible clicking noise. Think iPod scrollwheel sound. The faint sound could be a problem in quiet office environments, especially for users who do quite a bit of scrolling or zooming.
In all, the hardware of the device is excellent. The thought and care which went into the engineering shows, and if look and feel were all that mattered, Kensington would have produced a pointing device worthy of admiration and celebration.
Unfortunately for Kensington, there's also the bad and the ugly. Namely . . .
THE SOFTWARE
==========
(I'm testing the Slimblade Trackball software on a PowerMac G5 2 x 2.5 GHz running Mac OS X v. 10.5.6. Windows users may have an experience different than mine.)
First off, I want to say that the software seems also to have received quite a bit of attention from the designers at Kensington. Unfortunately, what those designers produced seems to be the victim of poor market analysis.
Some Slimblade Trackball users have forgiven Kensington for omitting the ability to program the buttons. I am not one of these users. The inability to reprogram the buttons is arrogance at its worst. When Steve Jobs and Jon Ives give users an extra-strength dose of designerly arrogance, they often succeed in curing ailments users didn't even realize they had (hockey puck mouse excepted). I'm here to assure you that the software designers at Kensington are neither Steve Jobs nor Jon Ives.
At all.
First, the drivers for the Slimblade Trackball do not have any user-accessible interface. Period. OK, that's not entirely true. The installer places a pointer-shaped item in the menubar. Clicking on that item reveals two items. 1) A dimmed line reporting that the Kensington Slimblade Trackball is active, and 2) a link to Kensington's online tutorial. As we all know (as of 5 March 2009), that online tutorial is not yet available. So, the link sends users to the promotional microsite for the Slimblade Trackball as if advertising will convince them that nothing's wrong. I suppose one can navigate one's way to the sparse FAQ which contains 8 items as of this writing.
If you can't read the sign that says Things are Not Good(tm) then look over yonder. Yup. That's the milestone for Here Comes Ugly(tm)
THE UGLY
======
Users not only cannot program the device's buttons, but they also cannot customize the speed and acceleration of the device outside of the operating system software provided by Apple or a piece of third-party software.* This is a problem of gargantuan proportions and has been documented at length in this TidBITS article: [...].
I have a 23" Cinema Display and a 17" Studio Display hooked together in a single extended desktop. I need my pointing device tracking to be set high. Setting the mouse tracking to high is possible with Apple's "Keyboard & Mouse" System Preference. The problem comes when moving the device slowly, as one might do when selecting text. The differences in slow and fast cursor tracking in Apple's Keyboard & Mouse System Preference settings render the Slimblade trackball practically unusable on medium-to-large desktops.
By removing the ability of users to customize slow and fast tracking speed--something that the Expert Mouse Trackball software does provide--Kensington has effectively turned what should have been a magnificent product into something only a mother could love, or at least a committee of marketroids who got their way over the tearful objections of old-skool Kensington software devs. Don't worry devs, having bought this device I feel your pain and then some.
At present, Kensington has no plans to offer programmable buttons for this device. One can only hope future software releases will enable users to customize the acceleration settings for the Slimblade Trackball just as users of the Expert Mouse Trackball are able to customize their settings.
CONCLUSION
========
The hardware engineers at Kensington deserve raises and your first-born. This is a beautiful device.
On the other hand, the managers of the software design team should have their computers confiscated and other really awful things like getting raisins for dessert.
The Kensington Slimblade Trackball is like a gorgeous date with a bland personality. You don't mind hanging out awhile but you hope something better will come along soon.
* My limited testing of USB Overdrive as a third-party driver has been unable to access the media buttons (the upper ones) at all, suggesting to me that the upper buttons are not regular mouse buttons at all.

First of all, in spite of its name, it's a trackball, the superior successor to the computer mouse. Unlike a mouse, it sits in one place and your fingers guide the pointer. You click on menu selections, icons and such with your thumb. It takes mere minutes to get used to this method of moving around the screen but after you do, using a mouse will seem cumbersome and quaint (which it is).
Beneath that black-dotted burgundy ball lies the secret of the Marble Mouse's responsiveness, longevity and reliability. An infrared emitter and optical pickup track the movement of the ball, not mechanical rollers which quickly become gunked up with skin oils and dust. You'd have to let a really thick layer of crud accumulate on the ball before you'll see an impact on the Marble Mouse's performance. Small enough to tuck into your notebook, laptop or PowerBook's carrying case, the Marble Mouse is pure computing bliss compared to jittery trackpads, wobbly finger sticks and erratic rollerballs.
PC users running Windows XP and earlier can simply install the PS/2 adapter and plug the Marble Mouse into the PS/2 mouse port without installing any software. With Windows 98 and later, you can pop off the PS/2 adapter and plug the Marble Mouse into a USB port. Macintosh owners running Mac OS 8.6 or higher will need to install MouseWare from the included CD-ROM and disable the Macintosh Mouse control panel in the Mac OS Extension Manager.
Unlike its more expensive TrackMan siblings, the Marble Mouse is fully ambidextrous, with equal-sized buttons on both sides. I prefer touchpads to mice in that they require less space and are easy for me to use either left or right-handed. Touchpads are a personal thing and I find that people's opinion of them are quite polarized. If you're the type that enjoys using them, then this is a pretty good option. The surface is quite responsive and by clicking up in the right-hand corner, you can easily simulate right-click buttons. The lower horizontal edge and the rightmost vertical edge provide horizontal and vertical scrolling.
If you install the Adesso software, then you can also use the leftmost vertical edge for zooming and the upper edge for back/forward functionality (e.g. can be used for internet browsing). I believe there are a couple of other features that can be customized with the software, but I skipped it altogether and just settled for the mousing action with right-click and scrolling capability. For me, driver software can clutter and complicate a system and the added features aren't important to me (I take the same approach with Logitech and Microsoft keyboards/mice in that I prefer to just use the device without the drivers). If you are looking to use the extra features, make sure you check the vendor website to determine if drivers exist for your OS.
The size of the unit is larger than other similar models from the same maker and to some, it may feel like there's a lot of wasted space. For what it's worth, I also own the "EasyCat" model (Adesso USB EasyCat 2-BTN Touchpad Black Cirque Glidepoint Technology ( GP160U-121 )) which I believe is inferior to the "BrowserCat" for a number of reasons. While the touchpad action between these two units is identical and the smaller size of the "EasyCat" makes it more portable, it's also more difficult to balance on a variety of surfaces than the "BrowserCat" and its buttons are unusable (too hard to click). The "EasyCat" cord placement (right side instead of top side) also limits its ability to be used left-handed without requiring extra space. Finally, this "BrowserCat" unit has a small stand in the back allowing it to be propped at a slight angle (the "EasyCat" does not have this). This stand combined with its size allows me to place the unit squarely over the number keypad on my keyboard (this allows me to sit the keyboard on my lap with easy access to the touchpad without the use of a lapdesk or other surface). All that said, this "BrowserCat" is my standard pointing device at home and the "EasyCat" is my portable device for road use.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this 3M Ergonomic mouse and the Evoluent Vertical Mouse2 at the same time to compare.
I really enjoyed the feel of the 3M mouse, but it is limited in what it can do. I need to scroll often with my kind of work. The 3M mouse does not have a scroll wheel it has a scroll button. When you push the scroll button, you then have to physically move the mouse up and down to scroll.
The Evoluent Vertical Mouse2 is pretty comfortable. It seems a bit light at times, so it takes a while to get used to it. I really enjoy the scroll wheel and the 5 programmable buttons; Left, Right, Middle, Wheel button (for your fingers) and a Back button (by the thumb) and the scroll wheel. Of course you can program each one to do what you want. You might want to visit Evoluent's web site to get the most up to date driver.
Although the 3M is slightly more comfortable then the Vertical Mouse2, with my type of work I need the functionality of the Evoluent Vertical Mouse2. If 3M had a scroll wheel I probably would have kept it, but I'm going to stick with the Evoluent Vertical Mouse2.

I thought the reports of keys not working was confined to a few of these keyboards and that the other user had gotten unlucky. After all this is Samsung product, not some keyboard made by some little no-name company. Now I see that the keyboard failures are either due to a design defect or the result of terrible quality control. I needed a small PS/2 keyboard without media keys for extensive writing and this seemed to fit the bill. It is nice and small for a full sized keyboard, it is very inexpensive, and it looks good. However it simply doesn't work. On mine, the F and Del would not work and the space bar fell off after about 10 minutes of use. Make sure to skip this product. I just purchased a Microsoft wired keyboard and I'm returning this.

(More customer reviews)I am a bit of a mouse junkie, I have purchased about 10 mice/trackball in the last 2 years. I am in search of the best and most usable mouse for work. I am on the computer 12+ hours a day most of the week.
I will rank this mouse a close #1 for these:
1. Very lite, easy to move.
2. Excellent angle, not as upright as the "Evoluent VM3R2-RSB Vertical Mouse 3" which I also have in my arsenal of mouse.
3. The back and forward buttons are easily reachable with the thumb.
4. Easy to click.
5. Thumb area has a hook area where your thumb can sit which the Evoluent doesn't have is a great plus+
6. The mouse look nice, perfect blend of shiny and dull rubbery areas for better control.
7. Overall feeling of my hand and arm don't feel tired after a full days use, that is very important to me.
The mouse feels like it should be held with a full palm, but my hand is too big and misses the buttons, therefore this is the only downside, I have found a position that is comfortable and doesn't set the side of my hand scraping the desk (like the Evoluent did).
One note: This is my true #1 input device: Kensington Turboring which has been discontinued & mine broke is the best trackball I have used. I wish Kensington made it again. My thumb was rarely used which I believe can cause most of the strain on the hand and arm.
UPDATE: After 1 year of use, the mouse is still my daily driver. I tried a different mouse (3M Ergo which was a fail). The mouse still works great, the only downside after 1 year of use is the scroll wheel now makes a squeaking sound when used, not unbearable but can get annoying if the room is quiet.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this keyboard on Amazon about 2 months ago for my new HP computer. I loved it so much that I purchased another one for work.
After purchasing the 1st keyboard, for research purposes, I went into an office supply store and tried all of the keyboards to see if there was another one that I liked better. I tested about 20 keyboards and could not find one that I liked the feel of better (of course this is a personal preference). I purchased a second one of the same keyboard for the office.
I have had no connectivity issues with this keyboard or mouse.
One keyboard is being used in a business environment with WinXP. The other keyboard (the one I am currently typing on) is connected to my new Vista computer at home. I have had no trouble with either.
Hint: I have attached the wireless transmitter/receiver to the base of my monitor with Velcro. Wherever the monitor is I automatically get a strong signal from the keyboard and mouse.
The keyboard is usually about 12-18" from the transmitter. The mouse is usually about 24-36". I have never had signal problems with either keyboard.

Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser to replace my Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 (which I'd come to loathe). With the hardware, I'm very satisfied. The keyboard is a nice ergonomic version which I'd grown used to from my long-ago Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro. It's got a nice typing feel (not too hard, not too soft) and I've had no problems with it (the keyboard in the Microsoft Desktop 6000 dropped keystrokes). The only negatives I can come up with for the keyboard are that the space bar makes a bit of a clanking sound (which I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't read about it here) and the palm rest does show the location of your hands from the oil residue (trivial really). The mouse is very comfortable and I've had no problems with it at all.
Where I have had problems is with the Logitech Setpoint 3.3 software. I'm using Vista, so since it's so new, that might be the issue (though the Logitech forums indicate the XP version has similar problems). In my case, even though the software loaded without trouble, I sometimes couldn't open the Setpoint program. It would basically hang when I attempted it. I also was getting no mouse status from the Logitech icon (keyboard status, yes -- mouse status, no). The forums indicate there's also a problem with the Secure Connect hotkey of CTRL-SHIFT (it conflicts with quite a few important keystrokes in Vista and applications) and with multiple keystrokes generating spurious letters. Because Setpoint was hanging on my system, I just uninstalled it and am running on the native Vista drivers (again, without problem). Without Setpoint, I'm lacking some features. But, I rarely use those things, anyway.
So, overall, I give the hardware an Excellent rating of 5 stars out of 5. However, because of the problems with the Setpoint 3.3 software, I'm subtracting 1 star. Still, that leaves an overall Very Good rating of 4 stars out of 5. Recommended.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro v2.0 Review

(More customer reviews)Over the last 2-3 few years, I've used no less than 4 different keyboards and more than 8 different mice. As a programmer, I spend hours (10+) each day typing on the computer and then even more time after hours playing computer games. As such, the quest for a comfortable keyboard/mouse has been a long one; it has become my quest for the "Holy Grail" of comfort.
I have to say that I am impressed with thie setup. The mouse is one of the most comfortable ones that I've EVER used. The keyboard is soft, tactile, and well laid out (spacing + key size). Both components operate without the slightest hint of lag, which is one big turn off I had in my previous experiences with wireless input devices. As far as the materials quality, both components feel top notch. While the keyboard squeaks a bit when you torque it, the plastics are certainly of high quality and the design is clean and functional (lots of handy quick launch buttons, all well laid out and labeled).
Setup was a breeze. I was somewhat concerned as it appeared that I would have to use PS/2 to connect the keyboard while my laptop does not have a PS/2 board. However, the base station only needs to be connected via one USB port for both keyboard and mouse. And if you are using the USB interface with a newer O/S, this setup is completely plug and play with no need for any driver installation (for basic features). Some of the advanced features (like the horizontal scroll) require driver installation.
So far as battery life is concerned, I can't comment at this time. But hopefully will be on par with similar models (Logitech at work has been on same battery for 3+ months now).
So give this keyboard a shot if you've been waiting on the technology to catch up with the concept, if you've been having pain with other keyboard/mouse setups, or if you just want a cool looking wireless setup.
------UPDATE-------
Since I've gotten this set in October (mid March now), I've been on the same set of batteries for the keyboard and I've changed batteries once for the mouse. Keep in mind that this is with regular 10+ hours of use a day.
I've had some issues with the signal intering with other wireless devices (it's either my cell phone, cordless phone, or the router). This will cause the keyboard and mouse (mostly mouse) to act quirky. However, this can be resolved by 1) creating more space between your workspace and the suspect interering item and 2) hit the connect button on the base station and then on the mouse (usually the mouse goes quirky) a few times and it'll usually correct itself.
Other than that, I have to say that I am still extremely satisfied with my purchase. Extremely comfortable! Cramping and pain in my hands have been reduced drastically since using this set. It's hard to believe that, before I got this set, I was feeling numbness and twitching in my right hand...still some pain now (you can't help it with 10+ hours on the computer), but it's much, much better.

(More customer reviews)Almost every day I work for hours using a Computer Aided Design program, and over the years have found the Kensington Expert Trackball to be an indispensible labor (and arm) saving device. You get so much with so little movement! I was looking to buy a new one.
I had misgivings about this product after reading some "Worse than Bad" reviews that were in this forum. Still, either because hope springs eternal or a fool and his money are soon parted, I went ahead and ordered one.
Out of the box ball rotation was _The Worst_ as others had said. I had deadlines, however, so decided to use it to see if anything would improve. Two hours later it had "broken in".
Trackball Wizards, my number five is on the trophy shelf. The Seven is AAMMAAZZIINNGG. Totally silent movement; virtually frictionless rotation; excellent functionality, and it has GOT to have one of the most eloquent designs of any input device on the market.
As an added bonus the scroll ring beats any scroll wheel I have used, anywhere.
Congratulations to Kensington for creating a truly superior product.

The relief in pressure on your wrist is instant. The cost may seem high, but it's less than a chiropractic appointment. Comes in 2 different sizes (small/medium and medium/large). This is a RIGHT handed mouse. You can program the left/right clicks if you are left handed, but the "joystick" is angled, so it's not as wonderful if you are a lefty.
Added note: The above review was written 2 years ago. It has been 3 years that I have been using this mouse. My wrist pain is completely gone. This mouse is so worth it. That being said, it is a P.O.S. as others have mentioned: the mouse does not travel well (it breaks if not protected in your computer bag) and breaks when dropped on hard surfaces -- I put a carpet under my desk and bought a glue gun to cut down on mouse costs. After gluing them back together, 3 have acquired the "double click" disease. Even with these drawback, I still feel that this mouse is worth it. I have purchased 8 over the past 3 years - I now keep one at work, one on my desk at home, and a "floater" for my home laptop that moves from room to room but does not leave the house unless carefully wrapped in it's original box. For "daily travel", because the 3M mouse has helped my wrist heal, I am now able to use a regular mouse, so I now keep a regular mouse in my backpack.

Samsung Q1/Q1 Ultra External USB Keyboard Review

(More customer reviews)First of all; ignore the complaints about the price, and how you can get a similar keyboard for $20. You can't.
This keyboard is a "normal" keyboard AND trackpoint mouse in one. It's the perfect size for the Q1, it's nice and thin and the keys are the right size for a decent amount of typing.
In addition to the normal keyboard layout, you also get shortcuts to some of the features of the Q1 and Q1 ultra like brightness and volume.
The trackpoint mouse is great and you have 2 mouse buttons under the spacebar.
It's almost a "must have" if you have a Q1 (ultra). It would have been perfect (5 stars) if it were wireless, it's just another way Samsung made their line of UMPC's more affordable.

I still miss my old IBM model M (everyone's favorite keyboard) though it has long since been obsolete (no USB, too loud, too heavy, by today's standards, tho it had the best key-feel and feedback of any keyboard ever made). I havent been happy with any of the new keyboards since 1986! ;) Until now, that is.
I initially went shopping for a Logitech Dinovo (or the S510, which is similar). After trying them out I decided against, since they were too similar to my toshiba laptop keyboard and I was looking for something less cramped.
I came across this one at the store and liked it right away. For me it has the right balance of key-stroke depth and key-spacing. I feel it has just about all the 'positive feedback' and 'feel' as the old IBM M model. Now, you may ask: this keyboard is whisper-quiet and 'soft', while the M model was loud and clackety-clack-hard. How can they be compared? They can be compared in terms of the 'confidence' with which one can type on them, the equivalent typing speeds and error-free typing that both can produce. In my case, I type as well - fast and error free - on this keyboard as I ever did on the model M.
It inspires typing-confidence.
The keys feel substantive under your fingers, meaning you are always sure where you're finger is going. The tactile feedback is quite positive, though it has been described as 'soft'; I think 'bouncy' might be a better word. (Like the old model M, remember?) I think what makes the tactile feedback so nice is that I not only immediately know when a key has 'registered' after I press it, but I also immediately know when my finger has left that key. There's a little 'push'. So I almost never hit two keys at once, or hit a key out of sequence. My fingers fly across it - without the clackety clack, but with as much confidence.
The rest of the stuff on the keyboard are luxuries, and nice ones - the zoom slider, the media and volume controls, and the 'favorites' buttons etc which I have mapped to my favorite applications. I'm sure I will use them. I especially like the 'calculator' shortcut key over the number pad. Its like having a built in calculator since it pops up immediately.
The setup for personalizing the keys is very easy and intuitive. You should update the software to the latest version (in my case the CD was version 5.2 but there was a 5.5 update at microsoft.com/hardware.
If you do a lot of work in front of the computer, you cant get a better keyboard than this in terms of substantive luxury and feel for a fraction of the price of most other keyboards. Other keyboards may be wireless, or sleeker looking, but dont get fooled. For just over 20 bucks you can get a keyboard that will truly make your job easier, connect reliably, and make your fingers fly with confidence.
In sum: Typing comfort is a very subjective thing, but go try it out in a store if you can. Typing on this thing is like driving a go-kart: point and shoot. Feels like a Lexus, priced like a Honda.
