(More customer reviews)I've been looking for desktop set to use with my laptop. I was thinking of an ordinary corded keyboard/mouse, RF or Bluetooth set. But with the attractive price of this MX3000 set, this is so tempting.
Connection:
This is not a Bluetooth so RF receiver is surely bigger than thumb-drive size, yet stylish design with 3 LEDs indicating cap lock, num lock and F-keys enhancement feature. Size of the receiver is not a big matter, you won't tend to carry laptop and keyboard around the house all the time anyway. Range?? I found that key board works best up to 4 feet before it fades at 5 feet. Mouse seems to work very well up to 8 feet before curser jumps around. But with this little laptop, 2 feet is far enough to see the screen. If you are not hooking the laptop up with on-the-wall huge plasma screen, you won't need farther range anyway.
Keyboard:
Nice, quiet, very solid build, plus `through holes' which implies that you could spill some coffee in and it will drain down its back. So many buttons with useful default shortcuts like zoom, scroll, side scroll, messenger, full-feature media control and many more. Don't like it? Reassign the function or disable it. Media control also works with freeware like WinAmp too. This is cool. Secured connection encrypts your data, this give you worry-free. I never have problem of echoing characters or lose control of the keys so far. Sleep mode does NOT delay the keyboard at all.
Mouse:
Nice MX600! It uses invisible infrared instead of red light but with the invisible intensity, you shouldn't look into its image sensor anyway. Mouse has about 20secs sleep timeout. There is less than half a second lag before it is reactivated. 60% of the time that scroll wheel can't reactivate it after a sleep. I personally thing this mouse has less accuracy than MS510 as I also own it too. But I'm not into a game business so this is still in a high satisfaction level.
Other things:
Very easy installation and device setup, very nice user interface. I found some bugs though... Many times I use zoom feature on the keyboard with MS Excel, it gets the runtime error when I close Excel program. It doesn't show up during the use and it doesn't give you a hard time losing your unsaved data anyway (already updated to the latest software). This is why I give only 4 stars although I love it pretty much.
Overall:
I would give 5 stars to the keyboard, 4 stars to the mouse due to some lag and its accuracy. But I would rate the whole set at 4 stars because of the runtime error in Excel which shouldn't happen at all.

Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 710 Laser Review

(More customer reviews)I admit, I'm brutal on keyboards. I work long hours from home and type quite fast so a keyboard tends to wear out after a relatively short period of time due to the constant absue I inflict on it. Everyone always gets a kick out of my keyboards with the keys worn smooth and few if any letters left on them. So far this one has handled my abuse quite well. I am impressed.
Combined with the fact that I am female and don't have large hands, keyboard/mouse selection is more limited for me. What I mainly look for in a keyboard is size (not too small, not too large) and it must not have a huge mouse. Keyboards nowadays are getting larger and larger complete with software that bogs down and tries to run your computer. Plus, I can't stand a huge keyboard taking up my desk space. Also, in case you noticed, mice are getting funkier looking as ever lately. There is only so much that can be done for ergonomics...so now they are trying to go stylish too.
When I picked up this keyboard off the shelf to test (it was about the 30th model I tried) I was instantly in love with it. My hands fit perfectly on the keyboard with my palms resting just on the front edge. With an overall depth of 7.5 inches it didn't hog up my desk either. Slim-line design without being compact.
Within a few days of purchase and use I started messing around with the options it has. Wow! I'm sold. I would have paid double for this keyboard. I like being able to adjust my audio by simply pressing one of 3 audio buttons on the top front (lower, mute, higher) and the email button right below that opens my Outlook for me. The magnifying glass brings up a side window with Google. But it doesn't end there - on the far right of the keyboard are 5 keys which have been streamlined into the design so you barely notice they are there - all for music. With one touch - my music player opens. The other buttons are for shuffling, next, back, and play/pause. Sweet!
On the other side of the keyboard are 5 other buttons similar to those - to do with picture editing. I haven't played around with those yet..but am looking forward to. Also there are special function buttons to use...then again I don't like installing companies software on my computer so I haven't experimented with those yet either. Maybe in due time.
This last one may seem a bit silly...but it's a darn good idea! The most common keyboard shortcuts are printed on the SIDE of the keys. So for instance, the keyboard shortcut for REDO is CTRL+Y. On the CTRL key is a little diamond and on the side of the Y key is a diamond with the word REDO. So at a glance if you forget a shortcut...it's there for you. Smart idea.
As I have a laptop as my main computer for now...I use this keyboard as an add-on. It's overall size and design allows me to put it in my laptop backpack bag with all my other gear and travel as I wish with ease for the ultimate work-on-the-go experience. I have not had ANY connection issues with this set unlike some other brands I've tried including my Microsoft Bluetooth set (major $$$ and a big disaster).
The mouse - simple, but quite functional too. It doesn't look like anything special. But it works quite well. Not too much...not too little. The scroll wheel works fine and the mouse precision is excellent (what you would expect from a laser). I have not had any surface issues with this one yet - and I do not use a mouse pad.
My only complaint I've had with this set is so minor it's barely mentionable. They moved my END key. As I am used to typing without looking at the keyboard when I reach for the END key it's not there. :) I'm sure within another month or so I'll be used to it...just irritated me for the first few days.
I give this set 5 stars hands-down. If I see it on sale I will for sure buy another one - with 4 computers in our house they will be replaced by this model one by one!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this keyboard on Amazon about 2 months ago for my new HP computer. I loved it so much that I purchased another one for work.
After purchasing the 1st keyboard, for research purposes, I went into an office supply store and tried all of the keyboards to see if there was another one that I liked better. I tested about 20 keyboards and could not find one that I liked the feel of better (of course this is a personal preference). I purchased a second one of the same keyboard for the office.
I have had no connectivity issues with this keyboard or mouse.
One keyboard is being used in a business environment with WinXP. The other keyboard (the one I am currently typing on) is connected to my new Vista computer at home. I have had no trouble with either.
Hint: I have attached the wireless transmitter/receiver to the base of my monitor with Velcro. Wherever the monitor is I automatically get a strong signal from the keyboard and mouse.
The keyboard is usually about 12-18" from the transmitter. The mouse is usually about 24-36". I have never had signal problems with either keyboard.

Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser to replace my Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 (which I'd come to loathe). With the hardware, I'm very satisfied. The keyboard is a nice ergonomic version which I'd grown used to from my long-ago Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro. It's got a nice typing feel (not too hard, not too soft) and I've had no problems with it (the keyboard in the Microsoft Desktop 6000 dropped keystrokes). The only negatives I can come up with for the keyboard are that the space bar makes a bit of a clanking sound (which I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't read about it here) and the palm rest does show the location of your hands from the oil residue (trivial really). The mouse is very comfortable and I've had no problems with it at all.
Where I have had problems is with the Logitech Setpoint 3.3 software. I'm using Vista, so since it's so new, that might be the issue (though the Logitech forums indicate the XP version has similar problems). In my case, even though the software loaded without trouble, I sometimes couldn't open the Setpoint program. It would basically hang when I attempted it. I also was getting no mouse status from the Logitech icon (keyboard status, yes -- mouse status, no). The forums indicate there's also a problem with the Secure Connect hotkey of CTRL-SHIFT (it conflicts with quite a few important keystrokes in Vista and applications) and with multiple keystrokes generating spurious letters. Because Setpoint was hanging on my system, I just uninstalled it and am running on the native Vista drivers (again, without problem). Without Setpoint, I'm lacking some features. But, I rarely use those things, anyway.
So, overall, I give the hardware an Excellent rating of 5 stars out of 5. However, because of the problems with the Setpoint 3.3 software, I'm subtracting 1 star. Still, that leaves an overall Very Good rating of 4 stars out of 5. Recommended.

(More customer reviews)We use allot of computers in my business. I use the MS wireless (split key) natural keyboard and mouse for my personal use because I like the angle it places my arms at.
We just picked up a few of these 4000 units.
My employees are very pleased with them in every way! They also like the slight angle it places there
arms and have told me they don't get as tired typing anymore.
We like the rechargeable batteries in them! No more battery expences!! Or downtime trying to locate new cells. We located the transmitters in a location above and away from the users desktop units.
The signal is very strong and the mouse is very responsive.
We have 10 of these in our office now. None of them conflict with one another at all! They don't seem to wear out near as fast as the standard keyboard, and our employees like the fact that They can sit back and place them on their lap.
I like the mouse without the tail so I can reach over
Pick it up and use it without having the person get out of his or her chair to show them something.
The other user review that says they are having problems might not have a good FULLY charged set of batteries and may not have the transmitter located up and away from the keyboard and mouse.
We picked up ours for $26.99 with 11.99 shipping...
On a final note: This mouse is not like a 4 button tilt wheel mouse I.E. (The Explorer 2.0 intellimouse) so if you want that style with the side buttons for advance configurations, than this laser 4000 unit might not work for you...

(More customer reviews)The mouse functions perfectly, but the F keys (F1-F12) on the keyboard rarely work. I searched Logitech's troubleshooting forum and found that I am not the only one who has this problem with this model. Logitech suggested connecting the receiver to a different USB port, which worked twice for me, but has never helped since. Now the F keys do not work at all. This is terrible for me because I need the F keys for games. Also, I can no longer startup while holding F8 to bring up the startup menu and disable driver signature enforcement to make some programs work (such as PeerGuardian 2) with Vista 64-bit. Looking back, I would definitely buy a different mouse+keyboard combo.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 (PC & Mac) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a really good "basic" wireless keyboard and mouse set. The software installed just find and after that I plugged in the receiver and was ready to go. It was really snappy and responsive right out of the box. Sometimes people get issues because the battery is low to begin with (remember the battery has been sitting in the package since it was shipped to Amazon, Best Buy, Staples, etc.) Also the proximity of portable phones, other wireless devices, etc will sometimes mess with the signal.
I really like the keyboard. It has a soft feel and is rather quite comfortable. It's not like those old loud IMB clicky types. Depending on your preference you might find the keyboard "mushy" but I think it's just right. There's a few special function keys for e-mail, web homepage and volume controls. I can do without most of them except for the calculator quick launch button. Its great to just hit a button have the calculator popup. I think all keyboards should have this.
The mouse is good too. It's a basic optical mouse a two button one scroll wheel job. It's nothing fancy but then again I don't need a fancy mouse with 5 or 7 buttons. The scroll wheel is nice. It's a clicky one meaning you can scroll line-by-line. There are ridges on the wheel itself which I appreciate as I severely dislike the smooth wheels. The mouse is a bit heavy towards the back end. Probably because both the battery and transmitter are there but it only takes a few minutes to get used to.
There are two things that I don't like but they aren't deal breakers. The first is the rather large receiver. It's not a deal breaker but if you've got limited desktop space it's a pain for sure. The second is that the mouse and keyboard are always "on". As far as I can tell they don't auto-hibernate when not in use for a while or turn themselves off when the computer is shutdown. So in order to fully power them off you've got to take the battery out. I have owned the mouse that's included in the set separately and used it with my old computer. The battery (2 AAs) lasted for about 3 months. I'm sure if I pulled them out every time I shut the computer down it would have lasted for 6. But I'm lazy and had a bag full of AAs so what did I care?
This is a very good product for a decent price. I don't know what's up with the bad reviews they must have gotten a lemon or something because every MS mouse or keyboard I've used has been awesome. If fact the only bad keyboards and mice I've used have been non-MS ones. The Logitech mice are too large and expensive. Belkin keyboards are awful and anything made by Kensington is just atrocious. Overall, I really like this keyboard mouse set and if you can pick it up on the cheap it's a great product.

(More customer reviews)I first encountered this set at a local Staples store display. I tried the keys and the mouse, and after that I knew that I wanted one. The keyboard is very low profile, but not low enough to me too mushy. It has the solid tactile feedback typical of a Logitech set. I also love how quiet the keyboard and mouse were. On my two previous sets, one had a noisy keyboard and a quiet mouse, and the other had a quiet keyboard and a noisy mouse. On the MK710, both the keyboard and the mouse are wonderfully muted. The wrist pad on the keyboard is a very nice touch, although the point at which it is widest is a bit odd, because it leaves one wrist more slightly supported than the other. It still feels comfortable once you get used to it, but having both wrists supported equally would have been nice.
The keyboard has some nice function keys and a LCD display that shows the status of the battery, caps lock, num lock, and mute. The LCD is not backlit, so it can be difficult to see sometimes, however this is understandable to conserve battery life. It is still very small, however. There are not a lot of customizable keys on the keyboard, which is ok, but since the price is so high, I would expect to see more programmable functions to justify the sticker price. The keyboard comes with two sets of adjustable legs, but they are pretty thin and are not the sturdiest I have seen. Still they do provide two different heights for the keyboard.
The mouse is nice, although it is for right-handed people only. It has two side buttons near the top that default to the back and forward functions, and a third button placed oddly towards the bottom edge of the left side of the mouse. That is by default the application switcher button, which is useful, but in a very strange place. It takes a bit of a learning curve to press it reliably. The mouse tracks well and clicks very quietly, and is not too big. It has a metal scroll wheel that offers four way tilt scrolling and a neat feature called hyperscrolling. Basically, there is a button directly beneath the scroll wheel that you push to enable traditional "click" scrolling when you need precision or smooth hyperscrolling when you need speed. The mechanism is solid and works easily.
The only issue that I had with this device was the SetPoint software. The set can be used without installing drivers, however the customizable features of the set will only work with the SetPoint drivers. The drivers that come with the set are hopelessly out of date, especially if you are using Windows 7 64bit. Please do yourself a favor if you own this set and go straight to the Logitech website and download the latest drivers from there. Don't waste time installing the drivers from the CD, only to find they make some of your computer functions go haywire.
Other than that, this is another great desktop set from Logitech. One the correct drivers are installed, it works like a piece of cake. It is a little pricey, but has all the reliability and quality that one would expect from Logitech.

Logitech Wireless Combo Mk520 With Keyboard and Laser Mouse (920-002553) Review

(More customer reviews)The Logitech MK520 is a well featured, basic wireless keyboard/mouse combination. There are a few quirks with the keyboard that should be addressed and merit the loss of a star, as will be explained shortly.
PACKAGING/OVERALL EXTERIOR DESIGN: The package comes with a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, receiver, and female USB cord. I immediately impressed by the small size of the USB receiver; compared to my wireless Logitech G7 receiver, this thing is microscopic! The keyboard itself is black, with a clear transparent plastic frame overlaid on top with a slight bit of overhang. It's a nice clean design, and reminds me of some of the "floating glass" frames of certain Sony Bravia TV models. The transparent plastic also has a functional purpose, in addition to being aesthetically pleasing- it makes the keyboard spill resistant. The mouse is a pretty standard design, and fits my palm nicely and comfortably. Nothing extraordinary about the mouse.
FUNCTIONAL USAGE: As soon as I plugged the receiver into the USB jack, Windows XP automatically installed the drivers and I was up and running in a few seconds. The keyboard types smoothly, and there's very little clicking to be heard. The keys are comfortable to depress, and the built in wrist rest makes typing over long durations quite comfortable. I tested the wireless keyboard and mouse about 10 feet away from the receiver without problems. Curious, I decided to try the combination in a gaming situation, where I output Bad Company 2 from my PC to 42" TV, and played on my couch using the wireless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard worked well, but the mouse is clearly not a gaming mouse. There was considerable lag, and movements were imprecise. So the mouse is not optimized for gaming!
I then plugged in my Logitech G7 Wireless mouse, and used it in tandem with the wireless MK520 keyboard. I was concerned that since the G7 was also operating at 2.4 GHz, there might be interference between the 2 devices. Fortunately, my concerns were premature, and the two devices worked beautifully together!
KEYBOARD THOUGHTS: The keyboard comes with 12 special Function keys which are shortcut keys to start various programs. Some include bringing up web browsers, opening My Computer, defaulting to the desktop view, etc.. I found only a few of these buttons to be useful, e.g. the open web browser key (Fn+F1). However, the web browser shortcut key closes all other web browsers (even if you're using Firefox), which is rather annoying. I would've preferred that it open a new window or tab, rather than close all existing windows. Pressing the shortcut for the media players brought up Winamp for me; the problem with these shortcut keys is that there are no provisions to allow the user to re-program the corresponding applications for personal customization. I would've liked to see an ability to change the default media player from Winamp to my media player of choice, e.g. Media Player Classic. Similarly, I would've liked to see an ability to change the web browser so that existing windows are not closed.
There is a shortcut key to bring up the Windows Calculator, which I think is a brilliant shortcut key. I actually use the built-in calculator quite frequently, and the shortcut key is conveniently placed.
**UPDATE**: The keyboard offers limited personal customization by downloading the latest Setpoint software drivers from Logitech's website. I would've preferred if the drivers had been incorporated into the package to begin with onto a CD, or some explanation given in the manual however.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Lastly, the MK520 claims a remarkable miserly battery life of 3 years for the keyboard, and 1 year for the mouse. Both the keyboard and mouse automatically go to sleep after a period of no usage, and both have on/off switches, a thoughtful touch. It's quite remarkable considering that the keyboard only uses 2 AA batteries, and the mouse 1 AA battery (note: batteries are already provided by Logitech in the package).
In conclusion, it's a very good basic wireless keyboard/mouse combo that could use some reprogramming to address the shortcut keys.
