Targus AKM11US 2.4 GHz Wireless Multimedia Keyboard and Optical Mouse Set Review

Targus AKM11US 2.4 GHz Wireless Multimedia Keyboard and Optical Mouse Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i just bought a desktop and wanted to get a wireless keyboard to go along with it. every keyboard i looked at from microsoft or any other company seemed to have the same complaints...range. i briefly toyed with going back to a wired keyboard, then i found this one. i wasn't expecting much for the price, but was pleasantly surprised. the keyboard is very comfortable (kind of has the feel of a laptop when you type). i didn't have any of the problems one of the other reviewers reported with certain buttons not being responsive at all. my main concern as to range was definitely answered and then some. the keyboard and mouse only require 2 AAA batteries each so it's not expensive to keep it powered. the mouse is definitely not the greatest but is good enough for everyday use (outside of gaming...i tried out the combo playing crysis). one little bonus i found was that the keyboard and mouse worked with my mac book pro without any issues or need to install any drivers (i was curious).
overall i found this product very much worth the money. the mouse leaves something to be desired, but the keyboard is solid, and for the money i don't know that you'll find anything better.

Logitech Cordless LX300 Desktop Express Review

Logitech Cordless LX300 Desktop Express
Average Reviews:

I just wanted to comment on what the first reviewer said. He complained that there were no caps lock LEDs on the keyboard. If you think about it, it would be very stupid to put these lights on a wireless keyboard. Because they are wireless, they get their power from batteries. If you always have num lock or caps lock on, then you would drain the batteries down much quicker than normal. Just to put it in perspective. I have been using the Logitech cordless desktop keyboard for two years without ever changing the batteries. This is precisely because they don't waste power on unnecessary LEDs. Also, if you need to see these LEDs, the Logitech drivers come with icons that sit in your system tray to indicate when caps lock and num lock are on.

I have plugged in the wireless mouse/keyboard signal reciever, but it must not be plug and play capable, because it doesn't work. It could also be DOA, but at this point I am unsure. I will be looking in to it and seeing if I can find a driver or something to get it working. note: I did try pusing the connect button on the mouse/keyboard... still nothing. Prompt shipping was a plus. overall... assuming it works, it was a great shopping experience... if not, hopefully I can return the product.

The image shown is that of the HP Wireless Elite but the product shipped is not the Elite and looks nothing like the image advertised. Contacted the seller to return the item and they did not provide me enough time to get this product back to them.
I would not recommend buying this item from this seller. You will not get what you see and returning is not easy.

iConcepts Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Combo USB (62150N) Review

iConcepts Wireless Optical Mouse and Keyboard Combo USB (62150N)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros
-Price is nearly as as good as it gets.
-it does work, sort of.
-plug and play, even with Linux.
-Some of the Special keys actually work with Linux
Cons
-Cheaply made (Most cheaply made mouse and keyboard I have ever used)
-keys feel "soft"
-backspace key is very small
-The Mouse will not work if further than 1.5' away from receiver.
-Lag sometimes in communication between mouse and keyboard and computer.
-Ink on keys poorly done, and hard to see.
-Sounds terrible in use, like a loose spring rattling around in a ball point pen.
-Description says 4 AA batteries required, you need two AAA and two AA.Overall, you will likely be happier with a used mouse/keyboard for the same price, or better yet, spend a little more cash up front, and get a decent product.

Logitech 920-001200 Desktop EX100 w/ Speakers S150 Review

Logitech 920-001200 Desktop EX100 w/ Speakers S150
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recieved this combo within the specified shipping time (good start). I've had other wireless keyboards that just did not measure up. So I was skeptical about this one but for the price I figured it was a good deal. When I opened the box I noticed that there was no cd-rom (drivers) and I thought this was not good, since my last few wireless keyboards required driver to be loaded prior to setup. I looked all thru-out the box and no software. I was thinking this may not work but I decided to try anyway. The set up was very easy (easier than my last wireless setup, more good marks) it only had one usb cable that connected both the keyboard & the optical mouse. I turned on my pc and I was surprised that the keyboard and mouse worked like a champ straight out of the box (again more high marks). No software to install and set up was a breeze. The speakers that came with this combo were also a nice touch, very sleek and matched the keyboard nicely. Sound quality for their size is not bad. I needed the wireless feature because I wanted to clean up the clutter of all the "speghetti" wires. I can't say at what range the wireless feature stops working because I am not using this item 20-50 feet away from my system (like some do and then complain that it doesn't work). I will say that for every day use without the mess of cables this is a great keyboard combo. I will move the keyboard/mouse around my pc area but always within 4-6 feet away. Battery life seems ok I've only had this a couple of days but the keyboard & mouse are still working fine. If the batteries drain often then there's a fix for this... rechargable batteries. Problem fixed. Logitech got it right, I am even thinking about getting another one for the pc in the family room. I am convinced that Logitech makes the best quality keyboards/mouse on the market. Overall this has been the best quality, wireless combo that I have setup/owned. If your looking for a good deal on a wireless combo that works out of the box look no further, this is it.

ASUS Wireless Eee Keyboard and Mouse Set - Black Review

ASUS Wireless Eee Keyboard and Mouse Set - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently bought a large monitor to use in lieu of my laptop LCD screen, and needed a keyboard/mouse to complete my set up. I was looking for something that was form-factor, would look pretty on my desk, was wireless, simple, and works well. I looked at a number of different keyboards (HP elite, microsoft arc, rocketfish, adesso, logitech), and this was the only one that seemed to fit all of my qualifications. The HP, rocketfish, adesso, logitech ones had too much going on (numeric keypad, shortcut keys, etc - who needs em?), and the MS arc one had a strange cursor set up that i knew I would find irritating.
Pros:
- Small (thin, light)
- Easy set up (put in batteries, plugged in dongle, win7 did the rest!)
- Attractive (has 'chiclet' style keys and a piano black finish to the rest of the keyboard/mouse)
- Simple (no 'unnecessary' features)
Cons:
- Spacebar sometimes unresponsive (same issue I have with my Asus laptop - even as I'm writing this review I'm finding that although I'm hitting the spacebar, it doesn't always register unless I hit it pretty forcefully)
- No Bluetooth (bluetooth would be easier since no additional dongle or anything would be necessary for me)
- USB Dongle a bit large (I have another wireless mouse from MS with a dongle roughly an inch long, whereas this one is the size of your typical USB flash drive)
- No 'on/off' button (when not in use, I'm not sure whether it's eating up the battery or goes on some kind of standby. An on-off switch would make it easier to know and save battery power)
- Lack of internal 'storage area' for USB dongle (again, my MS wireless mouse has a little place on it to store the dongle when not in use, so you don't have to worry about losing it. This product would be well-served by a similar feature)
- Volume controls(you can control volume by pressing Fn+F10/11/12, however, dedicated volume control buttons would be easier)
-----
Update: I found a 'fix' for the spacebar issue on this forum: [...]. I tried it out (using 5-6 layers of tiny square cut-outs of tape instead of the epoxy glue) and the spacebar now works perfectly!!

Inland Pro Wireless 2.4GHz Optical Mice Keyboard Combo Set Review

Inland Pro Wireless 2.4GHz Optical Mice Keyboard Combo Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been on the lookout for a decent wireless keyboard/mouse combo with reasonable range for a very long time. I tried couple of Microsoft 2.4Ghz before and a Logiech laser wireless keyboard/mouse combo as well. None of them could give me a decent 5 meter range for the keyboard. I was at Micro center and picked this up today. Install was a snap and the keyboard/mouse started working right-a-way from the desired range (my couch to TV) without any noticeable lag. I brought the pro set for about 30 dollars (which has some volume control keys etc on the keyboard) -but I think even the regular 2.4Ghz will work (which is 20 bucks). I will update my review once I see this work consistently for more than 2 weeks - but for now it seems to me that the price/performance can't be beat!.

Logitech S520 Cordless Desktop Keyboard and Laser Mouse (Black/Grey) Review

Logitech S520 Cordless Desktop Keyboard and Laser Mouse (Black/Grey)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
EDIT #3 8/31/09 - I'm having the unresponsive keys problem as well. With me it's mainly the [, ], o, and m keys. It has gotten worse over the last couple months, where I'll have to press each key at least two to three times (sometimes more) to get them to work. The battery light randomly flashes on and off every now and then as well.
I'll be replacing this keyboard as soon as I can afford to. This is the first time I've had a bad exeperience with Logitech, so I may give them another try. Granted, it won't be this model.
---------
I was in need of a new keyboard because my old cordless one was about 3 or so year old and starting to give up the ghost. After looking over all the options, I chose this set and I couldn't be happier.
The keys are low-set and exceptionally quiet. The only light on the keyboard itself is one that lights up when your batteries need changed (a feature I really like). One of my biggest complaints about my old keyboard was that it had no lights to let you know whether or not the Num or Caps lock keys were on. While there isn't any on this one either, the USB receiver does. There are bright LED lights for both Caps and Num, so you always know whether one or the other is on.
The Fn key is very handy as well, as it prevents the keyboard from looking cluttered with extra buttons. You simply press it and one of the F-keys to open up your word processor, spreadsheet, email, etc. The only extra keys are 9 media keys at the bottom, but they don't make it look cluttered at all. From left to right, there's three zoom buttons (100%, Zoom out, Zoom in), three volume buttons (mute, down, up) and three media keys (previous track, play/pause, next track). Once I installed the software, they worked immediately without having to mess with settings for which media player I use. I know they work for both WinAmp and Windows Media Player, but not for VLC.
The keyboard itself is very sturdy. I don't have a desk, so my keyboard either sits on my bed or in my lap. Even in my lap, it feels solid and I don't feel like it's going to keep falling out of it.
The included mouse is great as well. Full scrolling wheel (with available side-scrolling). And even an on/off button on the bottom of it to help conserve batteries. Like the keyboard, it also has an LED light on it that will alert you when the batteries are low.
I haven't owned this keyboard long enough to judge its boast on battery life, but considering I had to change the batteries out of my old mouse every two weeks or so, I'm hoping this one is better. At least this mouse will alert me when I do need to change them, unlike my old one which would spontaneously die.
All in all, a very good keyboard for the money. Very highly recommended.
Edit 2/16/09 - I just had to change the batteries in the mouse for the first time. It was no eight months, but considering that I use my computer heavily, I am still very pleased. I received both a warning icon in my system tray (which I noticed first) and then when I took my hand off the mouse there's a very bright red LED that slowly flashes to let you know it's low.
I used to turn the mouse off every time I shut the computer down, but I've forgotten to for the past month or so. If I had remembered, it might have added further battery time. But 4 months compared to only a few weeks tops with my old mouse is still a fantastic improvement.
Edit #2 3/24/09 - Not two days after receiving the notice about my mouse batteries being critical, my keyboard did the same. This time, I decided to wait and see exactly how long it took the keyboard to die completely before having to change the batteries. For a full day and a half my computer kept telling me the batteries were critical, but then something strange happened. The keyboard froze up for about three seconds and then the warning went away. I checked it and it said the batteries were suddenly good again.
It stayed that way until around two days ago (3/22/09) before it started to do the same thing, but at a more rapid pace. It would say the batteries were critical and then switch back to good status multiple times a day, finally to the point I got annoyed with it and changed them today.
So it appears the battery indicator is about a month off for the keyboard. I may have thrown out good batteries from the mouse because of this exceptionally early warning.
Still a nice keyboard, but the battery life warning needs worked on.

2.4GHz RF Wireless Keyboard with Smart Touchpad Mouse for MCE Media Center Edition Review

2.4GHz RF Wireless Keyboard with Smart Touchpad Mouse for MCE Media Center Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a purchase made two weeks ago now that I can't decide if I regret or not. The keyboard does work and works well a good range (10 feet room is not big enough to try farther) from the computer. The media keys work very well, the install was simple and efficient, and the touch pad calculator is bar none awesome.
However, not all the keys work consistently, I have a Logitech S 510 wireless desktop that I have had for two years and it never drops keys as far as I can tell. I do write quite a lot, thousands of pages a year not joking, so I am picky about my key board. I would never hold this item up to the same standard however dropping approximately one key in ten is not acceptable for typing more than a search into Google. There are days that the keyboard works better than others as well, which I just can't figure out.
I have no idea how fast it eats batteries, it still seems to work with the ones it came with two weeks later. Finding "home" on the key board is also rather difficult, for touch type'ers out there, as the razed points on the keys are rather weak all the keys feel the same. However in defense of this key board it is nice and compact feels sturdy and pushes keys together to make the whole contraption more ergonomic.
It also goes to sleep, wakes up with Esc key, which takes getting used to but might be saving batteries which I like.
Final verdict touch pad great, media buttons awesome, calculator key pad absolutely ingenious, and keyboard for "typing" sucks!

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 Keyboard and Mouse Combo Review

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 Keyboard and Mouse Combo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is for the keyboard only, as I use a different mouse than the one that came with the set.
A keyboard is a keyboard. The distance between keys isn't a huge deal, the size of the keys is what allows you to tell the difference. While the F-keys are ubiquitous, there is no issue with pressing the wrong key as long as you are remotely familiar with the keyboard layout. The only real issue that I have with the keyboard is that the top row of keys is set lower than the rest of the keys, which makes it difficult to find the buttons that you want at times. Keys type quietly and have a soft feel to them that is pleasant to work with. No real complaints about this keyboard.

Logitech Wireless Desktop MK320 with Keyboard and Mouse Review

Logitech Wireless Desktop MK320 with Keyboard and Mouse
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Perplexed. A keyboard and mouse combo designed for laptop, NOT the desktop. I did a double-take when I received this Logitech MK320 review unit and saw that Logitech's target market for this product is for the laptops/notebooks/netbooks. I recently purchased the ASUS U43JC-X1 14-Inch Bamboo Laptop (10 Hours of Battery Life), so was searching for a wireless mouse. I knew I would get a lot of use out of the mouse but questioned whether the keyboard would be of any use. After using it for a few weeks, I must say that I'm pleasantly surprised!
Before getting to the review, I should note an error on Amazon's product page (that is correct in Logitech's documentation). The keyboard utilizes (2) AAA batteries while the mouse uses (1) AA battery. Logitech includes pre-installed alkaline batteries for both units.SETUP:
Setting up the keyboard/mouse combo was a breeze. Taking the devices out of the box took more time! Running Win7, I just plugged in the receiver and the system instantly recognized both devices. Every time I start the computer and plug the receiver back in, there is absolutely no noticeable lag time for the keyboard/mouse to start working. This was certainly not the case with the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 Mac/Windows, where it took a few seconds before I could begin using it.KEYBOARD:
The keyboard has all your standard keys with several extra shortcut keys. Shortcut keys include Window Toggle (allows you to toggle between open applications), E-mail, Home Page, Music/Media, Show/Hide Desktop, Music Shortcuts (Back, Play/Pause, Next), Volume (Mute, Increase/Decrease), Calculator, and an extra backspace above the number pad. There are also a few special function keys such as turning off the computer, locking the computer, and other functions that I have yet to figure out.
The keyboard is also advertised as spill-resistant, though I hope I won't need to test that feature.MOUSE:
The mouse is about the size of most notebook mice. It has a left and right button with the scroll button that also doubles as the middle button when clicked. Though I am right handed, it feels comfortable enough using it with my left or right hand. The battery indicator light is situated just below the scroll wheel between the left/right buttons. The receiver snaps onto the bottom of the mouse just above the ON/OFF switch. I pack and unpack my laptop and mouse at least twice a day and the receiver has yet to come loose. The bottom of the mouse also has a battery cover release button.
The one thing lacking, more common with desktop mice than notebook, are page front/back buttons.BATTERY LIFE:
I've only used the wireleess keyboard/mouse combo for about 3 weeks now so cannot attest to the advertised 15 months of keyboard battery life or the 5 months for the mouse. However, as I am a heavy user, it has worked very well thus far. There is a battery life indicator on the mouse, which has yet to turn on, and none for the keyboard. For the aforementioned Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 mouse, I would be on my second set of batteries by now.HOW I USE IT:
As I noted above, I wasn't sure if I would get much use out of the keyboard. My new laptop has Intel's new Wireless Display (WiDi) technology and HDMI, so I have been using it to watch videos on my TV. While my laptop sits on my desk, I'm able to control it from my couch.
PROS:
- Excellent battery life
- Convenient shortcuts
- Receiver snaps into the bottom of the mouse
- Spill resistant keyboard
- Mouse battery cover is very secure. Not prone to pop off unless you press the battery cover release button
- Receiver snaps on securely to the bottom of the mouse
CONS:
- Included batteries aren't rechargeable
- No battery indicator on the keyboard
- Mouse does not have forward/back buttonsCONCLUSION:
Though this wireless keyboard/mouse combo is targeted for laptop users, it should serve desktop users just as well. At a relatively inexpensive price, this combo delivers excellent battery life, great performance and convenience, and good value. I would recommend this to anyone, even for those that are just looking for a mouse as the keyboard adds considerable convenience!
EDIT (9/19/10) - After about one month of daily usage, the mouse battery just died. Not bad I'd say, but far from the advertised 5 months. I'll try with some decent rechargeable batteries and report back!
