(More customer reviews)I received this for Christmas and was initially so excited! I have a MacBook Pro, but really miss my PC number pad on the right side for spreadsheets AND I wanted a better place to dock my iPhone than a USB cord flopping around and my phone taking up desk space/getting buried under papers.
Nevertheless, I returned this. Here's why:
I loved just about everything about this keyboard EXCEPT the number key pad! The regular keys had a great feel - much like the MacBook Pro's keys. But the number keys are constructed *completely differently.* It is hard to tell from the picture, but they are thinner, and don't sit up as high as the other keys. There is no space between the keys like the letter keys, and (as a result??), they are EXTREMELY hard to press! For someone who types formally, but does a one-finger peck on a calculator/number pad, this was impossible! I would get four out of five digits, etc., pressing at a normal firmness relative to a standard keyboard key. What an ABSURD design flaw!!
That said, it looks so cool, the docking station is really ideal, and the function keys, etc., were going to be a real treat. So I gave it two stars for all the positives, but the number pad was a deal breaker.
Positives:
--Appearance
--Position/appearance/angle of iPhone/iPod docking station
--Main keyboard was a pleasure to use.
--Cool function/volume/etc. keys along the top.
Negatives:
--The number pad is unusable. Why on earth would they use a completely different key type/structure for the number pad than they did on the main keyboard? I like that is is separated, and the silver color is nice, but it DOESN'T WORK.
--The cover on the docking station is a little flimsy. It is easy to open, but unintuitive to close. As I wrangled with it, I feared I would break it. I would have had it open most of the time, so I didn't care much about this, but it is an issue.
--When you choose an insert for your particular iPod/iPhone, MAKE SURE you pick the right one, because I didn't, and it is very difficult with the angle of the sliding dock cover to remove the insert. Also, fwiiw, re. iPhone: I use the Digital Lifestyles Outfitters Jam Jacket with 3 Surface Shields for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black) on my 3GS, and with it on, the phone only docked with NO insert. So check this with your particular cover before you install an insert, needless to say.
--The USB cord (for this price, I'd expect wireless).
