(More customer reviews)Within a week of purchasing the similar Logitech V200 cordless mouse, the company announces the V270, much to my chagrin. Finally, a Bluetooth mouse was released that has all of the qualities I desire:
- Made by one of the "big three" mouse manufacturers (Microsoft, Logitech, Kensington);
- Has more than one button and a scroll wheel (sorry Apple!);
- Under $50.00;
- Does not require purchasing a hefty charging stand/receiver;
- Works natively with Mac OS X's Bluetooth drivers.
As the title of this review states, the packaging does call out the fact that the mouse works well with PowerBooks. Don't own a PowerBook? The mouse works with any Bluetooth-enabled Macintosh computer running 10.2.8 or higher, or any Windows 2000/XP machine with a Broadcom/Widcomm Bluetooth chipset. Aesthetically, the mouse is just a slight shade of silver darker than that of the aluminum PowerBooks. (A charcoal-colored version of the V270 is also available.) Including a neoprene carrying pouch that zippers shut is a nice touch on Logitech's part, considering the relative cost of the mouse itself.
As the V270 works natively with Mac OS X's Bluetooth drivers, I was up and running within minutes. The mouse is as responsive as you'd expect from any average cordless mouse during normal use. Since the mouse sends its signal in pulses (compared to traditional RF cordless mice whose signals are constant, even when immobile), there is a slight lag (less than a second) when first moving the mouse after a period of inactivity. After that initial movement, any subsquent hand gestures are met with an immediate response. Although it may sound annoying, this behavior is a good thing, as it helps improve overall battery life.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of all (for me) is the reclamation of a USB port that was previously occupied by the V200's USB dongle.
Definitely recommended.
