(More customer reviews)This is a wonderfully-responsive, optical-based Bluetooth notebook mouse that pairs without any fuss and doesn't require device drivers or special software. But, its smooth plastic belly feels cheap and its limited features make it seem toy-like compared to the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 which features far better ergonomics, a fantastic smooth-scrolling, two-way scrollwheel, laser-tracking, and lots of extra buttons (and a laser-pointer!).
I have used both mice with both Windows and Mac OS X, and the Microsoft WNPM 8000 is the clear winner if you are a Windows user. On the Mac, the Razer is the winner by a hair: the Microsoft places highly for its ergonomics and laser tracking (the extra buttons aren't usable on Mac OS X except with third-party drivers), and the Razer wins for its reliability and compatibility with Mac OS X.
I knew I had a huge winner with the Microsoft WNPM 8000, so why did I buy the Razer? Because: the Microsoft has some serious tracking problems when used with Mac OS X. I'm not sure what causes this, especially since I was using Microsoft's Intellipoint software for the Mac, but other Amazon reviewers have reported the same problem. It got so bad that I simply had to buy a replacement and assigned the Microsoft to my Windows machine permanently.
Of all the Bluetooth notebook mice out there for Mac OS X, the Razer Pro|Click Mobile Mouse featured the best technology by far and was the only one to make the claim of not requiring any additional drivers or software. (It doesn't even ship with a device driver CD.) It has been permanently assigned to my Mac for its smooth tracking and integration with Mac OS X. I like the heft given the Razer by its two AA batteries, and the very high 1200dpi resolution is phenomenal. Tracking was consistent on surfaces that other optical mice have had trouble on, and the mouse picks up its pairing many times more quickly than the Microsoft WNPM 8000 when the Mac or mouse is first turned on or when the Mac comes out of sleep.
If the Razer were upgraded to laser tracking and featured two-way scrolling with lighter detents, it would be the perfect notebook mouse for both Windows and Mac OS X. Until then, it might only be the perfect notebook mouse for only Mac OS X.
