I am loving this thing. I looked at wireless keyboards, the lenovo thing, trackballs and air mice (mouses?) and they all seemed to have some problems, plus they were more than I was looking for. Essentially I just wanted some kind of handheld wireless mouse. If I needed to type anything occasionally (like a URL) I was just going to use the Windows onscreen keyboard. I pretty much only use netflix, dvd's, iTunes, and Pandora on the HTPC.
Well, this thing works, and it comes with a keyboard too. And a backlight (orange...blue would've been nice, but it works just as well). It's accurate, the wireless connection hasn't given any trouble yet, the battery has lasted over a week so far, and I don't have to deal with a large clunky keyboard. Once the device is charged, it works as soon as the transmitter is plugged in (no driver to install). No connection problems 20 ft from the transmitter. It charges via a mini usb connection, comes with a 3ft charging USB cable, and does work while charging if needed. It doesn't work if using only the USB cable (transmitter unplugged), but it's really meant to be a wireless device, so that's ok. Haven't noticed any interference with WiFi.
I'm really happy with it only because it's just what I needed, but it's not a perfect product. It's nice and thin, but that also means it's not as sturdy as a remote control. It looks like I could throw it around on the coffee table a bit, but I'm not sure it could handle a drop on a hard floor. It's not completely cheaply built, but not really the business presentation quality level it seems they were shooting for (from reading the manual). The keyboard feels cheap but the keys work crisply and it appears like it might even last a year, maybe two. The touchpad is just a slightly less accurate than a laptop touchpad, but there's no annoying delay like some wireless mice. There's no Alt key, which means Alt-tab to switch windows is not possible. That's a real bummer for me but maybe not for everyone. There are no function keys, which I don't miss.
I would've preferred if it used AAA batteries instead of the internal lithium battery because batteries do degrade. I opened up the case and the battery is soldered, so not easy to change even if I could find an exact replacement. Hopefully it lasts a couple of years.
Although it seems to me this should be a product category of its own with at least some competition, this thing is the only one I've found of its kind. It changed the way I use the HTPC. I can be having dinner, or reading a book, and thumbs down that Pandora song anytime, browse around netflix for a while, or just select a new CD in iTunes. A remote control really meant for a computer.
